By Monier, G. A. Wayss, Koenen and their successors is the use of Cement bodies with iron inlays have been introduced into technology, and that is both about the production of building parts during the construction, mainly about Ceilings, as if the actual fabrication and mass production of objects, which are installed in the finished state, plates, vessels and tubes. on the other hand are after the process of Michae'li's procedure became known, after which a moist mixture of lime and sand with strained Steam is treated to thereby obtain a texture which resembles that of the hardened cement mortar to a high degree.
The invention described below is based on the combination of these two methods. Experiments have shown that when one comes out of a damp Mixture of about one part lime and 10 parts sand molded pieces with iron deposits forms and hardens them in compressed steam, ■ these fittings show a behavior which on a par with those made from Portland cement mortar and iron inlays is. In particular, there are no inconveniences as a result of the various heat emissions expansion of lime mortar and iron, both components adhere very firmly to each other and the iron is not attacked even if the fittings are left under water for a long time, which, as is well known, ■ is the case in ordinary lime mortar.
The economic advantage of the process, molded pieces of lime mortar with iron inlays produced by treatment with pressurized steam, is based on the considerable savings, those with the use of lime mortar (1:10) compared to that of Portland cement mortar (1: 5), as required for the Monier process is, is achieved; namely, it is the cost of the binder in the present process not yet a tenth of that for the binder in the Monier process.
The technical advantage lies first in the speed of execution. Does the Cement mortar requires one to two months for complete hardening, this is the case with the present one The process only takes a few hours, and for this reason the most varied of structures can be used during construction as required can be delivered immediately, which * is impossible with the old method.
Another technical advantage lies in the presence of an initial tension in the iron inserts, which emerges by name in larger workpieces. Because the expansion of the iron is greater than that of the damp lime mortar , the iron deposits in the mortar shift during the heating process, which is retained during the hardening process and a tensile stress when cooling in iron, as is the case with wired glass, causes its more favorable Influence on the flexural strength of the so produced Plates is known.
