Description
The invention relates to a function display for the selective optical display of, for example, a switching function and the associated switching state and an associated control element. These function displays are required, for example, in a multifunctional control element to visualize the switching functionalities and/or switching states associated with the control element. Electronic pixel matrix displays are regularly used for this purpose. However, these are comparatively expensive and limit the design and placement due to their usually rectangular shape. In addition, electronic pixel matrix displays often exhibit “burn-in” when displaying static display content, i.e. the display content remains permanently and undesirably visible even when the display is switched off due to visually perceptible damage to the imaging layers of the display. Furthermore, the representation takes place exclusively in a two-dimensional image plane and therefore there is a desire for a three-dimensional representation. In addition, the power consumption of such electronic pixel matrix displays is comparatively high. In certain applications, the use of conventional electronic pixel matrix displays is also prohibited due to the risk of injury, for example in the event of a head impact.

Against this background, the object of the present invention is to provide a functional display that enables a visually more attractive display, is inexpensive to produce, saves installation space, saves energy and is reliable and / or reduces the risk of injury, particularly in the event of a head impact. This task is solved by a function display of claim 1. A correspondingly advantageous control element is the subject of the independent claim. Advantageous refinements are the subject of the respective dependent claims. It should be noted that the features listed individually in the patent claims can be combined with one another in any technologically sensible manner and show further refinements of the invention. The description, particularly in connection with the figures, additionally characterizes and specifies the invention.
The invention relates to a function display for selective optical display, in particular for visualizing a switching function and the associated switching state, in particular for a motor vehicle. Selective display means the selective display of an image, which in the present solution is achieved by selective electrical current supply to a light source.
According to the invention, the function display comprises a light guide stack of at least two transparent or translucent light guides arranged superimposed in a stacking direction. The light guides are separated from each other by a transparent or translucent layer made of a material that is optically thinner compared to the material of the adjacent light guides. An air gap is preferably provided between the light guides. When the function display is arranged as intended, the light guides each have at least one main surface facing a viewer, while in the case of at least one light guide, the main surface facing away from the viewer faces a light guide that is closest adjacent in the stacking direction. The main surfaces are, for example, those surfaces of the light guide with the largest surface area. For example, the light guide is a layer or film made of a transparent or translucent plastic, preferably thermoplastic, such as polyethylene (PE), polycarbonate (PC), polystyrene (PS), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyamides (PA), acrylonitrile Butadiene styrene (ABS) or polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) or made of a glass material.
For example, at least one light guide is flat and has two opposite, preferably parallel main surfaces, which are connected via end faces that form edges common to the main surfaces of the light guide, for example on the narrow sides and on the long sides of the light guide. For example, the end faces are orthogonal to at least one main surface or both main surfaces of the light guide.
According to the invention, at least one light source is provided per light guide, which is arranged to couple light into the respective light guide via an end face of the associated light guide. The light source is, for example, a light-emitting diode, in particular one in SMD construction.
According to the invention, at least one first light guide is further provided with a light-refracting and/or light-scattering microstructuring provided in or on the first light guide, which is designed to produce a backlit first real image when the associated light source is activated, like a symbol, visible to the viewer by means of the light coupled into the light guide. The microstructuring causes light to emerge in the direction of the viewer through light refraction and/or light scattering. For example, the microstructure achieves an angle of incidence of the light on the main surface facing the viewer that does not fulfill the total reflection condition of the main surface as a boundary surface. The microstructuring, for example, reproduces the symbol positively as the first image, as its inverse representation or as its outline.
According to the invention, at least one second light guide of the light guide stack is further provided, adjacent to which a holographic image carrier containing a hologram, such as a transmission hologram or a reflection hologram, is arranged, so that when light is emitted from the light source associated with the second light guide, the light coupled into the second light guide passes through the holographic image carrier is transformed into an image wave field and the image wave field is directed towards the operator in order to display the hologram stored in the holographic image carrier to the operator as a virtual second image, which supplements and / or superimposes the first real image. For example, the first and second images complement each other to form a three-dimensional common image. For example, the first and second images border each other without an overlap or with an overlap. For example, the first and second images differ in color.
