Bei der Herstellung von photographischen Abdrucken auf langen Papierbahnen hatte man mit der Schwierigkeit zu kämpfen, während der Belichtung das Negativ vor dem Verschieben zu bewahren und dadurch Unscharfen zu verhindern; denn beim Andrücken des Negativs gegen das Papier geschieht es leicht, dafs das Negativ auf der glatten Fläche der zum Exponiren dienenden Glasplatte sich seitlich verschiebt. Nun ist es aber zur Erzielung scharfer Bilder absolut nothwendig, dafs das zu kopirende Negativ seine ihm gegebene Lage während des Kopirens und während der unmittelbar vorausgehenden Operation des Anpressens beibehält. Man hat diese Schwierigkeit derart zu lösen gesucht, dafs man bei periodisch arbeiten den Kopirmaschinen das Negativ dadurch anprefste, dafs man unterhalb der das Anpressen besorgenden Druckplatte ein Vacuum erzeugte und unter der Wirkung desselben Papier und Negativ gegen einander preiste, Vorrichtungen, wie sie beispielsweise in der Patentschrift 91729 und in der schweizer Patentschrift 14433 ^eschrieben sind. Wenn man auch damit ein gleichförmiges Anpressen zu erzielen im Stande war, so vermied man doch keineswegs das Verschieben des Negativs. Zur Umgehung des Vacuums hat man vorgeschlagen, Bild und Papier durch Walzen gegen einander zu drücken, von welchen die eine aus elastischem Material besteht (Patentschrift 108324); aber auch hiermit war die Lösung des Problems nicht gegeben, denn wenn man auch bei sehr vorsichtiger Arbeitsweise die Verschiebung möglichst ausschlofs, so war bei sehr schnellem Gang der Cylinder doch ein Hingleiten der lose liegenden Negativplatte in der Längsrichtung möglich.
