Abstract

A tape unwinding device (1') for an adhesive tape comprises a base body (2a, 2b). An exchangeable wiper element (7), preferably a brush element, is attached to the outside of the base body (2a, 2b), with which the adhesive tape applied to an object can be wiped off. Conventional tape unwinding devices (1') can be retrofitted with a wiper attachment (10, 10"), preferably a brush or roller element attachment. However, the wiper element can also be connected directly to a base body or attached thereto.

Description

The present invention relates to a tape unwinding device for an adhesive tape with a base body in or on which an unrollable adhesive tape is mounted, the base body having an outside.

Tape dispensers of this type, often also referred to as "tape dispensers", are used to apply adhesive tape wound on a roll to an object such as a parcel, a parcel, a moving box or the like in order to seal the object, e.g. for postage. The adhesive tape is usually made of plastic film, e.g. polyvinyl chloride or polypropylene, and is coated with pressure-sensitive adhesive on at least one side. However, there are also adhesive tapes that are coated on both sides, with one side often being covered by a non-adhesive film that is removed after the other side has been applied. These are used, for example, when laying carpets. Materials other than those mentioned can also be used for the adhesive tape itself, for example tapes reinforced with fabric can withstand greater stresses, or masking tapes can be used for painting work.

The tape dispenser itself keeps the adhesive tape rotatable and unrollable. The adhesive tape can be stored, for example, in a housing or a base body; this is often the case with hand dispensers such as packet tape dispensers. Alternatively, the rolled-up adhesive tape can also be mounted outside the base body, e.g. on an arm protruding from it. Such embodiments often also include a grab handle. Tape dispensers form an intermediate form in which the base body is designed as a semi-open housing from which the roll of adhesive tape protrudes.

Some tape dispensers also have a cutting or tear-off edge or another type of cutting or tear-off device with which the adhesive tape can be separated after it has been applied, e.g. in the form of a serrated blade strip. However, such a configuration is not mandatory.

The present invention relates to all of these configurations of tape dispensers and adhesive tapes. However, one of their main applications is in hand dispensers for package tapes with a largely closed base body (in which the roll of adhesive tape is mounted) with a preferably rounded or circular profile, even if this application is not mandatory.

A problem with such tape dispensers is that the adhesive tape applied to the object often does not adhere sufficiently to the object, especially when it is stretched from one edge of a package to the next edge and the surface in between is curved inwards (concave). As a result, the tape will not adhere well to the surface, which may go unnoticed by the user. The bond is then incomplete and comes off easily, so that the security of the bond and thus the packaging of the entire package is called into question.

To solve this problem, the invention proposes attaching a wiper element directly or indirectly to the outside of the base body of the tape unwinding device. After the adhesive tape has been unrolled on the package or other object, the exposed side of the adhesive tape can then be wiped off with the wiping element and thus pressed or rubbed more firmly onto the object. Preferably this is done after the adhesive tape has been severed from the roll, but this is not essential. The "exposed side" of the adhesive tape means the side facing away from the object, i.e. the non-adhesive side in the case of adhesive tape coated on one side and the side of the adhesive tape still covered by a protective film (which is removed later) in the case of adhesive tape coated on two sides.

With this device and the corresponding application method, it can be ensured that the adhesive tape is connected more intimately to the surface of the object without damage or other disadvantageous impairment, ie the adhesive adhesion is significantly improved and also becomes more durable. In the case of a parcel strap, secure packaging is achieved that is reliable even if the parcel is handled roughly by delivery services and distribution centers.

Another advantage of the device according to the invention and the method used in its application is that the surface of the adhesive tape is smoothed by wiping with the wiping element. It is known that when an adhesive tape is applied, creases often form in the tape, which can be leveled out by wiping with the wiping element, especially if the adhesive tape is not yet intimately connected to the object. The surface of the adhesive tape is therefore smoothed, which not only has optical advantages, but also makes it easier to process the package or other object mechanically, for example in sorting or distribution machines. Such machines often have optical sensors that are used for size detection and/or for reading address labels or barcodes. In tape Any folds that occur can then cause errors in the recognition or reading of information due to reflections or scattering of the incident light. This disadvantage is avoided or at least significantly reduced by using the wiper element according to the invention and the associated smoothing of the adhesive tape surface.

The scraping element is preferably a brush or a brush element. There are also other configurations in question, such as a scraper, a block or the like. However, a brush element has the advantage that the individual fibers of the brush trimming adapt optimally to the surface of the adhesive tape and thus a particularly intimate bond is achieved; at the same time, the surface of the adhesive tape is treated gently.

The use of brushes in tape unwinding devices is known per se from the prior art, but not in the arrangement according to the invention and not with the effects achieved by it. In the U.S. 2,629,358 For example, brushes are used to moisten a rubberized belt. In the U.S. 4,860,159 Brushes are used to remove static electrical charges from the surface of a tape or film.

In a further preferred embodiment, the scraping element is a rolling element such as a pressure roller. This makes smoothing out the adhesive tape particularly easy and pleasant, especially since the angle at which the pressure roller is placed is practically no longer important. Rolling on the adhesive tape is also very pleasant to the touch, especially if the pressure roller is provided with a corresponding coating, such as rubber, polyurethane, caoutchouc, PVC, silicone, etc. All common methods such as foaming, vulcanization, etc. can be used to apply such a coating.

