Patented in the German Empire on February 12, 1881.

The storm hook 1 has a slot α along its length with a detent b and an ear c; at the rear end there is an approach d, which serves as a barrel. The rivet 2 around which the spiral 3 is wound is inserted through this barrel. The lower part (head) of the rivet fits exactly into the inner fold of the barrel and in this way prevents the spiral from popping out.

The upper part of the rivet is square, fits exactly into the likewise square opening of the wall plate eyelet and thereby causes the whole rivet to stand firmly. The spiral 3 goes with one end at e through the round pin of the rivet 2 and at f through a small hole in the barrel, which causes the tension of the rivet.
