Description
Device for generating dot-screened characters Above all For data processing systems, facilities are required that are able to To register information at high speed in a readable form. In individual In some cases, a reading by the eye is sufficient, but it is usually a permanent registration on a recording surface is desirable. A number of different types are already available for this purpose Process possibilities known that a fast and noiseless recording of characters and for this purpose "electrographically" with avoidance the previously common mechanically impactable printing types work. In particular is while the reproduction of the information is known by a light writing that z. B. can be registered in a photosensitive layer. It is also known to build up the characters from points of light, which are in the intersections of a grid and you have them - for the formation of large characters in light bulb fields Long-known - type of representation, more recently also to represent smaller Characters used on the screen of a character-writing tube from the electron beam written by the electron beam from point controlled to point and there is always lightly keyed.
From the so-called dot matrix printers, which are also dot-screened Generate characters, it is known to provide only a vertical row of needles, in which selected needles are energized, and the characters are built up by that the row of needles moves horizontally opposite the printing surface and remains constant Grid spacing prints the required dot pattern.
It is known from US Pat. No. 2,909,972 to use optical Modulators, such as polarization filters, make write beams effective in the form of a Light point grid with the help of a periodically moving mirror along the line direction to distribute on a recording surface. All points become one Characters generated at the same time. To get all characters in a line to different To be able to depict places, the mirror consists of at least as many mirror elements with different angles of inclination "such as numbers of digits provided in a line are, and he has to position each character in the start-stop mode of mirror element to be moved to mirror element.
Patent 3,037,202 describes the generation of characters provided with the electron beam of a screen tube. In doing so, the The whole characters displayed on the screen are transferred to the recording plane via a rotating prism pictured. To each character for a short time in one on the recording surface are to compensate for the continuously occurring image Beam deflection expended additional sawtooth generators, so that in the result here, too, a gradual deflection of the writing beam from character to character he follows.
The invention relates to a device for electrically controlled Generation of dot-screened characters by means of light or related radiation, in the case of the write rays selected from a plurality of write rays by optical Modulazors or made effective by touching the radiation sources at the same time and in the light point combinations generated in this way by periodically moving beam deflecting means are distributed on a recording surface. the Invention allows, when using continuously and rapidly working mechanical Parts also use high-energy radiation; it is with the invention Set up each character in rows continuously written by using points of light is worked, from which on a principle similar to that of the aforementioned dot matrix printers the characters are built up, but with optical means. The invention is thereby characterized in that the write beams are arranged such that they -as at Dot matrix printers known per se - on the recording surface in a single column Generate lying character points, and that the beam deflecting means the character point distribution Carry out in line direction with continuous movement. In one embodiment are radiation-emitting diodes, in particular laser diodes, as scanned radiation sources intended. Further features of the individual implementation of a device according to the invention will evident from the patent claims in connection with the following description of embodiments of the new device on the basis of the drawings. It shows F i g. 1 is a partially schematic diagram of an exemplary embodiment a device according to the invention, FIG. 1 a a grid of points for a character, F i g. 1 b part of a recording strip with recording line courses, F i g. 2 the modulation part of the device taking into account two possible designs.
Es sei zunächst die F i g. 1 a betrachtet. It shows one out of seven Lines and five columns consisting of an orthogonal grid, its intersection points have the same distances from one another in the two coordinate directions. The desired Characters, e.g. B. All letters as well as digits and some special characters can be written in Light writing can be generated in that at suitable intersections of the grid Light-. points are generated. As an example is by blackened small circles the number "7" is shown. The orthogonal distances between the grid points can e.g. B. 0.4 mm with a light spot diameter of 0.1 to 0.3 mm. The individual characters then have a height of about 2.4 and a width of 1.6 mm.