The wiping element can be connected directly to the base body, specifically by means of a fixed or also a detachable connection. In a preferred embodiment, the brush element or roller element, or more generally the wiper element, is detachably, i.e. replaceably, attached to the outside of the main body of the tape unwinding device. The brush can then be easily replaced when it shows signs of wear or becomes dirty.

There is also the possibility of retrofitting a tape unwinding device known from the prior art with a wiper attachment. It is particularly favorable if the brush attachment consists of an elastic material (for example plastic) and can be attached to the base body, preferably snapped onto it. The wiper attachment can have connecting elements such as elastic arms, which are used for the positive or non-positive connection to the base body of the known tape unwinding device. Fastening is particularly easy when the base body has an essentially rounded profile.

There are various advantageous options for attaching the wiping element to the base body or the wiping attachment, e.g. a fixed connection (integration with the base body or the wiping attachment). However, if a detachable connection is chosen, this is preferably a form-fitting connection. For example, the base body or the squeegee attachment can have retaining elements, preferably projecting retaining plates or a holder, in which case the wiping element can advantageously also have one or more grooves or indentations into which projections or snap-in noses intervene. This arrangement can of course also be reversed, with the grooves in the holding plate and the projections on the scraper element. Both versions are useful, among other things, when the holding plate(s) are made of elastic material, since the wiping element can then be easily snapped in or pushed in. Snap devices can also be used in general; For example, resilient tongues can be attached to a holding plate or holder, which have projecting lugs which engage in corresponding depressions of the wiping element and secure it in several coordinate directions.

Elastic arms of the wiper attachment can be snapped onto the base body in a particularly simple manner if the base body has a substantially rounded profile.

If the tape unwinding device is provided with a severing or cutting device for the adhesive tape, the wiper element can be arranged in the circumferential direction of the base body at an angular distance of less than 180°, preferably 90°, from the severing or cutting device. The wiping element is then not far away from the separating or cutting device, so that the tape unwinding device only has to be tilted slightly if the adhesive tape is to be wiped off after it has been applied.

Another object of the present invention is the wiping element itself. It comprises at least one holding element for the wiping element and connecting elements for positively connecting the wiping attachment to the base body, preferably elastic arms that enclose the base body. The holding element or the holder can then have at least one elastic tongue with a projecting snap-in lug which engages in a depression in the wiping element.

In the 1 a tape unwinding device is denoted by 1 as a whole. This is a manual dispenser for an adhesive package tape, which is coated on one side in the exemplary embodiment shown. The part 2b of the body is, as from the 1 visible, made much wider than the part 2a; the two parts are therefore asymmetrical. In the embodiment of 4 (along with the associated bottom-up view 5 and the side view 6 ) the brush element 7 is not firmly connected to the base body. On the contrary, outwardly projecting holding plates 6a, 6b are integrally formed on the base body. Since the base body is constructed in two parts, the retaining plates can easily be integrated in the injection molding process without any further processing step. Both retaining plates 6a and 6b are preferably molded onto the wider part 2b of the base body, so that the two parts of the base body can be easily separated, for example when a roll of adhesive tape is to be replaced.

A brush element 7 is inserted or snapped in between the holding plates 6a, 6b. As in the previous exemplary embodiment, this brush element is covered with fiber bundles 8 made of plastic fibers. The brush element 7 has at its longitudinal side grooves 9a, 9b, into which projections of the holding plates 6a, 6b can engage. When the brush element is pushed in or snapped in place, it can be easily removed, for example when the brush needs to be replaced due to wear or dirt, possibly also when the body parts 2a, 2b need to be separated to replace the roll of tape. The brush element 7 can, however, also be held between the holding plates 6a, 6b in a non-positive manner instead of in a form-fitting manner.

The other elements of 4 until 6 correspond to the embodiment of 1 until 3 and are therefore not explained again.

A modification of the embodiment of 4 until 6 is in the 7 until 9 shown. The brush element can also be removed in this embodiment. However, it is no longer pushed into holding elements via grooves, but snapped into a snap-in frame 15 . Instead of attaching the wiper or brush element directly to the hand-held dispenser or integrating it with it, it can be extremely advantageous to instead provide a separate attachment that can be attached to an already existing hand-held dispenser. The existing manual dispenser can therefore be retrofitted with a wiper or brush element.

Such an alternative embodiment is in the 10 until 12 shown, with the same reference numbers as in FIGS 1 until 3 were used and reference symbols with an apostrophe for modified elements. In this embodiment, as already mentioned, it is a question of retrofitting a brush element to an already known manual dispenser for adhesive package tape. For this purpose, a wiper or brush attachment 10 with elastic arms 11a, 11b is snapped onto the base body 2a, 2b of the tape unwinding device 1'. The elastic arms have cutouts 12a, 12b to increase the elasticity and to save material. The brush element 7 is constructed in the same or a similar way as in the first embodiment, but is now not attached to the base body but to the brush attachment 10, ie connected to it, integrated or the like. It is therefore also not necessary for the parts 2a' and 2b' of the main body to have different widths as in the previous embodiments; it is possible to choose such a design, but not mandatory. The embodiment of 10 until 12 therefore shows parts 2a' and 2b' of the base body of equal width.

Further alternative embodiments of the invention are in the 27 until 33 shown. In these embodiments, the scraping element is implemented by a rolling element, here a pressure roller 19 . Claims (15)
