Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
Fig. 2 veranschaulicht den Schornsteinaufsatz in Seitenansicht. Fig. 4 zeigt eine schaubildliche Ansicht des Formsteins. The invention relates to a shaped block for the part of a chimney shaft which penetrates the roof skin and which passes through the roof ridge. The core of the molded block that forms the chimney pipe is surrounded by a jacket that is separated from the chimney walls by a fold. The purpose of this coat is to protect the joints between the roof skin and the chimney against the penetration of rainwater while avoiding the otherwise usual joint seals by means of zinc cladding or the like higher than the lower edge of the mantle. Fig. Ι shows a section through a chimney attachment equipped with this shaped block. Fig. 2 illustrates the chimney attachment in side view. FIG. 3 is a section through the shaped block along the line AB in FIG. 2. FIG. 4 shows a perspective view of the shaped block.
The shaped stone consists of an inner part a, with which it rests smoke-tight on the brick chimney shaft b that leads up to the roof skin. This inner part α is surrounded by a jacket c , which is connected to it at the top, but is separated from it on all sides by a fold d.
Two side surfaces of the shell c are cut out according to the ridge angle, so that when the shaped stone, as shown in Fig. 1, is attached to the chimney shaft, the attachment sits tightly on the roof and on the chimney shaft.
The fold d extends over the highest point of the angular recesses e intended to accommodate the roof ridge (Fig. 3) and serves, in conjunction with the jacket, to prevent rainwater from penetrating from the outside between the chimney shaft and the roof. The water seeping along the outer surfaces of the shaped stone flows from the lowest edge of the shell c along the roof surfaces because it cannot penetrate from the shell to the inner part α without having to cross the fold d , the highest points of which are higher than the edge of the mantle. In the fact that it is impossible when using this shaped stone that the inner wall surface of the chimney pipe becomes damp, as is often the case with ordinary chimney pipes, the advantage is also justified that the new chimney works significantly better in damp weather than
common chimneys.