The dot-screened light characters are created by a device according to FIG. 1 generated. First, the beam path is considered, which is the in a certain grid line lying points in the course of the formation of each individual Characters as well as the formation of characters following one another in the line direction. For this purpose, the radiation source 1 is passed through the one arranged behind the perforated diaphragm 2 Lens 3 imaged in the recording plane or in an intermediate plane. In the beam path between lens 3 and the recording plane are a polarizer 4 and a Kerr cell 5 effective, which serves as a light modulator by being able in a known manner is to either let the polarized light through under the action of electrical signals or not to let through. From the Kerr cell 5, the light reaches an in Direction of the arrow drawn rotating polygon mirror 6. Each partial mirror of the polygon mirror 6 has the effect that the write beam reflected on it over a line running transversely to a recording strip 7 (in the drawing at the intended direction of rotation of the mirror 6 from left to right) migrates. Before the imaging beam hits the recording strip 7, it still penetrates a corrective lens $, which will be returned to later.
There is also a light interrupter disk on the shaft of the polygon mirror 6 9 attached with opaque »teeth« and translucent »tooth gaps«, which is directed from a light source 10 to a photoelectric converter 11 Intermittently interrupts light. The converter 11 thereby generates electrical clock pulses, which are supplied to an interrogation control unit 12a belonging to a digital memory 12 will. A clock pulse or a pulse edge used for timing control 11 always appears when the imaging point on the imaging surface 7 a grid point. At the same time it is effected that from the memory 12 either a binary value "0" or "L" is output, assuming that the voltage "0" makes the kea cell 5 impermeable and the voltage "L" makes it permeable. By those from the memory 12 with the clock given by the element 11 one after the other output binary signals is thus determined at which grid point locations the line of light spots formed on the recording strip 7 are written should.
The seven lines of the grid according to FIG. 1 a will be simultaneously written by having an imaging system of the type described for each line is, where the points at a raster reference time of the seven systems g & can be written at the same time, a column of the grid according to F i G. 1 a belong. The seven ray systems intended to generate these points, which in Fig. 1 lying one behind the other perpendicular to the plane of the drawing are in F i G. 2 drawn in a view from above, with essentially only the modulation part the facility is shown. Here are the same for the same parts Reference symbols as used in FIG. 1. You can see the seven in a straight line Line aperture holes 2 formed next to one another in a common sheet; Behind each aperture 2 there is an imaging lens 3, followed by the polarizers 4, which can also be formed by a contiguous polarization plate, this is followed by the seven Kerr cells 5. Each Kerr cell 5 receives its binary signals for light or dark switching of the associated light beam via its own signal line 13. Accordingly, in each case by the element 11 of FIG. 1 generated clock pulse seven memory cells of the binary memory 12 are queried at the same time, which indicate at which points of the column to be labeled at this moment a point of light must be generated and for this purpose the corresponding Kerr cells 5 permeable do.
There are various possibilities for the design and operation of the digital memory 12, which can expediently be designed as a kernel memory, which, since they are known in principle, need not be discussed in detail. In principle, it will have to be assumed that a data processing device 14 (FIG. 1) is present which outputs the data to be registered from an output memory 14a in sections. These sections can each correspond to a line to be registered, in this case the device 14 can be given a call signal for the transmission of a new line via a call line 15 after each written line. The organization can also be made so that memory 12 receives longer data sections and the control part 12a of the printer memory 12 has the task of separating the individual lines, which is particularly useful when, as will be described later, lines of different lengths are to be written. Each data section may be stored in a memory part 12 b of the memory 12. It indicates in coded form which characters should be written to represent this section. In addition, a memory part 12c will have to be provided which contains “character generators” which output the sequence of five bit groups of seven bits each required for a character to be written. These "character generators" can be sections of the core memory, each with 35 core marriages, which contain a field such as that of FIG. 1 a form, and an interrogation wire is passed through those kernels that correspond to the construction points of the respective character. To write a character, the generator field of the kernel memory provided for this character must then be queried column by column. According to the memory part 12 b z. B. gate circuits 12 d successively made effective, which connect the associated generator fields one after the other to the output part 12 e of the memory 12 according to the characters to be written consecutively.
