Description
The invention relates to a method for the production of catalyst supports from activated boehmite, the have an acidic surface reaction.
There are already a wide variety of catalyst supports for heterogeneous catalysis, their chemical and physical condition is usually so complex that numerous catalytic processes often result in one evade precise analysis.
Often, as better defined carriers, chemically relatively pure oxides are used individually or as a mixture of oxides. to encourage a particular reaction. This includes clay, due to its Ability to agglomerate, its abundance and its inherent carrier properties soon became of particular importance. This oxide can be in very different ways agglomerated, thereby greatly changing its porosity and active surface. This Properties combined with good mechanical strength are the prerequisites for that Alumina can be used in a wide variety of reactions.
One of the main areas of application is the petroleum industry. The specific capabilities of the various catalysts from alumina carriers have significantly increased the quality and number of achievable Products contributed.
The diverse properties of the alumina carriers are largely due to the polymorphism . of this oxide. The different forms - amorphous or crystalline and possibly hydrated - as well as their transitions depend on several factors that also affect the structure of the treated Bodies work and can be more or less easily separated from each other in practice, for example Temperature, the type of heating, pressure, relative amount of water present, basicity or acidity of the medium. As a result, the industrially produced alumina carriers are predominant Part neither precisely defined in their structure nor in their structure, but represent complex ones Mixtures of so-called transition alumina, some of which can be catalytically active and whose functions are often not exactly known.
So it is known that when reforming or catalytic cracking of gasoline the catalysts used act in two ways should, e.g. B. by a metal of the platinum group and by the acidity of the surface. Some clay carriers inherently have a certain acidity of the surface, which, however, fluctuates and is generally insufficient. In addition, the very empirical practice of catalyst manufacture has to do with it
in der Porenverteilung und der aktiven Oberfläche bestehen.ίο led that the alumina carrier is given the necessary surface acidity by adding small amounts of silica or halogens, preferably fluorine and chlorine.
First and foremost, of course, it is required of catalysts that they can operate for a sufficiently long time under conditions under which their mechanical strength is very stressed. In numerous experiments, the primary aim was to improve this strength while retaining the other carrier properties, which consist in particular in the pore distribution and the active surface.
The industrially produced carriers are very often if for economic reasons from the clay obtained by the Bayer process and contained hence significant amounts of tightly bound sodium hydroxide. The intrinsic acidity of certain varieties of transition alumina, which is sometimes present in the agglomerates, cannot therefore be incorporated into Appearance.
These considerations have led to numerous attempts as a starting material for catalyst supports much purer products, e.g. B. Precipitated and carefully washed aluminum hydroxide gels or aluminum alcoholates, to be used.
These include agglomerates mainly consisting of ^ clay, the inherent acidity of which they form on the surface makes appear particularly suitable as a support for platinum catalysts for reforming.
In the course of work in the field of transition alumina it has been found that the increase in mechanical strength of these supports within wide limits for the activation temperature and the associated active surface apparently depends on whether the clay in question has passed into the state of boehmite.
Ein Katalysatorträger auf Pseudoböhmitbasis wirdA catalyst carrier based on pseudoboehmite is
gemäß DT-PS 11 41 265 dadurch erhalten, daß Aluminiumoxidhydrat mit Salpetersäure aus einer Alkalialuminatlösung oder mit Lauge aus einer Aluminiumsalzlösung bei einem pH-Wert von 7,5 bis 11 kontinuierlich ausgefällt, bei einer Temperatur von 20 bis 50° C filtriert, die erhaltene Suspension enthaltend 40 bis 80 g/l Al2O3 bei etwa 120° C getrocknet und der erhaltene Pseudoböhmit 1 bis 4 Stunden lang auf 350 bis 500° C erhitzt wird.obtained according to DT-PS 11 41 265 in that aluminum oxide hydrate with nitric acid from an alkali aluminate solution or with alkali from an aluminum salt solution at a pH of 7.5 to 11 continuously precipitated, filtered at a temperature of 20 to 50 ° C, the obtained Suspension containing 40 to 80 g / l Al 2 O 3 is dried at about 120 ° C and the resulting pseudoboehmite is heated to 350 to 500 ° C for 1 to 4 hours.
In FR-PS 13 81 282 is a method for production of chemically very fine and crystallographically practically pure boehmite with a large amount of active Surface described, which consists in the fact that precipitated and washed aluminum hydroxide gels, which contain a certain amount of monovalent acid ions, ripen at moderate temperatures. the Boehmite obtained in the form of a mass or agglomerates can be ground. Above all, he finds as a film former, as a filler, as a pigment and as a pigment and as a precursor for very fine fired Products use.
When investigating the behavior of this boehmite as a starting material for agglomeration The catalyst support obtained has now been found that this support is not just a mechanical one Have strength, as it is due to the majority of fine boehmite agglomerated carriers, but that they also show a clearly acidic surface reaction, since the acidity, based on the Unit of the active surface, within wide limits the activation temperature remains constant.
