Abstract
The present invention relates to a transparent packaging for vacuum deformation, comprising a special biaxially oriented, thermoformable polyester film as the bottom film (A) and a special biaxially oriented polyester film as the top film (B), which is heat-sealable to the bottom film (A) and a method for producing a such pack and its use.
Description
The invention relates to a transparent package containing a biaxially oriented, thermoformable polyester film as the bottom film and a biaxially oriented, sealable polyester film as the top film. The thermoformable bottom film is used to hold food, e.g. Meat, fish or poultry. The top film is used to cover the bottom film and is heat sealed onto it. The pack has self-venting (self-ventilation / opening) if you e.g. is processed (cooked) in the oven, in the microwave or in a contact grill at high temperature. The invention further relates to a method for producing the pack and its use.
Transparent menu trays made of thermoformable polyester, e.g. a-PET or modified boPET, produced using a vacuum and sealed after filling with food with a film sealed onto the edge of the menu tray under the influence of temperature, are used particularly in meat, fish, poultry and dry (finished) products such as sandwiches , Burgers or wraps. The preparation of the products in such packs is considered clean and hygienic and is therefore very popular.
The packs are frozen and put on the market. At the consumer, the package is thawed and cooked in the oven at temperatures up to 220 ° C for a certain time (about 30 minutes to two hours). The package is closed and placed in the preheated oven (cook-in), where it opens itself - ideally after 5 to 10 minutes - in the sealed seam (so-called self-venting).
When developing new packs with improved functionality or modified design, self-venting is a must. Due to the automatic opening of the sealing seam, essentially as a result of the vapor pressure built up in the package, the water vapor escapes from the package and the product turns - as desired by the consumer - crispy brown. After the cooking time has expired, the top film is removed from the menu tray while hot - without being destroyed - and the contents of the pack are available for consumption.
The package according to the invention produced from both foils shows the desired self-venting during cooking. Self-venting is achieved when the sealing properties of the top film match the bottom film accordingly.
The market places high visual demands on the two films in the pack, particularly on the cloudiness, clarity and gloss. In order for the contents of the package (corresponding to the size of the food) to be clearly visible, the cloudiness of the package should be <5% and the clarity of the package> 85%. The pack should also appeal to the viewer. In addition, high gloss values of the pack are aimed for.
In addition, the pack is required to have a high puncture resistance so that it can survive transport without damage.

- • The bottom film of the packaging should have such good thermoformability that it can be used to easily pack meat, poultry or fish pieces or dry products such as sandwiches on the market in the desired packaging design. According to market requirements, the bottom film should be able to be thermoformed at least to a depth of 70 mm.
- • In addition, both films, but especially the lower film, should have very good mechanical properties. The mechanical property of the lower film, which is particularly important for the present application, is the puncture resistance. It should be so high that the package can be transported and stored without being damaged.
- • The package should be sealed between the bottom and top film in such a way that it can withstand pre-cooking in a water bath (temperature water bath up to 85 ° C, residence time pack in a water bath up to 6 hours) without being absorbed in the sealed seams
- • During the cooking process, for example in a conventional oven with an oven temperature of up to 220 ° C, the package should show self-venting, whereby the self-venting should ideally occur after a dwell time of approx. 5 to 15 minutes in the oven
- • The pack should have a brilliant look. This affects the cloudiness, but especially the clarity of both films in the pack. Both films are desired to have a haze less than 5% and a clarity greater than 85%. For example, the customer wishes that he can get a clear and detailed picture of the package contents when purchasing the goods. In addition, the pack should appeal to the viewer optically with the highest possible gloss.
- • It is also required that the package survives the cooking process in such a way that it does not cloud over white, for example due to crystallization of the films during the cooking process.
- • In addition, the pack should have good barrier properties, especially against oxygen and water vapor. The permeation values of customary, state-of-the-art, biaxially oriented PET films serve as a benchmark (see, for example, http://www.bfr.bund.de/cm/343/barrierewirkung-ausgewaehlterkunststoffmaterial- gegen-die-migration-von) -mineraloelfraktionen-inlebensmittel.pdf) that do not / or. may only be exceeded marginally (<5%). The permeation values of 100 µm thick PET films are: OTR = 10 cm 3 / (m 2 d bar) and the WVTR = 2 g / (m 2 d).
