Transistor controller for with strongly changing speeds. drivable
Generators, especially automotive alternators The invention relates to
a transistor controller for generators that can be driven at rapidly changing speeds,
especially for automotive alternators, the one with the shunt field winding
of the generator contains a series-connected power transistor, which is connected to his
Emitter to an output line of the generator via a low-impedance resistor
is connected and the alternately from its fully conductive in the
non-conductive operating state is brought by a control transistor whose
Emitter-base path connected to the output voltage of the generator to be regulated
is.
With such controllers, the power transistor is connected in such a way that

Masse angeschlossenen Minusleitung 21 verbunden. Mit der Plusleitung
19
The alternator according to Fig. 1 contains in its housing 10 three fixed alternating current windings 11, 12 and 13 (Fig, 2) and a field winding 15, which sits on an armature shaft 16 mounted in the alternator housing and via a pulley 17 from a motor vehicle engine, not shown, opposite the AC windings 11 to 13 can be set in revolving motion. Each of the alternating current windings is connected via one of three rectifiers 18 to the common positive line 19 via one of three further rectifiers 20 to the common negative line 21 connected to ground. The positive terminal of a 12 V battery 22 which works together with the alternator is connected to the positive line 19. The regulator is accommodated in a housing 23 seated on the alternator 10 and contains a power transistor 30, the collector of which is connected to one winding end of the field winding 15, which is connected to ground on the other hand. A resistor 31 leads from the plus line 19 to the emitter of the power transistor, while the base of the power transistor is connected to the minus line 21 via a resistor 32. Above the. The voltage to be regulated between the plus line 19 and the minus line 21 is an adjustable potentiometer 34. Between the tap 35 of the potentiometer and the base of a second transistor 33, which is used to control the power transistor, there is a Zener diode 36 which is used as a setpoint generator and which is engaged in the reverse direction and only becomes conductive when the voltage effective between the tap 35 and the positive line 19 exceeds the breakdown value of the Zener diode of approximately 8 V. This occurs when the output voltage of the alternator threatens to rise above the setpoint of 14 V to be regulated. Then. the current of the Zener diode 36 flowing through the emitter-base path of the control transistor 33 makes the control transistor conductive. The collector current of the control transistor 33 is conducted via the primary winding 37 of a transformer 38 which has two secondary windings 39 and 40. The connection point P of the two secondary windings is connected to the negative line 21 via a resistor 42 . A rectifier 43 and 44 each leads from the other two ends of the secondary windings to the base of the power transistor 30. Between the base of the power transistor 30 and the connection point P there is a capacitor 45 of about 10 J, between the positive line 19 and the connection point P one in this direction A current-permeable silicon diode 46 which, together with the resistor 42, forms a voltage divider and keeps the potential of the connection point P at a value which is approximately 0.7 V below the potential of the positive line 19. The emitter of the control transistor 33 is connected to the end of the winding 39 connected to the rectifier 43 .
As soon as the control transistor 33 becomes conductive when the setpoint value of the output voltage of the alternator is reached, it generates a positive and a negative voltage half-wave of a self-excited oscillation in each of the windings 39 and 40. During these voltage half-waves, charging currents are fed to the capacitor 45 , which result in a voltage that increases the base of the power transistor to the positive and therefore block it until the charge fed during the blocking oscillation has equalized via the resistors 32 and 42. The control edge gate33 remains conductive and generates the self-excited oscillations that are used to block the power transistor until, because of the blocked power transistor, the excitation of the alternator has decayed to a value at which the output voltage falls below its setpoint and transistor 33 returns to its blocking state. The power transistor can then become conductive again and the controller cycle described can begin again.
Wridierstand 65'`in Verbindung.
In order to protect the power transistor 30 against excessive load, which can arise in the event of a short circuit occurring in the field winding 15, the protective arrangement 50, framed with broken lines in FIG. It contains an amplifying transistor 51 of the pnp type and a bistable multivibrator with a holding transistor 52 of the pnp type and with a switching transistor 53 of the npn type. The base of the transistor 51 is connected to the resistor 31 located in the emitter lead of the power transistor 30. A working resistor 54 arranged in the collector circuit of this transistor is connected to the tap 55 of a potentiometer 56, which is arranged between the negative line 21 and an auxiliary line 57 connected to the positive line 19. The arrangement 50 also contains a second voltage divider consisting of three resistors 60, 61 and 62 across the output voltage of the alternator to be regulated. The two resistors 61 and 62 are bridged by a capacitor 63 of approximately 10 wF. The emitter of the npn transistor 53 is connected to the connection point of the resistors 60 and 61. The base of this transistor is connected to the collector of the transistor 51 via a resistor 64 and to the collector &"i!'P" of the pnp transistor 52 via a wiring stand 65 ". The transistor 52 is connected with its exnitter to the connection point of the both resistors 61 and 62. Its base is connected via a resistor 66 to the collector of the pnp transistor 53, which is also connected via a resistor 67 to the tap 35 of the potentiometer 34 and to a capacitor 68 leading from there to the positive line 19 is.
stark an.
The resistor 31 in the emitter circuit of the power transistor is so small. chosen that at the highest value of the excitation current flowing through the power transistor 30 in undisturbed operation of the alternator, a voltage drop of such magnitude arises that the transistor 51 does not conduct current and the two transistors 52 and 53, which when the lighting system is switched on because of the capacitor 63 remain in their blocking state or return to it, cannot make it conductive. If the transistor 51 is made of germanium, the resistor should therefore only run about 0.3 V voltage drop in undisturbed operation. With a maximum value of the excitation current of 6 A, it must therefore not be selected greater than 0.05 Ohm. However, as soon as a short circuit occurs in the field winding 15, even if only briefly, the current flowing through the power transistor @ 30 rises sharply. Nice if. When this reaches 1.5 times the maximum excitation current strength, the voltage drop across the resistor 31 brings the transistor 51 into a current-conducting state. Its collector current flowing through the resistor 54 makes the transistor 53, which has been blocked since then, and this in turn conducts the transistor 52. Since the collector current of the transistor 52 is passed through the resistor 65 located in the base lead of the transistor 53 and therefore makes the base potential of the npn transistor 53 more positive, it becomes highly current-conducting. Its current-conducting emitter-collector path, together with the resistor 67, then forms a parallel circuit to the part of the potentiometer 34 located between the Zener diode 36 and the negative line 21 and makes the Zener diode and also the control transistor 33 conductive. This then triggers the self-excited oscillations that otherwise only occur when the setpoint is reached, which block the power transistor, as described above in the explanation of the undisturbed controller operation. In contrast to the periodic change between the current-conducting and blocked state of the power transistor 30, which occurs during undisturbed operation, the latter remains blocked for the duration of the short circuit until the alternator and the regulator are switched off by the battery. If the short circuit is still present when it is switched on again, the switching transistor 53 becomes conductive and blocks the power transistor 30 via the control transistor 33 and the self-excited oscillations generated by it.
