New York, London, Sydney 1964, S. 10).It is already known from German patent specification 857 948, polycarbonates with hydroxyl end groups to manufacture. For this purpose, the bischlorocarbonic acid esters of aliphatic diols with aliphatic Diols implemented. Because of the inertia of aliphatic bischlorocarbonic acid esters, this must Conversion take place at elevated temperatures. That leads to side reactions in which by splitting off of carbon dioxide from the chlorocarbonic acid esters or by substituting the hydroxyl groups chloroalkyl compounds are formed by the hydrogen chloride present in the reaction mixture. These chlorine-containing products can, due to the lack of hydroxyl end groups, during polycondensation or polyadditions act as chain terminators and the production of high molecular weight polycarbonates or prevent the production of long-chain polyurethanes by reacting them with diisocyanates (H. Schnell, Chemistry and Physics of Polycarbonates, Interscience Publishers, New York, London, Sydney 1964, p. 10).
In order to prevent the formation of chloroalkyl end groups, the cited patent is used the implementation of the aliphatic bischlorocarbonic acid esters with the aliphatic diols reduced pressure. In this way, the hydrogen chloride formed should be removed immediately from the reaction medium. By this measure lets but only avoid the formation of chloroalkyl from hydroxyl groups and hydrogen chloride, the formation of chloroalkyl Due to the splitting off of carbon dioxide from the chlorocarbonic acid esters, the negative pressure rather promoted. In fact, a comparative experiment shows that in the reaction of 1,4-bis (hydroxymethyl) - cyclohexane - bischlorocarbonate) with 1,4 - bis - (hydroxymethyl) - cyclohexane in a water jet vacuum a product resulted containing 3% chlorine.
Another disadvantage of this process is that the bischlorocarbonates used in one separate process step must be produced, for. B. from phosgene and aliphatic diols after German interpretative document 1 187 608.
No. 3,046,255 describes the production of polycarbonates by interfacial polycondensation described by bischlorocarbonates or phosgene with diols. As hydrogen chloride acceptors Aqueous solutions or suspensions of inorganic alkaline substances are used. In this process, the released hydrogen chloride is converted into the chlorides of alkalis or Alkaline earths transferred and thus withdrawn from any further technical use. The seizure big Quantities of alkaline chloride solutions represent a further burden on this condensation process.
-hydroxid)-Alkalichlorid-Gemische belastet. From US Pat. No. 2 999 844, it is known that the polycondensation of bischlorocarbonates (or of the intermediates formed from phosgene and diols) with diols in inert organic Carry out solvents such as toluene or xylene. As hydrogen chloride acceptors in this Solvents' alkali hydroxides or carbonates suspended. The water that forms is through Azeotropic distillation removed from the reaction mixture. The resulting from this procedure Products are colored yellow-brown, which severely limits their uses. Besides that is also this process with the accumulation of large amounts of alkali carbonate (or hydroxide) -alkali chloride mixtures burdened.
The invention is based on the object, in a one-step process, chlorine-free, colorless, carbonate groups containing dihydroxy compounds of the above general formula without the to convert released hydrogen chloride into chlorides.
According to the invention, this object is achieved by using 1,4-bis (hydroxymethyl) cyclohexane and phosgene in molar ratios of 1: 0.5 to 1: 0.9 in the presence of an inert solvent Reacts at atmospheric pressure.
l,4-Bis-(hydroxymethyl)-cyclohexan kann in seiner trans- oder cis-Form oder als Gemisch beider Formen eingesetzt werden.1,4-Bis (hydroxymethyl) cyclohexane can be in its trans or cis form or as a mixture of both forms can be used.
Suitable inert solvents are preferably those whose boiling point is normal pressure between 70 and 140 ° C, e.g. B. benzene, toluene or xylene.
Wählt man z. The setting of η within the specified limits is carried out in a simple manner by varying the molar ratio of the reactants used. If you choose z. B. a molar ratio of 1,4-bis (hydroxymethyl) cyclohexane to phosgene of 1: 0.5 results from the following equation (in which R denotes the 1,4-dimethylene cyclohexane radical)
2HO — R— OH + ICOCl2
► HO-f-R—O —C—O-2HO - R - OH + ICOCl 2
► HO-fR — O —C — O-
-R-OH-RAW
+ 2HCl+ 2HCl
ein Carbonatgruppen enthaltendes Diol, in dem η — \ ist. Bei einem Molverhältnis von 1,4-Bis-(hydroxymethyl)-cyclohexan zu Phosgen wie 1:0,9 resultiert dagegen entsprechend folgender Gleichung:a carbonate group-containing diol in which η - \ is. In contrast, a molar ratio of 1,4-bis (hydroxymethyl) cyclohexane to phosgene of 1: 0.9 results in accordance with the following equation:
10 HO — R — OH + 9 COCl2
HO—r-R—O —C10 HO - R - OH + 9 COCl 2
HO-rR-O-C
OHOH
+ 18 HCl+ 18 HCl
WirdTo perform the process, the calculated amount of phosgene with vigorous stirring into the mixture of l, 4-bis (hydroxymethyl) cyclohexane and inert solvent at temperatures not exceeding 75 ° C, preferably at 20 to 50 0 C, a gassed. Will
Das Lösungsmittel wird dann, gegebenenfalls bei vermindertem Druck, abdestilliert; dabei fallen die oligomeren, Hydroxylendgruppen tragenden Carbonate in großer Reinheit und nahezu quantitativer Ausbeute als farbloser Rückstand an.the phosgene is no longer completely absorbed, the introduction at lower temperatures is discontinued, z. B. between 5 and 20 ° C, continued. The resulting hydrogen chloride is from the reaction mixture in free form, if appropriate in a stream of inert gas, driven off; he can do a technical without further purification Use are supplied. The solvent is then, optionally at reduced Pressure, distilled off; the oligomeric carbonates bearing hydroxyl end groups fall into high purity and almost quantitative yield as a colorless residue.
It is surprising that practically chlorine-free, carbonate-containing dihydroxy compounds can be prepared by the process of the invention, although the reaction of the diol with phosgene produces about twice the amount of hydrogen chloride as when using bischlorocarbonates and although this hydrogen chloride is not obtained either by acid-binding agents or by reduced pressure is immediately removed from the reaction medium. According to the invention, products of high purity are obtained which are suitable directly for the production of high molecular weight polyadducts or condensates without a subsequent purification process. For example, an oligomeric l ^ -Bis-ihydroxymethy ^ -cyclohexane carbonate of the above formula (n = 3) with an average molecular weight of 634 with the equimolar amount of diphenylmethane-4,4'-diisocyanate without the addition of a prepared by the process of the invention Accelerator can be converted into a linear polyurethane with a K value of 50.
The oligomeric carbonates are excellent plasticizers, especially for polyvinyl halides, such as polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride and copolymers of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate. she are also used as a diol component for the production of polyurethanes.

Then the contents of the flask are cooled to about 10 ° C and the remainder of 230 parts by weight (2.3 mol) of phosgene was gassed in at this temperature over a further 3 hours. The reaction mixture is stirred at about 20 ° C for 14 hours, the majority of the the resulting hydrogen chloride escapes. While passing in nitrogen, the mixture is then carried out over the course of 4 hours heated to 120 ° C and toluene was distilled off. The contents of the flask will then be removed within 3 hours freed from residual solvent at 120 ° C./12 Torr, leaving 1285 parts by weight as the residue of a colorless, transparent, oligomeric carbonate with a hydroxyl number of 176 (see table).
