Description
Radiation protection for television cameras It is often desirable to have pictures of themselves, for example, in reactor rooms or others that contain radiation To transfer rooms playing processes. In these cases it is necessary To introduce a television camera directly into the reactor rooms or the like. It has It has now been shown that the life of the lenses of the generally vidicon tubes containing cameras and also the transistors in the circuit of the cameras the radiation exposure is significantly reduced. While the camera is itself with relatively simple means, e.g. B. by housing made of shielding material against can protect the radiation, this is problematic in the area of the light inlet opening the optics of the camera. The through this opening partially through the lens into the Radiation entering the camera determines its service life.
There are television cameras for use in rooms with radioactive rays, e.g. B. reactor rooms, with a housing that shields against the radiation and with deflecting mirrors that do not reflect the radiation, which deflect the image to be transmitted to the lens of the camera. For example, in British patent specification 915166, a camera is described whose receiving tube is protected against rays of thermal neutrons and which is located in a housing which has a straight light shaft. The opening of the light shaft is covered by a mirror system against thermal neutrons, which consists of a concave and a convex mirror and which directs the light onto the television tube. The mirrors are made of a material that absorbs thermal neutrons. Protection against gamma rays can only be achieved with difficulty in this way, since the mirrors would then have to be thick and heavy and therefore their mounting would be expensive due to their great weight. Furthermore, the secondary radiation generated by the absorption of neutrons can lead to premature destruction of the television camera. A television camera has become known from US Pat. No. 2905758 which has a housing with a likewise straight light shaft, the axis of which is arranged perpendicular to the direction of radiation. In front of the light shaft there is a swiveling mirror that deflects the light onto the television tube. Radioactive radiation that falls on the camera in the direction of the light shaft axis can reach the lens and the receiving tube almost unhindered. With the invention, an effective protection of the pickup tube is to be achieved. According to the invention, the radiation protection housing has a labyrinth-like light shaft on its surface covered with radiation-resistant material that does not reflect the radioactive rays.
An essential idea of the invention is therefore to be seen in the fact that due to a suitable design of the protective housing in conjunction with a suitable arrangement of radiation-resistant and, in turn, non-reflective radiation Deflecting mirrors do not open the camera lens towards the source of this radiation that is dangerous for the camera.
Has as a material for the manufacture of the radiation protection housing For example, lead has proven itself in the case of gamma radiation; for protection against fast neutrons can use more or less thick moderator layers Find. The use of such materials is known.
Those mirrors that have been provided with a protective layer against corrosion are, as a rule, are ruled out because these anti-corrosion layers are underneath show a tan under the influence of radiation, d. H. the mirrors are not radiation-resistant are. Also, no mirrors vapor-coated with metals susceptible to corrosion, for example so no silver mirrors, find use. One is usually made of chrome steel or Use chrome-vaporized glass mirrors as deflecting mirrors in the invention.
In a preferred embodiment of the radiation protection according to the invention are the deflecting mirrors in to change the recording direction of the camera when stationary The number of cameras required can be rotated or swiveled. For this purpose, for example Find electric motors with appropriate master gears use. This variant the invention thus makes it possible to take different images with the camera stationary or to transfer image areas. A corresponding embodiment the invention is characterized in that the radiation protection housing in cross section has the shape of a G, the opening of which forms the beginning of the light shaft, the Contains deflection mirror, which the image to be transmitted into the lens of the loop of the G-arranged camera. In this embodiment are therefore in the Usually at least two deflection mirrors are required.
An exemplary embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawing. The cross section of the radiation protection housing 1 has at least approximately the shape of a horizontal G. It can be seen that the opening 2, which forms the beginning of the light shaft 3, points in the direction of the radiation generator not shown in the figure, for example a reactor; the direction of the radiation is shown by the arrow entered below the housing 1. However, by rotating and / or pivoting and / or shifting the camera and the housing, this radiation can also come from any other direction without reaching the camera 4 .
The television camera 4 is within the almost closed loop arranged in the left part of the figure. The arrangement is done so that the lens 5 of the camera points in the direction of the labyrinth opening. It's in terms of that selected shape of the housing 1 required to provide two deflecting mirrors 6 and 7, to the entering from below through the opening 2 in the light shaft 3, the To guide image reproducing light bundles into the lens 5 of the camera 4.
Understandably, care must be taken that the inner surfaces of the Light shaft 3 with non-reflective radiation that endangers the camera Material, for example plastics interspersed with boron, is occupied. In the figure such an assignment is indicated by the reference symbol 8.
So that the direction of observation can be varied when the camera is stationary can, one or more deflection mirrors can rotate or rotate with the camera stationary be kept pivotable. The rotatability or pivotability is preferably achieved Motors achieved.
The invention offers reliable radiation protection for television cameras, those, for example, in reactor rooms or in other rooms filled with radiation should be used. The possibility is there, despite being more complete Radiation-proof encapsulation of the television camera and with a fixed television camera the possibility of changing the direction of observation through a slight additional effort and thus to give to the selection of the process to be transferred.
