Abstract

In a method for spatially constant positioning virtually outside of the head of a listener (1) placed listening events, which are reproduced via a headphone (11), the audio signals are influenced by a head-related transfer function (HRTF) so that the typical headphone reproduction in-head Localization is avoided. In order to avoid the effect of head-moving auditory events, the movement of the head is detected and the signals for the left and right channels of the headset (11) are adjusted so that the direction (6) from which the auditory event appears to come remains constant. The detection of the position of the head is either relative to the torso of the listener (1) or absolutely in the listening room. Upon detection of the absolute position of the head, the position signal is passed through a high-pass filter (21) so that temporally shorter, rapid head position changes are passed substantially unchanged to a filter tracking circuit. Temporally longer changes in the head position result in accordance with the transitional period of the high pass (21) for correcting a preferred direction (4) from which the auditory event is perceived. Furthermore, an arrangement for carrying out the method according to the invention is proposed.
