Description
The invention relates to a periscope device. In general, periscope devices are optical systems that allow a look around the corner. Thus, a desired object such as an object, an animal or a person can be observed from a cover. Periscope devices include, for example, a tube at the two openings of which mirrors or prisms are arranged. The mirrors or prisms are arranged at the two openings in such a way that light rays running perpendicular to the tube are directed from the object to be observed into the tube and offset parallel to the original direction of incidence of the light out again. The light is coupled in at a first opening in the tube and decoupled again at a second opening in the tube. An observer who then looks into the second opening of the periscope device, for example, can thus observe the object without being in the direct field of view of the object. Instead of a periscope device, other optical systems such as mirrors, cameras and light guides can also be used as a spying aid.
A disadvantage of the existing optical systems is that they are easy to recognize or discover.

The invention is therefore based on the object of minimizing the risk of discovery when observing from cover.
The object is achieved by the subjects of the independent claims. Advantageous developments of the invention are disclosed by the dependent claims, the following description and the figures.
The invention provides a periscope device. The periscope device comprises a carrier medium, which is designed as a light guide, with a coupling-in area and a coupling-out area, which are formed at a predetermined distance from one another. The coupling area is designed as a holographic element with a first predetermined diffraction structure which is designed to diffract light with at least one wavelength that falls on the first diffraction structure in such a way that the light is coupled into the carrier medium. The carrier medium is in turn designed to transmit the coupled-in light from the coupling-in area to the coupling-out area. The coupling-out area is also designed as a holographic element with a second predetermined diffraction structure which is designed to diffract the transmitted light that falls on the second diffraction structure in such a way that the light is coupled out of the carrier medium. It is essential that the periscope device is transparent.
The invention is based on the knowledge that with holographic elements (holographic-optical element, for short: HOE), light can be directed through the physical effect of diffraction, comparable to that of mirrors, lenses or prisms. However, HOEs can be transparent, for example as a transparent film. The transparent HOE can then be arranged, for example, on a likewise transparent substrate or carrier medium, so that a completely transparent periscope device is created.
This has the advantage that a non-transparent carrier medium, such as a Tube, for providing a periscope device, can be avoided, and thus the overall risk of discovery is minimized. As a result, a safe and difficult to discover observation around obstacles or through gaps or from a cover can be made possible overall. In addition, there is also the advantage that, in contrast to a periscope device with mirrors, back reflection can be avoided. The direction of observation is therefore only unidirectional. This means that only the observer can see the object to be observed, but not the other way around.
Holographic elements (holographic-optical elements, short: HOE) are optical components that can bring about a direction of light through the physical effect of diffraction, as is known, for example, from mirrors, lenses or prisms. HOEs can preferably be designed as volume holograms (volume holographic grating, or VHG for short). The light is guided by a diffraction structure of the HOE. If light or light rays fall on the diffraction structure, with the incident light rays in particular satisfying the Bragg equation, the light rays are namely deflected by the diffraction structure. HOEs and in particular also VHGs are selective with regard to a wavelength and an angle of the incident light. For example, the diffraction structure can be designed such that only light of one wavelength is deflected. Light rays that have a different wavelength, on the other hand, are not deflected and can thus propagate through the HOE unhindered. Analogously to this, the diffraction structure can also be designed to deflect light only in a very narrow angular range with a delta of approximately ± 1 degree. This means that only light rays are diffracted which hit the HOE from a certain direction, i.e. in a certain angular range. Instead of just one diffraction structure, an HOE can also have several different diffraction structures. Thus, in a HOE, light beams of different wavelengths, which in particular strike the HOE at different angles of incidence, can be deflected by the respective diffraction structure.
Photosensitive glass, refractive crystals, polymers, in particular photopolymers and, for example, quartz glass, are particularly suitable as materials for HOEs. Thus, HOEs can in particular also be transparent. The diffraction structure, that is to say the optical properties, in particular the angle- or wavelength-selective diffraction of light rays, can be impressed into the HOE by means of thermal treatment or exposure. In addition to the angle of incidence, a diffraction angle, also called a Bragg angle, in which the light is diffracted by the diffraction structure, can also be defined by the exposure.
At the molecular level, HOEs can comprise individual molecular structures called monomers. The monomers can have wavelength-selective and thus color-selective components, that is to say dye components, which can be formed, for example, by exposing the monomers to light. If light with a certain wavelength, which corresponds to the color-selective component of the monomer, falls on the HOE, the monomers can be activated. For example, a double bond of the dye portion of the monomer can be excited so that the monomers in the HOE couple to one another. The monomers polymerize. The polymerization results in an enlargement of the structure at the molecular level, so that a refractive index of the HOE changes. Due to the changed refractive index, light of the specified wavelength can now be diffracted at the diffraction structure.
