Abstract
Due to the presence of volatile components from the synthesis processes and from the formulation with additives during processing and use, many plastics have an odor that is perceived as unpleasant or undesirable in selected areas of application, such as in the interior of vehicles or rooms. This applies in particular to plastic recyclates, which contain a particularly high proportion of odor-causing substances due to the aging process and contamination from the first use, e.g. as packaging material for food, or can form during normal processing through thermal processes. Other examples of odor-causing ingredients in plastics are degradation products from formulation components or fillers or fibers from natural materials. In order to expand the possible uses of the odorous plastics described and their markets, there is therefore a desire to develop methods which bring about a significant reduction in the perceptible odor.
Description
Due to the presence of volatile components from the synthesis processes and from the formulation with additives during processing and use, many plastics have an odor that is perceived as unpleasant or undesirable in selected areas of use, such as in the interior of vehicles or rooms. This applies in particular to plastic recyclates, which contain a particularly high proportion of odour-causing substances due to the aging process and contamination from the first use, e.g. as packaging material for food, or can form during normal processing through thermal processes. Other examples of odor-causing ingredients in plastics are degradation products from formulation components or fillers or fibers from natural materials. In order to expand the possible uses of the odorous plastics described and their markets, there is therefore a desire to develop methods which bring about a significant reduction in the perceptible odor.
However, the known methods for reducing odors do not meet all requirements, in particular they lead to a slowdown in the process and/or a high energy input ("entrainer") or to high additive concentrations that are required, which either affect the plastic properties and/or are uneconomical.
The object of the present invention was therefore to provide a composite component and a method for its production which enables reliable odor reduction of plastic parts, is advantageous in terms of the process and is economically viable.
This object is achieved with the features of patent claim 1 with regard to a composite component, with the features of patent claim 19 with regard to a method for producing the composite component according to the invention. The respective dependent patent claims represent advantageous developments.
The invention thus relates to a composite component comprising a core and at least one layer enclosing the core, comprising a first composite containing or consisting of at least one thermoplastic polymer and at least one odor-reducing additive.
Composite components are obtained which have a reduced odor or lower amounts of volatile components, which opens up broader areas of application. At the same time, economic advantages can be obtained through the use of small amounts of additives.
An odor-reducing additive is understood according to the invention as meaning in particular an additive which, when stored at 80° C., improves the odor by at least two values on a scale from 1 to 10 compared to a pure core material without the corresponding additive, with a value of 1 being one imperceptible smell and a value of 10 corresponds to a very strong smell.
The odors are determined and evaluated as described in Kunststoffe 8/2018, p. 81 ff.
The measurement given above can be carried out, for example, as follows: 3% by weight of the odor-reducing additive is introduced into the layer enclosing the core, which is made 220-350 μm thick at the thinnest point measured. The samples are stored for 8 weeks at 80°C in metal-coated bags. At intervals of 1 week, the smell of the plates was checked by 3 people are evaluated in relation to the release of the recyclate smell - the mean value of the 3 evaluations is formed here - and assigned to the scale.
The necessary amount of odor reducing additive used depends on the chemical structure, the layer thickness of the layer enclosing the core, the proportion of volatile odor-producing components in the core, the ratio of core to enclosing layer and the desired odor improvement.
For example, the layer thickness of the layer enclosing the core can be 50 μm to 1 cm, preferably 100 μm to 2 mm, it being essential that the composite is completely enclosed. Furthermore, it is possible that due to the molded part construction, the layer thickness of the enclosing layer can have a different thickness. For economic reasons, the enclosing layer is chosen to be as thin as possible in relation to the core.
The dimensions of the core can be, for example, 100 µm, e.g., in the form of a foil, up to 1 dm, e.g., in the form of a profile, depending on the application.
In the case of a core material with a strong odor and a large layer thickness, a thicker layer enclosing the core is preferably selected, while a correspondingly thin enclosing layer is selected in the case of small dimensions of the core, such as a film.
A high concentration of additives in the enclosing layer is preferably selected for a core that is more odor-prone.
For example, it has been shown that a core made of a highly odor-prone recyclate from packaging applications with a thickness of 3 mm and an enclosing layer with a minimum layer thickness of 220 µm at an additive concentration of 3% enables the odor to be improved by 8 levels.

