Abstract
A floating body (FB) (10) floats in a carrier medium (CM) and is covered by a measuring unit (15) for determining/monitoring the degree to which the FB is covered by the CM. An evaluation unit determines/monitors the thickness of layers of a liquid medium by using the degree of covering and utilizing the fact that the FB's buoyancy depends on the thickness of layers of a liquid medium.