The invention is not restricted with regard to the holographic image carrier. In principle, this means any layer or layer structure that interferes with the light from the light source and is capable of impressing the image information contained in the layer on the reflected or diffracted image wave field by means of phase modulation and/or amplitude modulation through locally selective diffraction interference of the incident light. The person skilled in the art is aware that the light to be used must be adjusted to the respective holographic image carrier in a suitable manner for the reproduction of the hologram, for example with regard to spectral composition and angle of incidence, since it is an inherent prerequisite for the holographic image carrier to visualize what it contains hologram and its optical quality. It is therefore the responsibility of the specialist to take the necessary measures. In general, holograms can be divided into volume and area holograms as well as amplitude and phase holograms according to the properties of the holographic memory. Depending on the colors that occur when the hologram is reconstructed, a distinction is made between white light holograms and holograms that cannot be reconstructed under white light, as well as true-color holograms.
Bei Weißlichtreflexionshologrammen hängt deshalb die Farbe des Hologramms vom Einfallswinkel des Lichts auf den Film ab.Volume holograms, for example, are located on a film layer of the holographic image carrier, the thickness of which is also used to store holographic image information. Volume holograms can be white light holograms, because in this case there is interference that is selective for the wavelengths of the light due to the Bragg condition. Only if the Bragg equation n λ = 2d sin (α) is fulfilled can the playback wave field incident at the angle α with the wavelength λ be reflected on the film layer with the interplanar spacing d. In the case of white light reflection holograms, the color of the hologram therefore depends on the angle of incidence of the light on the film.
Amplitude holograms are located on film layers that have different levels of darkness. This changes the brightness of the transmitted light so that an image is created by superimposing the light waves with different amplitudes and phases. The film layers of the phase holograms, on the other hand, have the same transparency everywhere. The interference pattern that creates the holographic images only comes about through the different phases of the electromagnetic waves. Phase holograms can therefore be formed by surface relief, i.e. H. from a pattern of depressions and elevations. The light rays then travel different paths in the film material, which usually consists of plastic film. The light has a slower propagation speed in the film than in air, which is why different light paths traveled in the film lead to phase differences. This is where the interference in phase holograms is based. Phase holograms are often embossed holograms in which the depressions are pressed into the material with a stamp; However, depressions can also arise with special films due to different exposure. In addition to the possibility of phase modulation through surface relief, a phase hologram can be achieved through local modulation of the refractive index such as. B. can be produced in silver halide films. The preceding statements serve to provide the person skilled in the art with a non-exhaustive number of possible embodiments according to the invention relating to the holographic image carrier.
According to a preferred embodiment using a transmission hologram, the light generated by the light source coupled into the second light guide reaches the holographic from the light entry surface due to light propagation caused by internal reflections, preferably total reflections, in the second light guide Image carrier, which is arranged adjacent to the main surface of the second light guide facing the viewer and is coupled into the holographic image carrier via the common interface, is there preferably transformed by phase and / or amplitude interference from the light into an image wave field containing the transmission hologram as image information, which is coupled out of the holographic image carrier in the direction of the operator and projected through the first light guide in order to display the transmission hologram stored in the first holographic image carrier to the operator as a virtual image. The transmission hologram preferably visually symbolizes an acute switching state of a switching function symbolized by the first image. The holographically generated image particularly preferably “floats” above the surface. This means that the switching status is particularly well perceived by the operator.
From the viewer's perspective, the second light guide is preferably arranged under the first light guide, with the holographic image carrier being arranged between the first light guide and the second light guide.
The solution according to the invention allows a control element with an associated function display to be implemented in a space-saving manner, which selectively displays at least a first image, such as a symbol, by activating a light source. In order to save space, an additional second image can be integrated into the holographic image carrier and remains reliably invisible to the viewer even when exposed to extraneous light, so that incorrect information can be largely avoided. By selectively activating the associated light sources, different switching functions and also their switching states can be visualized comparatively easily. The function display is simple and cost-effective to implement and gives the designer a great deal of creative freedom when it comes to the placement of the function display. The function display shows almost no signs of aging caused by light radiation and is comparatively energy-saving.
