Description
Process for the automatic multi-stage charging of accumulator batteries The invention relates to a method for automatic multi-stage charging of accumulator batteries, in which the charging current more than once each time the gassing voltage is reached by a voltage-dependent switching arrangement, which on a step switch acts, is reduced.
The multi-stage charging of accumulator batteries is different Embodiments known. These all pursue the purpose in the shortest possible time Time to fully charge the battery.
The closest you get to this goal is to load after the so-called IUI characteristic, whereby one initially charges with a relatively high, constant current, until the gassing voltage is reached. From then on the tension is kept constant, whereby the current decreases continuously. After reaching a lower, permissible With the limit current, this current is kept constant in the third stage until it is fully charged and then has to be switched off. In this method, the battery becomes everyone Time with the maximum permissible current and thus charged in the shortest possible time. The setting of the charging device must, however, depend on the connected battery be adjusted by changing the current of the third stage to that for the battery type in question and size is set to the maximum permissible value. Carrying out the charge also requires a complicated and expensive automatic control system. Can do this connected to the charging device in question only a single battery will.
These disadvantages become part of the charging according to the IU characteristic avoided. With this method, the last charging stage is omitted and the current sounds to a very low value at the end, which does not require any special shutdown. Batteries of any size and number of cells can even be used in such devices can be connected at the same time, but this method is also a complicated one Automatic control required, and which ultimately requires a very low charging current relatively long charging times when the batteries are fully charged should.
In addition, there are various arrangements for carrying out the automatic multi-stage charging of accumulator batteries became known at which the charging current is gradually reduced when the gassing voltage is reached will. For this purpose, the accumulator batteries are voltage-sensitive switching arrangements connected in parallel, which actuate relays when the gassing voltage is reached gradually reduce the charging current. Impulse current relays, for example, are used as relays used with step switches that control the charging current when the gassing voltage is reached to decrease. This charge can be reloaded by time switches for limited recharging periods or the total charging time is limited by time switches.
However, these known multi-stage charging methods have different ones Disadvantage. In particular, a thorough charge of the Accumulators reached batteries, and the charge is not carried out in an optimal way short duration.
The object of the present invention was to avoid the above Disadvantages of creating a charging method in which the costs for the charging device stay within reasonable limits. In the case of the charging process, which in the ideal case is the IU characteristic should come close, however, a full charge should be achieved in a shorter charging time. In addition, the device should work so safely that it works regardless of the size of the battery and the state of charge of the battery.
This object is achieved in the method according to the invention by that one or more switching positions of the stepping mechanism that controls the charging current gradually reduced, repeated several times.
For example, the device according to the invention sees a time switch before which the current-regulating step switch automatically to the first switching stage and he travels longer than a predetermined period of time for the reasons above remains in a switch position. Then the above-described begins in stages Downshift again, as often as necessary until the last step is reached. A The time switch mechanism ends after a grace period of a specified duration the charging process.
If the step steps are chosen finely enough, a Charge can be achieved which is practically equivalent to an IU charge. The advantage over the IU charge, however, is that the current strength of the the last step can be kept at such a height that a shorter one can be achieved Full charging time results than with the IU characteristic.
Examples The drawing shows in FIG. 1 shows a circuit example for the device described. The numbers mean 1 to 6 contacts of the step switch, 7 impulse relay, 8 contact set of 7 (step switch), 9 battery, 10 power button, 11 voltage-dependent switching arrangement; z. B. Relay, 12 make contact of 11, 13 relay, 14 make contact of 13, 15 1st break contact of 13, 16 2nd break contact of 13, 17 time switch mechanism, 18 switching element.
If the battery voltage rises in the course of the call charge of the accumulator battery to the limit of the gassing voltage (about 2.4 volts per cell for lead batteries and about 1.6 volts per cell for nickel-cadmium batteries), the voltage-dependent switching arrangement 11, e.g. B. a relay, a contact measuring mechanism, a transistor circuit with Zener diode, a thyratron circuit, and actuates the relay 13. This interrupts the power supply to the contact set of the surge relay 7 and thereby switches the step switch 8 one step further, whereby the charging current is reduced. Also at the same time, the voltage-dependent switching arrangement 11 is separated from the battery voltage, it must be ensured that the relay 13 pulls through fully. As a result, the voltage-dependent switching arrangement reaches the starting position again; also the relay 13. The switching cycle described is repeated each time the gassing voltage is reached, whereby the charging current is reduced by the surge relay and finally switched off in the last stage 6 or controlled by a timer over a further selectable period of time and then switched off. If the step switch 8 remains in a switching stage for longer than a predetermined time, a time switch mechanism 17 operates, which acts on the step switch mechanism 8 via the switching element 18 and resets it to one of the preceding stages, in particular to stage 1. An example of the time course of the battery voltage U as a function of the time t on an older, fully discharged lead-acid battery is shown in FIG. 2 shown.
The numbers 1 'to 6' denote the times at which the step switch switches to the switching stage (FIG. 1) corresponding to the respective number. d t1 is the maximum running time for a switching stage, which is preselected by means of a time switch mechanism. d t., is the post-period.
The charging current in switching stage 1 is so great that the voltage on the fully discharged older battery immediately reaches the gassing voltage, so that the charging current is reduced in stage 2. For the same reason, it soon switches to charging current 3. The course of the charging curve normalizes, ie the sulphation decreases, but the charging time at level 3 is too long. After a specified time A t1, the step switch is therefore reset to its initial position. The further course of charging corresponds roughly to that of a partially discharged, faultless battery. In switching stages 3 to 5, the battery is practically fully charged, and in the last switching stage 6 of the step switch, the charging current is either switched off (curve 17 in FIG. 2) or controlled by a time switch mechanism during a subsequent post-period (curves 18 and 19 ), after possibly having been greatly reduced again (curve 18).
The new process enables quick and thorough charging of accumulator batteries with a simple and inexpensive charger.
In particular, if a battery pack is severely sulphated, it can result the higher internal resistance of the battery that the first switching stages happen a stepping mechanism with the known multi-stage charging run through very quickly and the charge takes place in a low switching stage, although in the meantime the capacity of the battery to return to normal due to the disappearance of the sulfation has become. The new process makes it possible to also use such sulfated accumulators can be recharged properly because of the increased power consumption at certain times of the accumulator by switching back to one of the previous charging stages Is taken into account. This significantly shortens the loading time. This advantage is of particular importance for sulfated accumulators, but it does play also plays an important role when charging non-sulphated accumulators. the The current capacity of an accumulator is determined by the most varied Operations increased during the charge. This increases the power consumption of a Accumulator during charging due to the greater heating and thus the increase in the diffusion speed the acid. This applies in particular to a high initial amperage in the first charging stage, as required for fast loading. Also by converting lead sulphate In lead dioxide or lead sponge, the diffusion resistance is reduced because the relevant mass particles assume a smaller volume. In addition to the diffusion resistance the ohmic resistance also decreases. By using the invention The method can therefore significantly reduce the charging time for all accumulators can be achieved without difficulty.