The invention therefore relates to a method for producing catalyst supports based on activated boehmite by precipitating amorphous aluminum hydroxide gel from a sodium aluminate solution with nitric acid at a pH of about 8.5, filtering, washing and gentle drying ; of the gel at moderate temperature and activation by heating to at least 400 ° C and is characterized in that a gel that contains up to 35 percent by weight Al 2 O 3 and, based on the Al 2 O 3 , 0.05 to 0.5 contains mol monovalent acid ions, can in ,, form of a suspension or a cake during ti) from 15 hours to 10 days at 60 mature to 15O 0 C, whereupon the suspension or the cake in a known manner by extrusion or by means of of the rotary granulator agglomerates and the agglomerates dries and burns.
The catalyst supports obtained according to the invention with an acidic surface reaction are used in many ways to accelerate chemical reactions, in particular during reforming in the petroleum industry. They are characterized by the combination of an acidic surface reaction, a large specific surface and good mechanical strength. The following examples show that when firing at up to 700 ° C., the acidity is fully retained with only a slight reduction in the active surface area. Only at about 900 ° C, where y-Al 2 O 3 begins to change into other crystalline forms, does a noticeable loss of acidity occur. But even after two hours of firing at 900 ° C., the number of acid sites per 100 Å 2 is still 0.7 and the active surface area of the support is still about 100 m 2 / g. Such supports can i) be advantageous for the production of catalysts for others Reactions can be used as reforming, which, however, also require a certain acidic surface effect.
The invention will now be explained in more detail using the examples. Example 1 describes the preparation of the Active boehmite catalyst support according to the invention. The fine powder is made in the usual way agglomerated, e.g. B. by extrusion or in a rotary granulator. The properties of the catalyst supports obtained are compared with those of known carriers. Example 2 shows only the effect the surface acidity when reforming heptane under the influence of various platinum catalysts investigated, some of which used the activated boehmite obtained according to the invention as a carrier contain.
IOIO
A cake of aluminum hydroxide gel with 20% Al 2 O 3 was prepared by centrifuging, washing and filtering a suspension of aluminum hydroxide obtained by adding a sodium aluminate solution of 100 g / l, calculated as Al 2 O 3 , precipitated with a nitric acid solution. The concentration and amount of nitric acid was chosen so that the suspension contained about 50 g of Al 2 O 3 per liter and the molar ratio of NO 3 : Al 2 O 3 was 0.20. The pH of the precipitate was around 8.5. The washed cake was then carefully diluted again to a thick suspension of aluminum hydroxide gel with about 15% Al 2 O 3. This paste was stirred slowly for 20 hours at 140 ° C. and dried slightly so that it could be extruded in a known type of apparatus. The extrudates obtained were dried to constant weight at 110 ° C .; they consisted of a very fine boehmite with an active surface area of 190 m 2 / g. The dried extrudates were divided into two parts, one of which was calcined in a muffle furnace at 500 ° C. for 4 hours and the other at 700 ° C. for 2 hours would. The appearance was smooth in both cases and the mechanical strength was increased. The X-ray diagram suggested a pseudo-cubic structure that approximated that of the tetragonal y-alumina, a transitional form obtained on moderate calcination of common boehmites.
I are some properties of these extrudates and for comparison the properties of unripened gel extrudates and boehmite extrudates listed by the Autoclaving of transition alumina and by autoclaving of fine hydrargillite were obtained. The properties relate to compressive strength, the active surface and the pore volume and finally the number of acid sites

The table shows the good mechanical strength of the extrudates in columns 1 and 2 as well as the Presence of acid sites, which in addition only, but in a smaller amount, do not exist in the carrier matured gel are present. However, the acidity of the unripened gel remains at higher firing temperatures not pass. The values given for active surface area and pore volume show that these extrudates can be used as catalyst supports.
Außerdem wurden Katalysatoren von praktisch gleicher Zusammensetzung mit einem Träger aus nichtgereiftem Gel und mit einem Träger aus autoklavenbehandeltem Hydrargillit gemäß Beispiel 1 sowie mit einem Träger aus eta-Tonerde, der aus Bayerit erhalten worden war, hergestellt.2 mm thick extrudates, made from the fine boehmite with 190 m 2 / g active surface according to Example 1 after four hours of firing at 500 ° C, were soaked with a solution of platinum hydrochloric acid in such a concentration that they fixed 0.65% of their own weight in platinum metal . The catalyst obtained was dried at HO 0 C and then reactivated for 4 hours at 500 ° C. in air and then for 2 hours in hydrogen. The amount of chlorine reactivated under these conditions is quite small (about 0.15%) and its acidity can be neglected. In addition, catalysts of practically the same composition were produced with a carrier made of unripened gel and with a carrier made of autoclaved hydrargillite according to Example 1 and with a carrier made of eta-alumina obtained from bayerite.
For comparison, the catalysts described were used together with a conventional platinum-on-alumina catalyst, containing 0.4% fluorine as the catalytic acid element, for eight hour experiments used on reforming heptane. In these experiments, the dehydrocyclizing, the isomerizing and hydrocracking effect of the catalysts is measured and the strength is determined, by measuring the reduction in the amount of toluene formed at the end of the experiments. All used Catalysts did not contain more than 200 ppm NaOH. In the following Table II are the Results and the active surfaces are listed, with the values for the commercially available fluorine-containing Catalyst was arbitrarily designated 100.

The comparison shows that with the supports prepared according to the invention, catalysts are obtained which are practically are just as effective as the known fluorine-containing catalysts, but these are in terms of their strength significantly outperform.