- • The two highly transparent and therefore little filled films (concentration of antiblocking agent, see further below) of the pack should be easy to wrap and easy to process. When winding and unwinding the films, the individual layers of film must not stick to each other, even at elevated temperatures, e.g. 50 or 60 ° C. Increased adhesion between the individual layers of film would make processing the films more difficult or even impossible.
- • The pack should be economical to manufacture. This means, for example, that industrial processes can be used to produce the bottom and top film.

Unterfolie (A) = Thermoformbare PolyesterfolieBottom film (A) = thermoformable polyester film
(A' A" A'") gebildet wird. The package according to the present invention contains a thermoformable lower film (A) which can be coated with a transparent, biaxially oriented, single-layer polyester film (A) or with a transparent, biaxially oriented, multi-layer coextruded polyester film, e.g. (A 'A "A'") is formed.
The lower film (A) comprises at least 85% by weight of a thermoplastic copolyester. According to the invention, this is a copolyester, the dicarboxylic acid components of which can be attributed to units derived from terephthalic acid to 85 to 94 mol% and units derived from isophthalic acid from 6 to 15 mol%. This is preferably a film which is composed of a copolyester, the dicarboxylic acid components of which can be attributed to 86 to 93 mol% of units derived from terephthalic acid and 7 to 14 mol% of units derived from isophthalic acid. According to the invention, ethylene glycol is preferably suitable as the diol in the thermoplastic copolyester.
Diolen stammen. In vorteilhafter Weise können für den thermoplastischen Polyester der Unterfolie (A) auch Mischungen oder Blends aus den genannten Homo- und/oder Copolymeren verwendet werden.0 to 15% by weight of the lower film (A) can be made up of further polymers / polymer parts and / or further substances, the further polymers / polymer parts coming from other aromatic and / or aliphatic dicarboxylic acids or diols. Mixtures or blends of the homo- and / or copolymers mentioned can advantageously also be used for the thermoplastic polyester of the lower film (A).
Suitable other aromatic dicarboxylic acids are preferably terephthalic acid, 2,5-furanedicarboxylic acid (FDCA), biphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid, naphthalenedicarboxylic acids (for example naphthalene-1,4- or 1,6-dicarboxylic acid or naphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylic acid) , Biphenyl-x, x'-dicarboxylic acids (especially biphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid), diphenylacetylene-x, x'-dicarboxylic acids (especially diphenylacetylene-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid) or stilbene-x, x'-dicarboxylic acids. Of the cycloaliphatic dicarboxylic acids, cyclohexanedicarboxylic acids (in particular cyclohexane-1,4-dicarboxylic acid) should be mentioned. Of the aliphatic dicarboxylic acids, the (C 3 -C 19 ) alkanedioic acids are particularly suitable, the alkane fraction being straight-chain or branched.
Suitable other aliphatic diols are, for example, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, aliphatic glycols of the general formula HO- (CH 2 ) n -OH, where n represents an integer from 3 to 6 (in particular propane-1,3-diol, butane-1,4) diol, pentane-1,5-diol and hexane-1,6-diol) or branched aliphatic glycols with up to 6 carbon atoms, cycloaliphatic, optionally heteroatom-containing diols with one or more rings. Of the cycloaliphatic diols, cyclohexanediols (in particular cyclohexane-1,4-diol) may be mentioned. Suitable other aromatic diols correspond, for example, to the formula HO-C 6 H 4 -XC 6 H 4 -OH, where X is -CH 2 -, -C (CH 3 ) 2 -, -C (CF 3 ) 2 -, -O -, -S- or -SO 2 - stands.