In the case of the periscope device according to the invention, the HOE and the carrier medium can, for example, be designed separately or as a common component. For example, the HOE can be in the form of a holographic film as a polymer, in particular a photopolymer, whereas the carrier material is in the form of a glass plate, for example. The HOE can then be attached directly to the carrier medium. For example, the HOE can be designed similarly to an adhesive film, so that sticking to the carrier medium by means of the HOE can be avoided. Alternatively, the HOE and the carrier medium can also be glued together using an adhesive.
In contrast to this, the periscope device can also be formed from just one material, namely the carrier medium. The holographic element can then be formed directly in the carrier medium, so that the diffraction structure can be impressed directly into the molecular structure of the carrier medium, for example by exposure. In the present invention, the respective holographic element, that is to say the coupling-in area and the coupling-out area, can thus be part of the carrier medium. In other words, the first and second diffraction structures can be formed directly in different sections of the carrier medium. For example, quartz glass can be used as a carrier medium. Quartz glass has the advantage that it is also suitable as a light guide, so that light can be guided by means of reflection, in particular by means of total reflection at the interfaces of the light guide. The quartz glass can for example be thermally treated with a laser in such a way that the desired diffraction structure results in the quartz glass. Thereby the refractive index can be changed in predetermined sections of the quartz glass. Consequently, the carrier medium itself can comprise sections which are designed as a holographic element.
In the present invention, the periscope device has two diffraction structures, namely the coupling-in area and the coupling-out area. The two diffraction structures can be provided either in a common HOE or in two separately designed HOEs. Regardless of the design of the HOE, however, the coupling-in area and the coupling-out area are at a predetermined distance from one another. This is because an optical axis of the observer's line of sight is offset by the predetermined distance. A first optical axis results from the direct line of sight from the object to be observed to the coupling area. A second optical axis results from the line of sight, offset by the periscope device, from the coupling-out area to the observer.
The light thus falls on the coupling area via the first optical axis and is coupled into the carrier medium by the first diffraction structure. The light can then be guided from the coupling-in area to the coupling-out area by means of total reflection in the carrier medium and finally decoupled from the carrier medium via a second optical axis through the coupling-out area. The observer can perceive a two-dimensional representation or an image of the object to be observed over the coupling-out area.
Due to the offset of the second optical axis from the first optical axis, a distance to the object to be observed can also be estimated in an advantageous manner by means of the periscope device. If both lines of sight, the direct one via the first optical axis and the offset one via the second optical axis, can capture the object, a distance to the targeted, i.e. the object to be observed, can be determined via triangulation. The periscope device can be coupled, for example, in connection with an existing system for distance measurement. An output of the distance measurement, that is to say the measured distance, can then be displayed, for example, in a display device. Alternatively, the measured distance can then also be made available for further actions, such as for determining a focus.
The respective holographic element is particularly preferably designed in such a way that more than one predetermined wavelength can be diffracted at the diffraction structure.
In addition, a side or surface of the carrier medium opposite the coupling-out region in the viewing direction of an observer, in particular a section of this side, can preferably be designed to be light-impermeable or light-tight. This side or surface can also be referred to as the rear side of the carrier medium. The rear side or a section of the rear side which is opposite the coupling-out area and at least partially overlaps with the coupling-out area can thus be designed to be opaque. For example, the back or the section can be painted and / or glued. The coating or the sticker can in particular be embodied as a dark or black coating or sticker. It can thus be prevented that ambient light which can transmit from the rear through the coupling-out area influences an image of the object to be observed in the coupling-out area that is visible to the observer. The observer can perceive the clearest possible image of the object even in particularly bright surroundings.
Advantageously, the side or surface of the carrier medium opposite the coupling-out region in the viewing direction of the observer, in particular the section of this side, can be designed to be switchably opaque. Thus, for example, the opposite surface can be opaque in a first state and transparent in a second state different from the first state. In the first state, the light coupled in via the coupling-in area can thus be passed on to the coupling-out area via the carrier medium. In the second state, on the other hand, transmission of the light via the carrier medium can be avoided. Instead, the observer can be given a direct light beam through the carrier medium to the object to be observed. A change from the first state to the second state and vice versa can in particular be provided by means of at least one switching signal. For example, the opposite side, in particular the section of the side, can be designed as a liquid crystal structure. Liquid crystals in the liquid crystal structure can influence a polarization direction of light as a function of an electrical potential. The switching signal can, for example, cause a change in the electrical potential. The observer could for example switch between the direct line of sight and the indirect line of sight via the periscope device by pressing a button. This results in the advantage that the periscope device does not have to be deinstalled if the observer wants to switch between the lines of sight.
