Abstract

The snare drum has a drum body with a resonance skin and a snare string mat provided by a number of parallel metal wire screw springs tensioned between 2 end hoops passed around at least one roller of a tensioning clamp on one side of the drum body and passed around at least one freely rotatable roller on the opposite side of the drum body.

Description

The invention relates to a snare drum.

Snare drums of conventional design have snare strings ( 6 ) which are made of metal or plastic. In particular, the string carpets ( 1 ) made of metal consist of spirally manufactured wires ( 6 ), which are usually chrome-plated. These are soldered to a sheet or otherwise attached to a snare string holder ( 7 ), also called tensioning pieces, which are used to tension or relax all the strings at the same time.

The snare string receptacle ( 7 ) is usually fastened to the drum on the right and opposite on the left via a cord ( 8 ) ( FIG. 6). These cords ( 8 ) are in turn clamped on one side to a bracket ( 9 ). The ends of a cord are then knotted together.

On the opposite side there is usually a tensioning device ( 4 ) which serves to tension and relax the string carpet ( 1 ). The strength of the clamping can be selected using the adjusting screw ( 13 ).

Here, too, both ends of the cords are usually clamped together and together knotted.

Furthermore, plastic straps ( 3 ) are used instead of the cords, which are also clamped to the bracket ( 9 ) on one side and to the tensioning device ( 4 ) on the opposite side.

The fact that both the cords ( 8 ) and the plastic straps ( 3 ) for fastening the string carpet to the drum shell on the tensioning device ( 4 ) and the bracket ( 9 ) are firmly clamped ( Fig. 5 and 6) prevents a free and independent movement of the string carpet ( 1 ) around the vertical axis.

In particular when replacing the resonance head ( 2 ) due to wear, at least one of the two cords ( 8 ) or one of the bands ( 3 ) must be released from the clamped position.

Most of the time it is not possible to clamp the string ( 8 ) again so that both sections of the string ( 8 ) leading to the string carpet are exactly the same length.

This fact can already exist at the factory and can lead to individual spiral strings ( 6 ) of the string carpet ( 1 ) being tensioned unequally and thus warped. It should be noted here that the strings ( 6 ) do not have sufficient elasticity, since the tensioning device ( 4 ) would otherwise not have the desired effect.

The variant in which bands ( 3 ) are used also causes an uneven tensioning of the individual strings ( 6 ) if the bands ( 3 ) are not clamped exactly 90 degrees on both the bracket ( 9 ) and the tensioning device ( 4 ) ,

It can therefore often be observed that the outer strings ( 6 ) of the string carpet ( 1 ) in particular are stretched and thus longer than the other middle strings. When tensioned, however, this in turn means that the strings ( 6 ) that have not yet been warped lie evenly on the resonance head ( 2 ), but the longer and stretched strings ( 6 ) continue to vibrate after striking the drum and cause unwanted noise.

This problem, which almost every drummer and drummer knows, will then be tried in vain to solve the problem by setting the tensioning device ( 4 ) so that the entire string carpet ( 1 ) and thus all snare strings ( 6 ) are tensioned so much that the stretched and somewhat longer strings ( 6 ) now lie firmly on the skin ( 2 ) and no longer swing. This pulls the string carpet ( 1 ) onto the resonance head ( 2 ) so tightly (tensioned) that it can no longer respond sensitively enough when played softly. Likewise, if the tension is too high, heavy wear of the very thin resonance head ( 2 ) (thin plastic film) is expected. The string carpet is released and relaxed with a lever, whereby a uniform tension distribution over the entire string carpet is not sufficiently fulfilled. Furthermore, the cord loop is passed through an eyelet, which can not tension the cord loop with low friction.

The object of the invention is to provide storage of the string carpet so that the string carpet is stored wear-free.

A smooth storage and guidance of the cord loop should be achieved and at the same time an even distribution of the tensile forces when the string carpet is tensioned can be guaranteed.

This object is achieved by a snare drum with the specified in claim 1 Features resolved.

Advantageous further developments are specified in the subclaims.

This problem is compensated for by the unequal length "cord legs" by means of rollers ( FIGS. 7 and 8). The node of the string ends is then moved to another point, namely directly between the holes of the snare-string receptacle (7) (Fig. 7 and Fig. 8). This ensures a closed knot-free circle. In the event that the original equipment consisted of tapes ( 3 ), these are replaced by cords ( 8 ). In the case of commercially available string carpets, the snare string holder ( 7 ) is provided with a slot as well as with 2 holes on each side.

On one side of the drum when the bracket ( 9 ) is viewed, rollers ( 11 ) with an internal socket are attached to the two holes of the clamping device that are already present. Both the existing threads in the holes and the screws are used again.

This special feature allows easy installation.

A collar on the socket ensures that both rollers ( 11 ) can be easily rotated when the screw is tightened. The cord ( 8 ) is now stretched over both rollers ( 11 ) and adjusted by means of a cross knot ( 10 ) on the underside of the snare string holder ( 7 ).

Here the axis angle of the rollers ( 11 ) in relation to the bracket ( 9 ) is given at 90 ° in many snare drum models.

On the side of the tensioning device ( 4 ), on the other hand, a roller ( 11 ) will now compensate for the unequal length of the line sections between the snare string holder ( 7 ) and the tensioning device ( 4 ) ( FIG. 7).

For this, component A is attached ( Fig. 1 and 2 or 4 adjustable version). It has an axial angle of the roller ( 11 ) selected depending on the drum model (here 45 °).

In the event that you want to take over the entire installation with one and the same parts on a different snare drum model, and the fixed axis angle of the roller ( 11 ) is not optimal for component A, component A is also available with an adjustable one Angle ( Fig. 4).

In both variants, as on the temple side, both threaded holes and also used the existing screws again.

The cross knot ( 10 ) on the underside of the snare string holder ( 7 ) serves as an adjustment option for the total length of the respective cord ( 8 ).

To prevent the cords ( 8 ) from jumping off the rollers ( 11 ) when the string carpet ( 1 ) is relaxed, a safety bracket ( 12 ) is fixed between the roller ( 11 ) (with the bushing inserted) and the axle bolt for each roller ( 11 ) ( Figs. 2 and 3).

This safety bracket ( 12 ) then sits directly between the collar of the socket and the square screw (axis).

The special feature of this invention is that the drum can be restored to its original condition at any time with little effort. This means that the attachment of the two rollers ( 11 ) with bushings on the side of the bracket ( 9 ) and the attachment of one roller ( 11 ) including the bushing on the side of the tensioning device ( 4 ) no damage from drilling, filing, milling or bending means.

In addition, the life span of a string carpet ( 1 ) is extended many times over.

The tension is distributed evenly over all snare strings ( 6 ).

Another significant advantage is what constitutes a snare drum, namely the quality of the sound.

It is defined solely by the resonance head ( 2 ) and the tensioned string carpet ( 1 ).
