The invention relates to an embodiment of the decomposition device of patent 1 010 516. Subject matter mentioned patent is a device for the decomposition of alkali amalgams, consisting of a Stacked in a container, mutually supporting and forming a block, with grooves provided graphite troughs, which is characterized in that the tops of the trough bottoms with from the Base plate are provided with hollowed-out grooves for the circulation of the amalgam to be decomposed and the Space between the container walls and the block is only that resulting from the decomposition of the amalgam Contains hydrogen.
Accordingly, the graphite troughs containing the caustic solution are arranged one above the other in such a way that the lower trough carries the trough located above it, which in their entirety form a block. Each trough is provided with parallel, upwardly open grooves which are cut into the trough bottom and which serve the direction-determining circulation of the amalgam to be decomposed. One or more of the Blocks formed from troughs arranged one above the other are accommodated in a container, wherein the space between the blocks and the container walls from that developed on the cathodes Ingested hydrogen.
The container surrounding the block has an amalgam inlet, an outlet for the mercury or for the sufficiently decomposed amalgam, an inlet for water, an alkali outlet and one Provide hydrogen outlet. The container must consist of one against the reaction products and the two the decomposition occurring temperature-resistant material must be made.
According to the invention, the construction of the graphite troughs of the device of patent 1 010 516 now becomes modified in such a way that the modified troughs carry out a special process of decomposition of alkali amalgams.
Um dieses Verfahren mit der Vorrichtung des Patents 1 010 516 durch-Alkaliamalgamzersetzer It can namely in the production of alkali hydroxide solutions by decomposition of the corresponding Amalgams can be beneficial to the amalgam at several separate points at the same time to be introduced into the decomposition device along the path of the aqueous solution according to the method German Patent 1 002 298. In this process, this is done in several substreams divided mercury containing the amalgam to be decomposed to a decomposer at the same time along the course of the alkali that forms in this way to separate points. that the undecomposed Amalgam not mixed with partially or completely decomposed amalgam. To this procedure with the device of patent 1 010 516 by-alkali amalgam decomposer

To be able to lead, the device of the patent has been modified according to the invention in that the Troughs, preferably accessible from the outside, on the side surfaces facing the direction of the amalgam flow formed as pits, the outlet and inlet of the amalgam serving openings.
The openings designed as pits can be connected to the inside of the trough in the manner of a siphon stand. This ensures that the amalgam is accessible at the end of each trough and that the path of the Amalgams can be changed from any trough to another according to specific manufacturing needs.
The drawings explain the preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention.
Fig. 1 stellt einen senkrechten Schnitt von zwei übereinander angeordneten Trögen in einer durch einen Einlaß und einen Auslaß für das Amalgam hindurchgehenden Ebene dar;Fig. 1 shows a vertical section of two troughs arranged one above the other in one through an inlet and an outlet for the amalgam through plane;
Fig. 2 zeigt einen senkrecht zur vorherigen Schnittebene liegenden und durch die Linie a-a gehenden Schnitt des Trogs;2 shows a section of the trough lying perpendicular to the previous sectional plane and passing through the line aa;
Fig.„3 ist ein Schnitt, wie ihn Fig. 2 darstellt, jedoch durch die Linie b-b von Fig. 1 gehend.FIG. 3 is a section as shown in FIG. 2, but passing through the line bb of FIG.
According to FIG. 1, the troughs 1, 2 have three side walls of the same height and one side wall less Height 3, 4, which form a weir that determines the height of the aqueous solutions in the troughs.

“• The bottom of the troughs is slightly inclined and with parallel lines! Provided with grooves, which through partitions 5, 6, which are made of graphite, are formed. By the amalgam flows through these grooves during decomposition.
The aqueous solution (or optionally water) is fed to the upper trough at 7, it runs through the trough parallel to the grooves filled with amalgam and arrives at 9, from where it spreads over the weir 3 pours into the pit 11 in order to get through the openings 13 at 8 into the following trough, to finally according to the run in the previous trough over 10, 4, 12 and 14 in the next one Flow trough. The amalgam runs through coming from the outer pit 15 of the upper trough one or more siphons 17 into the trough, where it is distributed to the grooves in the bottom of the trough. It leaves the trough through one or more siphons 19 which are hollowed out between the openings 13 and reaches the outer pit 21, follows its sloping bottom and pours through opening 23 in the following trough. It runs through this trough and arrives one after the other at points 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, which correspond to positions 15, 17, 19, 21, 23 of the previous trough.
The siphons 17 and 19 form hydraulic mercury seals. They prevent the Electrolyte does not choose the passage carved out by the amalgam, but that it in the troughs that reached a certain level through the weirs 3. The inclination and the arrangement of the siphons are such, that they are easily accessible from the outside in the event of accidental clogging.
The amalgam leaving any trough can, before it reaches the next trough, at the exit 23 of the former can be collected by a removable funnel 26 which goes into the outer pit 16 of the following trough is immersed. If one works according to that described in German patent specification 1 002 298 Procedure, the amalgam to be decomposed, instead of only being fed to the upper trough, Distributed over several troughs and after passing through the troughs as mercury at the outlets 23 the outer pits 21 are collected and fed to a collector to finally be the source of electrolysis to be fed.