Bevorzugt beträgt die Anzahldichte der Mikrostrukturen im mikrostrukturierten Bereich 1.000 bis 2.000 pro mm2.The microstructuring is preferably formed from a plurality of uniformly formed microstructures which define a microstructured region of the first light guide. The number density of the microstructures in the microstructured area is preferably 1,000 to 2,000 per mm 2 .
The microstructures each preferably have a diameter that is in the range from 1 to 25 μm.
The microstructures in the microstructured area preferably have an average distance which is in the range from 25 µm to 55 µm in order to ensure sufficient light transmission on the one hand and on the other hand to allow the microstructures to almost optically disappear when the light source of the first light guide is inactivated.
The microstructuring can be introduced into the light guide by laser ablation, for example three-dimensionally by vitrography, also referred to as internal laser engraving, or applied to one of its main surfaces. The microstructuring is preferably formed by embossing one of the main surfaces of the first light guide, whereby the functional display can be implemented cost-effectively.
Preferably, the surface area of all microstructured areas of the first light guide on the main surface facing the viewer is less than 50%, preferably less than 30%. This means the remaining part can be used for other purposes, such as ambient lighting. All light guides outside the microstructured area are preferably transparent, so that a large part of the display area remains transparent and, for example, visibility through the functional display is ensured in order to give the viewer the opportunity to follow other displays, instruments or the course of the road through the functional display . This makes it possible, for example, to place the function display on a steering wheel, for example in the area between the steering wheel hub and the steering wheel rim, without impairing the view of the dashboard.
In order to save installation space and minimize the risk of injury, the light guides are preferably each formed by a film, for example a plastic film, such as a PC film or PE film.
One or more optical elements, such as a lens, are preferably provided for collimating the light coupled into the first light guide and/or second light guide.
According to the invention, an opaque diaphragm extends in areas between the first light guide and the second light guide, starting from the first end face, in order to prevent the passage of light to further light guides in addition to the assigned light guide. According to the invention, an opaque layer is applied to areas of the light guide on the opposite end face in order to minimize back reflections into the respective light guide.
In order to save installation space, at least one of the first is according to a preferred embodiment The end faces of one of the light guides of the light guide stack are arranged offset to the rear from the viewer's perspective. For example, the first light guide and/or second light guide have a substantially L-shaped cross section, with the main surface facing the viewer on one leg and the first end face intended for light entry on the remaining other leg of the first, which is L-shaped in cross section or second light guide is formed.
According to the invention, the light guides of the light guide stack are embedded in a common carrier in order to permanently fix the first and second light guides and their relative arrangement relationship. According to the invention, the aperture and the opaque layer are part of this carrier, which frames the light guides and stabilizes their relative arrangement relationship.
An outer, transparent or translucent cover layer is preferably provided, which covers the light guide stack and forms a contact surface facing the viewer or, beyond that, an actuation surface.
The invention further relates to a control element which has the function display in one of the previously described embodiments. The control element has, for example, a foot for fixing the control element on a vehicle component, such as on a dashboard, on a panel of a passenger cell or in particular on a steering wheel of a motor vehicle. The control element according to the invention, for example, further has a control part that defines a control surface and is designed as at least one self-supporting lever arm. The self-supporting lever arm is, for example, mounted on one side by means of a solid-state joint on the foot in order to enable the control part to be pivoted about an imaginary pivot axis against a restoring force relative to the foot when an operating force acting perpendicularly on the operating surface is applied. For example, means are also provided to detect a pivoting dimension between the control panel and the foot. A solid-state joint generally refers to an area of a component that allows pivoting between two rigid body areas by bending. The solid-state joint ensures that the control unit is mounted on the base without play and therefore without rattling. For example, the base and control panel are made of a thermoplastic such as polyethylene (PE), polycarbonate (PC), polystyrene (PS), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyamide (PA), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) or polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). The control element according to the invention is particularly suitable for those configurations in which the maximum pivoting dimension about the imaginary pivot axis from the unactuated rest position to the actuated maximum pivoting position is less than 10°, preferably less than 5°.
