dessen schädliche Nebenreaktionen fördernde Aktivität in ebenfalls bekannter Weise
bei 91 bis 93 °/o.Process for the production of hydrogen cyanide from formamide It is known to produce hydrogen cyanide by splitting formamide vapor at temperatures above 360 ° C. under reduced pressure in the presence of catalysts. According to German patent specification 1007 303, ferric oxide is used as the catalyst, its harmful side reactions promoting activity in a likewise known manner through partial or complete binding to acids with the formation of salts which are stable at the desired reaction temperature, or through combination with one or more non-volatile oxides of mono- to hexavalent metals is reduced. The binding of the ferric oxide can, for. B. by silica, phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid. The iron oxide can also be present as a spinel-like mixed oxide with an oxide of a divalent metal, the latter also being completely or partially replaced by oxides of mono-, tri-, tetravalent, pentavalent or hexavalent metals. The molar ratio of iron oxide to the sum of these oxides is in the range from 1: 4 to 4: 1. The hydrogen cyanide yields achieved with such known catalysts are 91 to 93%.
Die Lebensdauer der Katalysatoren, die z. B. in pelletisierter Form
The life of the catalysts that z. B. be used in pelletized form or as manufactured in extrusion catalyst grains, is about a year. After this time, the activity is shifted in favor of side reactions so that the yields of hydrogen cyanide are well below 90 % . When the catalyst is removed from the cracking apparatus, it is found that the catalyst grains have partially disintegrated into small particles that are as fine as dust.
Reaktionszone ausbaut, vom Feinkornanteil absiebtundden gröberen Anteil erneut,
Katalysator, einsetzt. It has now been found that such a catalyst can be used again
can be, having a higher activity than the freshly used or previously
has used when you use the catalyst after the activity has dropped from the
Expanding the reaction zone, sieving off the fine grain fraction and renewing the coarser fraction,
if necessary after supplementing the sieved amount of fine grain with fresh
Catalyst.
I dargestellt.
The process can be repeated as often as desired, the activity of the catalyst surprisingly increasing with increasing repetition and the proportion of disintegrated catalyst grains decreasing for the same reaction times. It is also possible, instead of fresh catalyst, to supplement the amount of catalyst that is missing after the fine-grain fraction has been sieved off with a catalyst from other batches that has been separated from its fine-grain fraction. When sieving the catalyst, for. B. the grains with a diameter smaller than 10 mm are removed. EXAMPLE An iron oxide-zinc oxide catalyst produced in a known manner, which is applied to silica strands with an average grain diameter of 10 to 12 mm, is introduced into the tubes of a cracking furnace known per se. These tubes are made of an iron alloy, as described in German Patent 1000 796 and the z. B. in addition to iron 13% chromium, 1% aluminum, 10 /, silicon, less than 10 / "manganese and about 0.10 /, carbon. The formamide is in a known manner at a pressure of 95 Torr and At a temperature of 390 to 400 ° C. at the outlet of the cracking furnace, at a formamide conversion of 95 to 97%, which slowly falls to 86 to 88 ° / p over the course of a year, an initially 92% yield of hydrogen cyanide is obtained The resistance of the catalyst layer increases by about 30 Torr. The change in yield over time is shown in the figure as curve I. In the figure, the time in months and on the abscissa The ordinate shows the yield of hydrocyanic acid based on the formamide used.
The catalyst is then screened off to the original particle size, with about 25% of the fines being omitted. The fraction separated is supplemented with fresh catalyst. Under the same conditions as stated above, a hydrogen cyanide yield of about 940/0 is initially achieved, which falls to 900 / "in the course of only 18 months. The change in catalyst activity over time is shown in the figure as curve II . sieving of the catalyst is the fine fraction, only at 10 to 1501 in the third use of the catalyst are o obtained under the same conditions with a test duration of approximately 18 months, yields of more than 94 ° /, the drop slowly to about 90 ° / a. The decrease in the yield is illustrated in the figure by curve III, after which the catalyst is sieved off and the coarse particles which have been separated off are used again.
The progress associated with the method according to the invention is shown
resulting in an increased yield of hydrocyanic acid and a considerably longer shelf life
of the already used catalyst, which at the same time means less frequent catalyst changes
and lower catalyst consumption.
