Description

Molding compound stabilized against the effects of heat and light on the Polyvinyl chloride basis It is well known that they require polymerization products of vinyl chloride - such as polyvinyl chloride itself and the copolymers of vinyl chloride with other polymerizable vinyl monomers - for processing and use Stabilizers. Among these, both against the effects of heat and against the effects of light Effective stabilizers often have to be selected based on effectiveness be, d. That is, there are stabilizers suitable against the action of heat only a few that also have a stabilizing effect against exposure to light exercise and vice versa. There are also a number of different stabilizers in their stabilizing effect also with regard to the manufacturing process The polymer was produced. Many stabilizers effective for an emulsion polymer are not suitable or only to a very limited extent for the stabilization of a Suspension polymer or a block polymer and vice versa. Furthermore is at the thermal or photochemical stress on the polymerization products of the Vinyl chloride, in addition to compensating for the elimination of hydrogen chloride, is also a Prevention or suppression of oxidation processes required. That has often led to a combination of several stabilizers for processing the polymerization products of polyvinyl chloride is necessary. Also has experience taught that with the same manufacturing process a uniformity of the macromolecule own stability is not always guaranteed. As a result, stabilizers often fail and stabilizer combinations, even for polymers made by the same manufacturing process were obtained. Finally, it should be noted that substances that for processing plasticizer-free polymerisation products of vinyl chloride are suitable, are not in every case suitable for combination with plasticizers and vice versa and that is also quite considerable with the various plasticizers Differences occur.

All of these moments mean that when processing the polymerization products of vinyl chloride, in particular technically and economically the most important polyvinyl chloride, usually a very careful coordination of the stabilizers, Plasticizers, fillers and dyes and also a targeted selection of polyvinyl chloride batches must be made in order to achieve optimal properties of the end product. In this context it is worth mentioning that the stabilizing effect of connections with one or two direct Sn-S connections under simultaneous Processing with plasticizers are known.

Furthermore, we know some Sn compounds that have an S atom without direct Bonds on Sn included.

Thre effectiveness as PVC stabilizers refers to the Processing of plasticizer-containing vinyl chloride polymers. Moreover, acts these are organotin compounds with ester character or physiological not harmless connections.

It has now been found that processing is considerably simpler if the stabilizers used are reaction products of dialkyl, diaryl or diarylalkyltin oxide with the thioether dicarboxylic acids of the general formula: Here, R and R1 are identical or different alkyl, aryl or aralkyl radicals, n and n1 1 to 8, where n can be different from n1, and m = 1 or 2. An example of this new group of stabilizers is: dibutyltin thiodipropionate , Diphenyltin thiodibutyrate, or butylphenyltin dithiodipropionate. These compounds are extremely effective both in terms of their possible use in emulsion and suspension polymers and in terms of their effectiveness as heat and light stabilizers and as oxidation inhibitors. Furthermore, the stabilizing effect is always equally good for all batches of the polymers produced. It was also irrelevant whether and which of the commercially available plasticizers were used. It should be noted in particular that the stabilizing effect also occurs in the presence of zinc white as a pigment.

The stabilizers according to the invention are prepared in the usual way. They are used according to the well-known rules by calculating 0.5 to 2% on the polymerization product of vinyl chloride.

In the case of vinyl chloride polymers with a high K value, it also shows the stabilizer effect still significantly facilitates processing Rolling and screw pressing due to the lubricant effect of the tin compounds according to the invention.

A combination of these tin compounds with other than stabilizers known non-organometallic compounds such as urea and its substitution products or dicyandiamide, is quite possible.
