Description
Pressure sensitive tape or sheet. The invention relates to print-sensitive adhesive sheets or tapes on which graphic patterns can be printed, in particular stretchable sheets or tapes which can be printed on without being deformed.
According to the invention, a multi-layer sheet is proposed which (1) consists of a thin, flexible, stretchable, light-resistant, weather-resistant underlay film that is resistant to rough treatment and that can be stretched to an extent of at least about 10 96 when pulled by hand, ( 2) an adhesive layer, and (3) a non-stretchable, flexible, temporary cover sheet; releasably attached wherein the glebenittelschicht located between the film and the cover film, namely the film firmly, to the cover sheet; wherein the film can be printed on its exposed surface without deforming; and wherein the film can be applied even to surfaces with complicated curvature by simply rolling it on by hand when it is peeled off the cover sheet.

'Die folgenden Beispiele erläutern die Erfindung. Beispiel
The resulting polyvinyl chloride film was then cooled and peeled off from the support sheet. It had a thickness of 0.0508 mm, a tensile strength of 1.075 kg / cm and an elongation at break of 2096.
An adhesive containing a copolymer of fusel oil acrylate and acrylic acid in a weight ratio of 90:10 with an application viscosity of about 2500 Cp was then coated to a moist thickness of 0.305 mm on a non-stretchable, flexible, temporary cover sheet in the form of a polyethylene Paper applied by knife application and then dried in a multi-stage oven for 2 minutes at 660C and one minute at 820C. The previously produced polyvinyl chloride film was then applied to the adhesive coating in an overlay arrangement as a film underlay with contact pressure. The production of the laminate was carried out at room temperature: a label was then by the usual screening process on the exposed surface of the base film printed. Due to the adhesive force of the film base to the non-stretchable Polyäthylendeckblatt by means of the adhesive layer of the printing operation in a simple and conventional manner could be carried out without the stretchable per se base film was deformed. The lined printed film was then wound around itself in roll form for storage.
Should be as the film applied to a surface, it was easily peeled off from the temporary coversheet from polyäthylenbehandeltem paper, the adhesive layer on the film base on which it was tied remained. In this case the film was applied to a cleaned aluminum surface of intricate curvature similar to that of an aircraft tail section with the normally tacky and pressure sensitive adhesive in contact with the aluminum surface. The extensibility (about 2096 when pulled by hand) allowed the film to be easily applied over and conformed to the complex surface arrangement. The application processes were simple and no special or one-off equipment or materials were required. The film was merely pressed or rolled onto the surface in the appropriate position, in such a way as to avoid air pockets under the film. Within a few seconds or minutes of applying the film to the clean aluminum surface, it was virtually impossible to remove the film from the surface in any way without tearing and destroying the film. The adhesion of the film to the metal appeared to increase over the first few hours. The aging properties of the coated film were excellent, and neither waste nor build a deterioration of the film or adhesive binding was observed after the film had been exposed to more than two years in Texas to the weather outdoors.
Although the layering of the film substrate onto the adhesive in Example 1 was carried out at room temperature, it may be desirable to carry out this process at a somewhat elevated temperature , for example at 66 to 910.degree. This is particularly desirable when residual soap or similar residual galander or dispersant remains in the film base. The bond strength between the substrate and the adhesive layer, which can be reduced due to these residual agents, is improved if the laminate production is carried out at higher temperatures.
Also other base films than the polyvinyl chloride film of Example 1 can be used as long as they are pliable, resistant to rough treatment, are weatherproof, lightfast and stretchable.
Backing films thinner or thicker than the 0.0508 mm thick film of Example 1 can also be used. If extremely thin backing films are used which, due to their thinness and the resulting slackness, make the decorative film difficult to handle and apply, it may be desirable or necessary to have a supportive support in contact with the exposed surface of the backing during application of the Apply films to surfaces.
This way the film is supported even when it is in contact backing with the adhesive layer has been removed.
The polyethylene coating of the paper cover sheet used in Example 1 can be replaced by coatings or treatments with other high molecular weight waxy materials or other suitable materials, either in film form or as a surface coating on paper or other supporting sheeting. Other suitable coating materials which serve as effective underlays or low tack coatings are known. Examples 2 to 8 show other pressure-sensitive adhesives which are useful for the purposes of the invention. Example 2 285 parts by weight of isoamyl acrylate monomer were copolymerized with 15 parts of acrylic acid in solution in 700 parts of ethyl acetate solvent using 2 parts of benzoyl peroxide as a catalyst. The solution was held at 60 ° C for 5 hours until polymerization was largely complete and then at about 70 ° C for one hour to obtain a viscous solution with about 30% nonvolatiles. It has been diluted with heptane to a non-volatile content of 20-2596.
Example 3 The acrylate ester of the commercially available fusel oil was copolymerized with acrylic acid in the ratio 95: 5 according to the method of Example 2.
Bestens 4 Kohlenstoffatome
enthält.
