Circuit arrangement for protecting a consumer, preferably one
Telecommunications equipment before exceeding the operating voltage The invention
relates to a circuit arrangement for protecting a consumer, preferably one
Telecommunications equipment before the operating voltage is exceeded.
machen. In the field of telecommunications technology, efforts are made to the greatest possible extent
to equip the devices with transistors. However, this intention makes special demands
to the power supply for such devices. Transistors are sensitive to voltage fluctuations
sensitive, and so care must be taken to ensure that no overvoltages occur
the transistors can occur, which otherwise lead to the destruction of the transistors.
Even short-term voltage peaks can make a transistor unusable
do.
Voltage protection circuits are common which use relays to switch off an increase in voltage and which are controlled by special transistor circuits. This type of voltage protection is not reliable because of the contamination of the contacts or, when using mercury contacts, it is position-dependent. In addition, the switch-off delay of the relay requires a great deal of resources that keep the voltage rise for the consumer during this delay low. A circuit arrangement is also known (Siemens publication: "Circuits with Semiconductor Components", Vol. 2, 1965, p.165), in the series branch of which a further transistor is connected. This circuit has the disadvantage that a type must be used for the series transistor which is suitable for particularly high blocking voltages.
According to the invention a circuit is proposed that thereby

The circuit is described in more detail with reference to the drawing: The power supply from a power supply unit or a battery takes place via the input terminal E of the protective circuit to a power supply device S, which consists of a control part with output filter means. The operating voltage is interrupted by a thyristor Ty 1, the anode of which faces the power supply unit. The protective circuit includes a Schmitt trigger known from its circuit, which consists of two transistors Ts 1 and Ts 2, a capacitor C 1 and six resistors R 1 to R 6 and which is inserted into the power supply before the thyristor Ty 1. The collector of the second transistor Ts2 of the Schmitt trigger is connected to the control electrode of the first thyristor Ty 1 via a seventh resistor R 7. The cathode of the second thyristor Ty2 is connected to an input terminal E and its anode is connected to the tap of a voltage divider between the minus and plus terminals of the power supply unit S, which is formed by two resistors R 8 and R 9 and two capacitors C2 and C3 connected in parallel . Between the power supply S and the consumer V there is a Zener diode D 1 with its anode connected to the operating voltage and the cathode in turn connected to a terminal of a tenth resistor R 10, whose second terminal is connected to the reference potential, and on the other hand to the base of a third transistor Ts3 connected, whose emitter is connected to reference potential and whose collector is connected via an eleventh resistor R 11 to the control electrode of the second thyristor Ty2.
The mode of operation of this circuit arrangement is as follows: If a direct voltage is applied to the input terminal E, the thyristor Ty 1 is ignited by the second transistor Ts2 of the Schmitt trigger. A current thus flows through the thyristor Ty 1 and the power supply device S to the consumer. As long as the voltage output by the power supply unit S is regulated and does not exceed the prescribed voltage value, the transistor Ts3 is non-conductive. If the control of the power supply device S fails, which can occur, for example, if a component fails, and the voltage behind the power supply device S rises, then the transistor Ts 3 becomes conductive via the Zener diode D 1, which is the voltage criterion. The transistor Ts3 sends an ignition pulse to the thyristor Ty 2 via the resistor R 11 and the thyristor Ty2 is ignited. In this way, a voltage with reversed polarity that is greater by the charging voltage of the charging capacitor C2 is applied to the thyristor Ty 1, which means that it is immediately extinguished. The consumer is thus disconnected from the power supply S without delay, and the overvoltage that has occurred is kept away from the consumer.