It is particularly preferred here if the second composite contains a plastic recyclate or is formed from it. The second composite particularly preferably consists entirely of a recyclate. According to the present invention, a plastic recyclate is a plastic recyclate according to the conceptual definition according to the standard DIN EN 15347:2007. There are also relevant international standards for many types of plastic recyclates. DIN EN 15353:2007, for example, is relevant for PET plastic recyclates. PS recyclates are described in more detail in DIN EN 15342:2008. PE recyclates are dealt with in DIN EN 15344:2008. PP recyclates are characterized in DIN EN 15345:2008. For the purpose of the corresponding special plastic recyclates, the present patent application adopts the definitions of these international standards as its own.
Degr. Stab. 2009, 94, 410-420 beschrieben ist. Hierbei erfolgt eine Messung der Absorption der Carbonylschwingung im Bereich von 1720 cm-1.In contrast to new plastics, plastic recyclates usually show previous damage, ie new chemical groups are generated on the polymer chain by oxidative or (photo)oxidative processes. In the case of polyolefins, for example, these are predominantly carbonyl groups, which are not present in new goods or are only present to a very small extent. The concentration of the carbonyl groups is therefore at the same time a measure of the pre-damage of the polymer. The concentration of carbonyl groups can be determined by known analytical methods, such as infrared spectroscopy, as described, for example, in E. Richaud et al. Pole. degr. Rod. 2009, 94, 410-420. Here, the absorption of the carbonyl vibrations is measured in the range of 1720 cm -1 .
It is also advantageous if the plastic recyclate from recyclable material collections from industry, commerce or consumers, such as from packaging, for example flexible packaging such as foils or bags, rigid packaging such as cups or containers, transport containers such as barrels or boxes, automotive parts such as bumpers, battery boxes, trim parts, wheel trims, fiber waste such as carpets and/or E+E scrap.
Hierbei kann das Kunststoffrecyclat Fasern aus Cellulose, Hanf, Jute, Sisal, Kenaf, Flachs, Bambus, Baumwolle, Raffia und/oder Füllstoffe wie z.B. Holzmehl enthalten. The plastic recyclate can contain fibers made from cellulose, hemp, jute, sisal, kenaf, flax, bamboo, cotton, raffia and/or fillers such as wood flour.
In addition, the core can also comprise the at least one odor-reducing additive of the layer enclosing the core. This odor-reducing additive can, for example, be added to the core before the production of the composite component according to the invention or to the materials from which the core is formed.
However, it is also possible for the core to be free of odor-reducing additives.
For example, the core can contain odorous substances which can be encapsulated and thus enclosed by applying the at least one layer enclosing the core.
For example, the core can be in the form of a solid body, a film, a foam or a hollow body.
Das Kompositbauteil gemäß der vorliegenden Erfindung kann insbesondere in Form eines Spritzgussteils, Schaums; Rohrs, Profils, Hohlkörpers, Bändchen, die über Extrusion, Spritzguss, Blasformen z.B. für die Elektro- und Elektronikindustrie, Bauindustrie, Transportindustrie (Auto, Flugzeug, Schiff, Bahn), eines Haushalts- und Elektrogeräts, Fahrzeugteils, Konsumartikels, einer Verpackung, eines Möbels vorliegen oder einen Bestandteil hiervon bildet. The composite component according to the present invention can in particular be in the form of an injection molded part, foam; Pipes, profiles, hollow bodies, tapes, which are produced via extrusion, injection molding, blow molding, e.g. for the electrical and electronics industry, construction industry, transport industry (car, aircraft, ship, train), a household and electrical appliance, vehicle part, consumer item, packaging, a Furniture are present or forms part thereof.

Sandwichspritzguss / Zweikomponenten-SpritzgießenSandwich injection molding / two-component injection molding
For the production of sandwich panels, which consist of a core (core) and an outer layer (skin) surrounding the core, a Ferromatik K110 from Milacron was used in combination with a sandwich intermediate panel from A&E, Dresden for timing the material injection and an IKP sandwich panel mold -Tact 150 × 150 × 3 mm 3 used. The recycled PP, which forms the material of the core, was fed via the horizontal main unit (unit 1) and virgin PP or the previously produced PP virgin material compounds, which form the core-enclosing material, were fed via the vertical unit ( Aggregate 2) processed.
Tabelle 2: Hergestellte Sandwichspritzgussplatten.
Bewertung der GeruchsemissionEvaluation of the odor emission
During storage, the compositions or composites according to the invention show significantly reduced odor development compared to the comparative examples, i.e. a better rating.
