Description
It is known that metal wool spun into yarn, belt-shaped grinding and polishing tool, preferably steel wool, attached to a tape base as Tool for grinding and polishing objects, e.g. made of wood, metal, Plastics or the like. To use. The metal yarn strand is with such grinding and polishing tools by sewing, stapling, gluing or other suitable means attached to the tape base.
The previously known grinding tools described above Art have the disadvantage that the strands of yarn are partly too flat, partly too tight or in otherwise unfavorably lie on the surface, so that in their effect, that require the most free "cutting" possible are impaired. Another The disadvantage of the known grinding tools is that with the wear of the Abrasive coating often premature * destruction of the fastener, for example a fastening seam, and thus an undesired detachment of the covering are what give rise to a reduction in the quality of the grinding and polishing work can. For the same reason, the abrasive coating can often not except for one extremely possible rest can be used.
Through the invention. the disadvantages described are eliminated. The invention consists in that the metal wool yarn strands are bent to form helical loops protruding approximately perpendicularly from the carrier and the plane of the loops arranged one behind the other and next to one another runs parallel to the direction of the tape. The loops can be fastened to the base in a known manner by gluing, vulcanizing, sewing or by some other type of fastening.
When making the loops it is advantageous to proceed in such a way that the yarn is continuously wound around a row of adjacent pegs to form a loop each and the row of loops is then attached to the base, whereupon the pegs are pulled out of the loops. This ensures that the loops get the position on the base in which they sit on the peg. In this mode of operation, the yarn is advantageously continuously returned from the last pin of a row of pins to the first pin, so that several loops are formed one behind the other on each pin. This avoids free yarn ends which are pulled out when the grinding device is used and which can thus possibly give rise to damage to the grinding surface. According to the invention, the loops can also initially only be provisional, e.g. B. by gluing or in another 'way,' attached in interrupted or continuous rows on the base and then a total of, z. B. by sewing, stapling or the like, can be finally attached.
When applying the covering, it is also advantageous to proceed as follows: that a thread is drawn through the clear width of all loops and this in certain Distances to the base is attached. This has the effect that the individual The loop cannot rotate and the fastening of the loops is particularly reliable is.
It is advisable to use metal yarn spun by turning the spindle to the left to right-twisted yarn or to left-twisted yarn spun by turning the spindle to the right To bend loops. This has the advantage that the loops are easily machined without fear of yarn breakage or the formation of knots have to. It is also useful for the rows of loops to be at right angles to the direction of movement to be arranged on the grinding surface, as this results in the effect of free »cutting« in is guaranteed to a particularly high degree.
The invention is illustrated in the drawing, for example. It shows F i g. 1 shows a section through a grinding tool designed according to the invention, FIG . 2 shows a view from above of the grinding tool, FIG. 3 a view from below.
In the figures, 1 denotes a tape base as a carrier, for example a sackcloth tape. A metal wool yarn strand 2 is attached to the carrier and is bent into helical loops 3 protruding approximately perpendicularly from the base. The plane 4 of the loops 3 arranged one behind the other and next to one another runs parallel to the direction of the tape.
In the example, the loops are produced by winding them around pins arranged in a row or in a circle. When making the loops, the procedure is expedient in such a way that the yarn is first wrapped around a first peg in the row or circle, then around the next and so continuously around the remaining pegs, whereupon it is returned from the last peg to the first and then wrapped around the pegs again in the same way. This process is continued until a stack of loops is formed on each peg. These stacks are then attached by gluing, vulcanizing or in some other way with their back 6 on the base, whereupon the pegs are pulled out and the loops are then attached by stitching 5 . After the loops have been fastened in this way, in order to prevent the loop from twisting, a thread can still be drawn through all the loops, which thread is fastened at intervals on the substrate by sewing or in some other way.
The distances between the loops depend on the purpose for which the grinding tool is intended. In most cases, the closest possible location of the loops to one another should be considered. If the distance between the loops is large, it is advisable, instead of one stitching seam 5, to provide several stitching seams or an effective, possibly additional fastening in another way.
According to the invention is a good and uniform in a simple manner Formed sanding surface, in which the sanding part of the base is something is held while a closely related, non-abrasive part, the serves to fasten the yarn on the base, rests directly on the base.