The periscope device also comprises an adapter device for a holding device, the adapter device being arranged directly on the carrier medium at the level of the coupling-out area. For example, the adapter device can be arranged on one of the narrow sides of the carrier medium in the area of the coupling-out area. The carrier medium can preferably be attached directly to the adapter device.
Furthermore, in this context the periscope device also comprises the holding device, which can be coupled to the adapter device, the holding device being designed as a deformable rod.
This has the advantage that the observer does not need to touch the carrier medium or the holographic element itself in order to observe the desired object from the cover. In this way, for example, fingerprints on the carrier medium and / or the holographic elements can be avoided, whereby the optical property of the holographic film remains as unaffected as possible.
The holding device can be designed to be deformable, in particular with regard to its length and shape. For example, the holding device can be designed as a telescopic rod or flexible stand.
Additionally or alternatively, the periscope device also comprises an anti-glare element, which encloses the coupling-out area on three sides.
The coupling-out area can thus be shielded from external light radiation. As a result, the observer can more clearly perceive the image of the object to be observed which is visible to the observer. Particularly preferably, the anti-glare element can also enclose the coupling-out area from more than three sides, that is to say from at least three sides, for example from four sides. Thus, the anti-glare element can enclose the coupling-out area, for example, in a range from 180 to 360 degrees, in particular in a range from 220 to 320 degrees, preferably in a range of 270 degrees. Thus, the anti-glare element can in particular be tubular or cylindrical.
The invention also includes embodiments which result in additional advantages.
One embodiment provides that the first diffraction structure is designed to diffract the light only in such a way that it is coupled into the carrier medium when the light strikes the first diffraction structure in a first predetermined angular range, and the second diffraction structure is designed that To diffract light only in such a way that it is coupled out of the carrier medium when the light strikes the second diffraction structure in a second predetermined angular range.
This means that the respective diffraction structure of the holographic element can particularly preferably be designed to be angle-selective. The respective angular range can thus be specified through the design of the diffraction structure. For example, only light that falls essentially perpendicularly onto the diffraction structure of the coupling-in region can thus be coupled into the carrier medium. On the other hand, for example, only light which falls essentially at a 45 ° angle onto the diffraction structure of the coupling-out region can be coupled out of the carrier medium.
The diffraction structures can be angle-selective both with regard to a longitudinal and transverse alignment of the respective holographic element and with regard to a direction of incidence of the light. The direction of incidence describes whether the light strikes a first broad side of the holographic element, or whether the light strikes a second broad side opposite from the first broad side.
Another embodiment provides that the carrier medium is designed as at least one transparent plate. Furthermore, it is provided that the holographic elements are designed as at least one holographic film, the broad side of which rests directly on a broad side of the transparent plate. The coupling-in region is formed by a first section of the at least one film and the coupling-out region is formed by a second section of the at least one film that is different from the first section.
In other words, the carrier medium or the holographic film can be designed as an essentially rectangular or cuboid plate. The design of the plate is described in more detail below, and the statements can apply analogously to the design of the holographic film. An edge length in the longitudinal direction of extent of the plate, also the longitudinal edge, can be greater than an edge length in the widthwise direction, also broad edge. Furthermore, an edge length in the vertical direction, including the upright edge, can be very much smaller than the longitudinal or broad edge. The plate preferably also has small dimensions. For example, the edge length in the longitudinal and width direction of the plate can be only a few centimeters. Accordingly, the edge length in the direction of vertical extension can be a few Embrace millimeters. In connection with the plate or the holographic film, the broad side describes in particular a broad area of the plate. The broad surface can represent a largest side surface of the plate. Thus, the broad side can be that side surface which is enclosed by the respective longitudinal edges and the respective broad edges of one side of the plate. Analogously to this, a narrow side of the plate can be that side surface of the plate which is enclosed by the respective longitudinal edges of opposite sides of the plate and the respective upright edges of opposite sides of the plate.
The holographic film is thus preferably arranged so as to overlap directly with its first broad side on the first broad side of the transparent plate. The area of the holographic film can particularly preferably correspond to the area of the transparent plate. Alternatively, the surface of the film can also have a smaller dimension than the surface of the transparent plate. Particularly preferably, the film can then, for example, lie centered on the broad side of the transparent plate.
