Die beiden Kugeltheile e¹ e² können in beliebiger Weise miteinander verbunden sein, also entweder einen zeitweiligen oder dauernden Verschlufs besitzen. Die Hülle ist oben mit einer axialen Oeffnung von solchem Durchmesser versehen, dafs sie die Einführung der Birne α^λ gestattet, und läfst unten gleichfalls eine Oeffnung für die Birnenspitze d^l frei. Die die Spirale c dicht umschliefsende und als Träger für sie dienende äufsere Kugel ist aus zwei Theilen e¹ e² hergestellt, welche nach ihrer Aufbringung auf die Spirale an der Vereinigungsstelle e mittelst eines geeigneten Bindemittels, Wasserglas, Canadabalsam oder dergl., oder mittelst eines Streifens /2 aus Glimmer mit einander vereinigt werden. Die obere Kugelhälfte e¹ läuft, wie oben beschrieben, in einen Hals f^l aus, welcher in einen .Metallring g^l von solchem Durchmesser eingekittet ist, dafs er über die Birne, α ^λ hinweggeschoben werden kann.
