Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
The invention relates to the use of silver phosphate for the production of photosensitive Plates, papers, etc. Attempts have already been made several times to produce such papers (cf. e.g. Eder's Handbuch der Photographie, 2nd ed., 12th issue [4th volume, ι. Heft], p. Ig, 20), but without that the procedure could have become naturalized in practice. Also the modification attempted by Lyte, that of adding alkali salts to tartaric acid in association with Seignette salt, lactose and glue to form sodium phosphate, with which the paper soaked and which was then converted into silver nitrate, had no other Results. The inventor has now established through experiments that the addition of more free organic substances Acids leads to better results. Namely, the silver phosphates form with such Acids, gelatinous emulsions, which behave similarly to emulsions in every respect the silver haloids with albumen, gelatine or collodion. While meta- and pyrophosphate do not "behave significantly different from orthophosphate," shall in the following In practical receipts, silver phosphate is understood to mean the orthophosphate, as can be achieved by precipitating a silver nitrate solution obtained by means of sodium phosphate.
It has been shown that in addition to, as is well known, silver phosphate in ammonia, Phosphoric acid, nitric acid, acetic acid in a number of organic acids, such as tartaric acid, Citric acid, succinic acid, is soluble, and that if certain conditions are observed true emulsions can be achieved. The tartaric acid silver phosphate emulsion is so far has been widely used, and a specification for their preparation is set out below are given.
Man erhält die Emulsion zum Aufstreichen auf einer Temperatur von etwa 380 C.4.7 g of sodium phosphate, dissolved in about 0.5 l of water, are added to an aqueous solution of 4 g of silver nitrate. The resulting precipitate is carefully washed by decanting, avoiding losses of silver phosphate, and brought to a volume of 32 ecm 1 by tapping and carefully sucking off water. In this suspended silver phosphate, 18 to 20 g of free tartaric acid, dissolved in the same number of 1 cm of cold water, are added in one pour, in a wide-necked bottle, preferably made of yellow glass, which is then given a quick, circular movement without delay granted. The mass confesses to a white jelly and takes up about twice the volume of the original suspension. It contains the equivalent of 4 g of silver nitrate in silver phosphate. All reagents, including water, should be chemically pure. The emulsion for brushing on is obtained at a temperature of about 38 ° C.
48 g Citronensäure liefern mit 32 ecm der oben erwähnten Silberphosphatemulsion eine klare Lösung, derThe conditions given above have proven their worth, even in the production process significantly larger quantities. If the emulsion is left to itself in the cold, so A portion crystallizes out, and only a fraction of the silver remains in the solution. Citric acid seems to have the greatest affinity for silver phosphate. 48 g citric acid provide a clear solution with 32 ecm of the above-mentioned silver phosphate emulsion, the
besonders Empfindlichkeit und andere Eigenschaften innewohnen.especially inherent sensitivity and other properties.
The solution or emulsion obtained from silver phosphate with the aid of an organic acid is now applied in a suitable way, on a small scale using a flat brush, and then dried. If you put it like that prepared photographic paper under a negative of direct or diffused sunlight off, you get a positive picture with a pleasant tone. Will the paper be before the Apply the silver phosphate mixture with egg white or gelatin or a similar substance coated, one can copy in a shorter time than with the usual silver halide papers. The picture can be in one the well-known baths are toned and is finally fixed with sodium hyposulfite. This is followed by washing until the hyposulfite is removed. In the specified way you can also use other materials, such as wood, celluloid, lithographic stone, marble, Silk, cotton and other fabrics, sensitize to light, and the images on them that are not inferior to those on paper in delicacy and beauty.
The advantages of the new process consist in the fact that the silver phosphates without the mediation a binding agent such as albumin or gelatin can be used to make the phosphate mixture like a paint can spread, and that, finally, only a short immersion into very weak ones for fixing Hyposulphite solution is necessary, which in turn greatly shortens the washing out. If you let them Pictures longer than a minute in the fixir bath, this is how the sulphurization of the pictures begins. she will caused by the organic acid and leads to sulfur toning in a few minutes of the picture. Although sulfur clay is said to have many disadvantages, it suffers the pictures produced in the manner described do not, provided that the sulphurisation is not carried out continues for too long. By the simultaneous use of albumen one achieves that the Images toned by sulfur will not turn yellow and fade from exposure to the air. These experiences are gained through a series of experiments over a long period of time.
The usual color of images printed with Silberphosphaternulsionen or solutions is a pleasant brown or brownish-red one 'tone that darkens considerably during drying. Toning can therefore be avoided in many cases. The images produced on fabrics are usually brown. Pictures on cotton turn black when you run a hot flat iron over them, whereas this change does not occur with silk.
The photosensitivity of the silver phosphate emulsion is increased by the addition of a small Amount of citric acid increased. If a silver bromide emulsion is added, it is increased so that one can copy under the light of an ordinary kerosene lamp.
One smears paper with a solution of silver phosphate in citric acid and sets it from under a negative in direct sunlight, one obtains a picture of one pleasing blue-black tone, which can withstand comparison with others.
Papers which, after being coated with protein, are made light-sensitive by means of a silver phosphate emulsion or solution, are distinguished by their durability and resistance to climatic influences. So you can keep them and still copy good pictures with them.
• The new process allows the production of images with little work and in a short time. The picture goes from the copir frame into the fixir bath, which is made alkaline by adding a little sodium carbonate or bicarbonate if the original tone is to be retained. This is followed by washing in warm or cold water for about 5 to ι ο minutes.