The transparent plate can, for example, be designed as a glass plate or Plexiglas or quartz glass or a transparent polymer. The transparent plate can particularly preferably be designed to be flexible or rigid.
The carrier medium and the holographic film preferably have the smallest possible dimensions of a few centimeters in width and length and a few millimeters in thickness. For example, the length is between 5 and 30 cm, in particular between 10 and 20 cm, preferably 15 cm. The width can be between 0.5 and 10 cm, preferably between 2 and 5 cm, in particular 3 cm. The thickness can for example be between 1 mm and 10 mm, preferably between 0.3 mm and 0.8 mm, in particular 0.5 mm.
As an alternative to the embodiment described, the HOEs, which represent the coupling-in area and the coupling-out area, can also be designed as two separate holographic foils, each of which is in direct contact with different sections of a broad side of the carrier medium. In another embodiment, the separate holographic foils can also bear directly on the different sections on different broad sides of the carrier medium. The carrier medium and HOE can in particular be connected to one another directly by means of adhesion or via an adhesive.
The design of the carrier medium as a glass plate or Plexiglas plate or quartz glass plate or polymer plate results in the advantage that the periscope device can have a particularly low weight. Together with the small dimensions and the low weight, the periscope device can thus also be used on the move. This means that the periscope device can be carried along particularly easily and is thus particularly portable.
Since the carrier medium is made very flat in this embodiment, the periscope device can be pushed through particularly flat gaps, such as a door slot. The observer can then take a look into another room without any further aids, such as a camera and / or a screen. Additional aids for observing the object to be observed can thus be avoided.
A further embodiment provides that the periscope device comprises an image capturing device which is arranged on the coupling-out area, the image capturing device being designed to capture the coupled-out light and to provide it in the form of image information that is correlated with the captured light. The periscope device can thus be designed as a holographic camera (HoloCam).
This has the advantage that the object to be observed can not only be viewed by the observer in real time via the coupling-out area, but can also be recorded, for example, in the form of an image or a video, so that the observer can see it again at a later point in time can look at.
The image capturing device can be designed as a camera, for example, wherein the periscope device with the coupling-out area can be attached to a light incidence area or optics, that is to say for example an objective of the camera. In contrast to this, the periscope device can also at least partially replace the optics of the camera. Alternatively, the image acquisition device can also be designed as a CCD sensor (Charge Coupled Device). If the decoupled light falls on the CCD sensor, the latter can generate an electrical signal as a function of an intensity and a wavelength of the decoupled light. The electrical signal then includes the image information from which an image with the object to be observed can then be reconstructed. Overall, the light incidence area of the image capturing device can thus be arranged facing the coupling-out area.
For this purpose, the coupling-out region preferably has a smaller area than the carrier medium, the coupling-out region being centered on the carrier medium in relation to the broad edge is arranged. A coupling area for the image capturing device can thus be provided around the decoupling area, so that the image capturing device in the coupled state completely encloses or completely overlaps the decoupling area. The coupling area can therefore be formed directly in the carrier medium and the image acquisition can consequently be attached directly to the carrier medium.
Alternatively, a holder can also be provided which has a receptacle for the carrier medium and a fastening for the image capturing device, wherein with the carrier medium housed in the receptacle and the image capturing device attached to the fastening, the coupling-out area of the carrier medium faces the light incidence area of the image capturing device. The receptacle can in particular be designed as a slot or slot-like opening in a base body of the holder. The attachment, on the other hand, can be designed as a suspension area for suspending the holder on the image capturing device. This results in the advantage that the carrier medium as a periscope device can be reversibly coupled to the image acquisition device, for example a mobile terminal with a camera. For this purpose, the attachment can be hung, for example, with the hanging area in the area of the camera of the mobile terminal. The periscope device, which can preferably be designed as a transparent plate, can then be pushed into the receptacle, so that the coupling-out area and the light incidence area face one another, preferably are arranged directly next to one another.
A further embodiment provides that the periscope device comprises a communication interface, the image acquisition device being designed to provide the image information to the communication interface, and the communication interface being designed to provide the image information to an external display device. The image information can thus be provided, that is to say sent, for example to a mobile terminal device and / or a screen of an infotainment system of a motor vehicle.
This has the advantage that the observer can not only view the object to be observed directly via the coupling-out area, but can also display it, for example, via his mobile terminal.
The communication interface is particularly preferably designed as a wireless or wired communication interface.