It is now back to FIG. 2 referred to. As shown there, the individual diaphragm holes 2 can be illuminated from a common light source 1 via a concave mirror 16. As already mentioned, it is provided that a high-energy radiation source, such as. B. intense incandescent light or an electric arc, so as not to be dependent on the photographic registration of the characters on the recording surface. It can also be provided that the raster points to be written are burned into the recording layer or z. B. to use papers provided with a wax layer. In Fig. 2 shows yet another possibility for generating the modulated write beams in the form of radiation-generating diodes 17 shown in dashed boxes, which are preferably laser diodes. These are known for generating sharply focused, high-energy, coherent light beams which can be felt by electrical signals. The lenses 3 can then be omitted, the polarizers 4 and the Kerr cells 5 are also omitted, and the binary control signals of the lines 13 are transmitted to the individual diodes 17.
In Fig. 2, the parallel beam paths coming from the diaphragm openings 2 are deflected by 90 ° by mirror surfaces 18 inclined by 45 °, which are arranged in such a way that the beam spacing is reduced in a first stage. In order to maintain the close spacing of the points of a column on the recording surface, various optical deflection means can be provided. It can e.g. B. an imaging lens 19 can be provided, which the rows of points moved together in the desired manner on the registration surface over the plane mirror of the mirror polygon of FIG. 1 maps. When the contraction, e.g. B. is achieved in this way by converging the write beams, small distortions that result when passing through the line can be optically corrected, z. B. by suitable refraction surfaces on the underside of the correction lens B. When using from the outset sharply bundled, in particular with laser light formed writing beams, the contraction to 0.4 mm distance can be brought about directly by the stepped mirror surfaces 18, the writing beams remain parallel over their entire course .
The upper surface of the lens 8, which is a stripe lens, is shown concave in the drawing. If the clock pulses output by the element 11 are equidistant, then the distances between the columns of points from the center of the strip 7 to the two edges would be somewhat larger due to the inclination of the imaging rays coming from the polygon mirror 6, which is inclined from the center. This is compensated for by the refraction of rays on the upper surface of the strip lens 8. However, this compensation refractive surface can also be dispensed with by periodically modulating the frequency of the clock pulses output by the element instead. Each individual mirror of the polygon mirror 6 has a certain number of "teeth" of the light interrupter disk 9, which run through between 10 and 11 during the active phase of the polygon mirror. This row of teeth can now be divided in such a way that the frequency of the pulses emanating from element 11 decreases starting from a somewhat larger value at the beginning of the line to be written and increases again from the middle of the line. It can be seen that in this way even column spacings can be brought about despite the different inclinations of the imaging beams striking the recording surface 7 Transport arrow direction. This is made possible in that the lines which are traversed by the rays coming from the polygon mirror 6 are inclined, as shown in FIG. 1 b is shown. This can be achieved by moving the axis 20 (FIG. 1) of the roller 21 transporting the strip 7 around the beam falling perpendicularly on the strip 7 by the angle w in FIG. 1 b is arranged pivoted perpendicular to the plane of the drawing. In addition, the transport speed of the strip 7 must be synchronized with the line writing speed. The running speeds of a motor 22, which drives the mirror drum 6 via a gear 23, and of a motor 24, which drives the transport roller 21 via a gear 25 , are controlled to constant speeds for this purpose via a control device 26 with known means, with the regulating Size the clock frequency coming from element 11 is fed to device 26.
In Fig. 1 also shows two photoelectric converters 27 and 28 which can be exposed by light beams coming from the mirror drum 6. An additional (eighth) beam path, which is not modulated, but is guided over the mirror drum 6 in the same way as the write beams described above, is expediently taken from the light source 1. This beam then strikes the transducer 27 before the beginning of a line and on the transducer 28 after the end of a line (in between it must of course be blocked by a strip-shaped diaphragm which prevents this constantly bright beam from striking the recording surface 7). A line start pulse is generated in converter 27 and a line end pulse is generated in converter 28. These pulses are also fed to the control unit 12 a. The line end pulse can e.g. B. can be used to call up the information for a further line via line 15.
It can also be provided that the transducers 27 and 28 are adjustable in the line direction and can be moved inward out of the illustrated end positions. In this way, the length of the lines to be written on the strip 7 can be changed, in particular both the line start point and the line end point can be relocated, in that the control unit 12a ensures that the write beams only occur in the interval between the line start pulse supplied by the transducer 27 and the one from Converter 28 delivered line end pulse can be scanned brightly.
