Abstract

The combined glow plug and cylinder pressure measurement system is mounted in the cylinder head of a diesel engine. It has a heated rod or inner pole (1.1.1) extending into the combustion chamber. The middle and base portions of the rod are surrounded by a metal casing with a small air gap. A thin-walled portion (2a) at the base end has an in-turned flange and bears against a sealing ring (7) and an insulating bush (8). A narrow base portion of the inner pole (1.1.2) passes through the central bore of the bush. The bush and insulating base are connected to a mounting (9). The chamber inside the thin part of the casing contains an L-section ring (5) holding a piezoelectric sensor (3). An insulating ring (4) separates the sensor from the flange of the casing.
