Description
The invention relates to a method for producing a high-strength or ultra-high-strength and, if necessary, additionally hardened, martensitic or bainitic component according to the preamble of claim 1 and such a component according to claim 8. The component can be produced in particular from a component blank which made using a 3D printing process. The component can also be martensitic or bainitic tempered in a further tempering process to achieve even higher strength.
In vehicle construction, connecting elements such as rods, mandrels, screws or the like are provided, which are prefabricated from a steel substrate, such as wire material, in a cold forming process, ie a cold drawing process or a cold flow process. The prefabricated connecting elements are then tempered to a corresponding strength class.
A generic method relates to the production of a high-strength or extremely high-strength, hardened, martensitic or also bainitic component from a hardenable steel substrate. If the component to be produced is a screw, the hardenable steel substrate is a carbon-containing steel wire section. The method has a shaping process step in which a still unhardened component blank is prefabricated from the steel substrate. This is followed by a heat treatment process step in which hardening takes place, during which the component blank is heated to above the material-specific austenitization temperature and is then quenched and, if necessary, then tempered. The procedure for the bainitic treatment is similar.
Especially with such a high-strength or ultra-high-strength component, there is a risk of hydrogen embrittlement in the application, in which hydrogen from a hydrogen-containing environment diffuses into the material of the martensitic/bainitic component and collects at the grain boundaries of the component structure. If the component is exposed to high tensile stress, there is a risk of brittle fracture, which leads to early component failure. Against this background, it is necessary in the state of the art when using such a high-strength or ultra-high-strength component in a hydrogen-containing environment to provide the component with extremely stable corrosion protection in a manner that is complex in terms of production technology in order to prevent hydrogen diffusion into the material of the martensitic/bainitic component to avoid.
The object of the invention is to provide a method for producing a high-strength or ultra-high-strength, hardened, martensitic or bainitic component in which the risk of brittle fracture is reduced or prevented in a simple manner compared to the prior art.
The object is solved by the features of claim 1 or 8. Preferred developments of the invention are disclosed in the dependent claims.
The invention is based on a method for producing a high-strength or extremely high-strength, hardened, martensitic or bainitic component that is made from a hardenable steel substrate. The method has a shaping process step in which a still unhardened component blank is prefabricated from the steel substrate. This is followed by a heat treatment process step in which the component blank is heated to above the material-specific austenitization temperature and then quenched and then optionally tempered.
The invention relates to the fact that the steel substrate provided in the conventional method, ie for example a wire material, has a comparatively coarse-grained microstructure. Accordingly, the finished martensitic or bainitic component only has a fine-grained martensitic/bainitic microstructure (up to ASTM 10). The invention is based on the finding that, especially with such a fine-grained martensitic or bainitic microstructure, a grain boundary softening mechanism of hydrogen embrittlement comes into play, in which hydrogen accumulates or docks at the grain boundaries and thereby causes a grain boundary separation that makes the component more susceptible to brittle fracture.
Against this background, according to the characterizing part of claim 1, the following measure is provided to avoid hydrogen embrittlement in the hardened component: The steel substrate is no longer provided as wire material or the like in the coloring process, but rather in powder form. The shaping process according to the invention is not more of a cold forming process, but rather a selective laser melting process. The component blank produced in the laser melting process therefore has such a fine, microscopically smallest microstructure and such extremely fine grains (compared to a conventional component blank) that these can no longer be measured or evaluated using light-microscopic metallographic examination methods. These can only be determined by X-ray, for example using an EBSD method.
According to the invention, it was recognized that the grain boundary softening mechanism of hydrogen embrittlement in the extremely fine martensitic microstructure in the finished component no longer comes into play. The individual grain boundary surfaces of the fine grains of the microscopically smallest microstructure result in such a large overall grain boundary surface that hydrogen diffusing into the martensitic component is distributed over the grain boundaries in such a large dilution that a grain boundary separation and therefore a Brittle fracture risk is prevented.
In the selective laser melting process, the component blank is manufactured in a 3D printing process in a powder bed layered manner. Each powder layer is selectively melted using a laser device. This cycle is repeated until all layers are melted. The finished component blank is cleaned of excess powder and then fed into the heat treatment process step.
With selective laser melting, the material to be processed is applied in powder form in a thin layer to a base plate of a powder bed. The powdery material is locally completely melted by means of laser radiation and forms a solid material layer after solidification. The base plate is then lowered by the amount of one layer thickness and another layer of powder is applied. This cycle is repeated until all layers are selectively melted. The material can already be used in this production status - i.e. "as printed" - but can also be additionally tempered and tempered if necessary.
In one embodiment variant, a coating process step can also take place after the heat treatment process step. The coating can be a cathodic surface protection that is applied to the component in a hydrogen-containing immersion bath. In contrast to the prior art, the risk of hydrogen embrittlement is reduced or completely avoided in spite of the hydrogen-containing environment in the immersion bath due to the inventive fine-grain microstructure of the component.
An exemplary embodiment of the invention is described below with reference to the figure.
In order to further increase the strength properties, a heat treatment process step II (martensitic or bainitic tempering) can be carried out if necessary, in which the component blank 15 is heated in a
In comparison to a conventional shaping process step (ie cold forming process), the component blank 15 and thus the hardened
After the heat treatment process step II, a coating process step III can take place. In the coating process III, the cathodic surface protection 1 is applied to the
Alternative coatings of the component, for example zinc flake coatings, could also be used if it is necessary or useful for the application.