The desired good mechanical properties, but in particular the desired good thermoformability of the biaxially oriented polyester film, are obtained by the choice of the fractions according to the invention which are due to units derived from terephthalic acid and isophthalic acid. If the proportion of the dicarboxylic acid components attributable to units derived from isophthalic acid is less than 6% by weight, the desired good thermoformability of the film cannot be obtained. On the other hand, if this proportion is more than 15% by weight, the lower film (A) can no longer be produced reliably by the process described below. Films, which consist of such high proportions of components, which are due to units derived from isophthalic acid, tend in the manufacturing process e.g. very strong for gluing to itself or with corresponding machine parts, e.g. Rolling in the longitudinal stretch or rolling in the outlet of the machine after the transverse stretching.
The polyester can be produced by the transesterification process. The starting point is dicarboxylic acid esters and diols, which are reacted with the usual transesterification catalysts, such as zinc, calcium, lithium and manganese salts. The intermediates are polycondensed in the presence of generally customary polycondensation catalysts, such as antimony trioxide, titanium oxide, and germanium compounds. The preparation can also be carried out by the direct esterification process in the presence of polycondensation catalysts. Here one starts directly from the dicarboxylic acids and the diols.
It has proven to be particularly advantageous if the intermediates are polycondensed in the presence of titanium dioxide or germanium compounds, or if the direct esterification processes are carried out in the presence of polycondensation catalysts such as titanium dioxide or germanium compounds. The biaxially oriented polyester film is then free of antimony. For the purposes of the invention, antimony-free is understood to mean an antimony content of 20 20 ppm (an antimony content of 20 20 ppm can be accepted in the polyester raw material, since antimony-free raw materials are usually synthesized in reactors in which raw materials containing antimony / antimony trioxide-catalyzed are produced. Thus, ubiquitous traces of antimony cannot always be completely excluded). In the particularly preferred case, the aim is a biaxially oriented polyester film which contains no antimony and can therefore be used in packaging applications in which the film is in direct contact with food.
Weiterhin wurde im Rahmen der vorliegenden Erfindung gefunden, dass auf der anderen Seite für den Fall, wo der Flächenmodul größer ist als 6400 N/mm2, die Folie nicht mehr entsprechend der Aufgabenstellung tiefgezogen werden kann.E MD is the modulus of elasticity of the film, measured in the longitudinal direction of the machine and E TD is the modulus of elasticity of the film, measured in the transverse direction of the machine. This property is essentially achieved by adhering to the manufacturing process according to the invention described below in connection with the polyesters according to the invention described above. It has surprisingly been found that in the event that the surface modulus is less than 4500 N / mm 2 , the film no longer has the desired mechanical properties and is therefore unsuitable for the application mentioned. For example, the film can then no longer be reasonably wound due to the insufficient surface modulus; there are wrinkles that are undesirable. Furthermore, it was found within the scope of the present invention that, on the other hand, for the case where the surface module is greater than 6400 N / mm 2 , the film can no longer be thermoformed in accordance with the task.
Furthermore, the film according to the present invention is characterized by the sum of the strengths (σ 5 value) in the longitudinal direction (MD) and in the transverse direction (TD) in the range from 170 to 220 MPa. This property is again essentially achieved by adhering to the manufacturing process according to the invention described below in connection with the polyesters according to the invention described above. If the total strength is less than 170 MPa, the film no longer has the desired mechanical properties and is therefore unsuitable for use. For example, the film can then no longer be reasonably transported in the thermoforming machine due to the insufficient strength. the film warps, which is undesirable. In the other case, where the total strength is greater than 220 MPa, the film can no longer be thermoformed according to the task.
Furthermore, the film according to the present invention is characterized by a density of less than 1390 kg / m 3 . This property is again essentially achieved by adhering to the manufacturing process according to the invention described below in connection with the polyesters according to the invention described above. If the density of the film is greater than 1390 kg / m 3 , the film is surprisingly too crystalline to be able to be deep-drawn according to the task.
To achieve the desired good mechanical properties, but in particular to achieve the desired good thermoformability, it is necessary that the SV value of the lower film (A) is in a certain range. According to the invention, the SV value of the lower film (A) is in the range from 680 to 1000, preferably in the range from 710 to 950, particularly preferably in the range from 740 to 900. The SV values of the respective polymer melts (base and cover layers) should not differ by more than 100, preferably not more than 75, but in particular not more than 50 units.
If the film's SV value is less than 680, the required good thermoformability of the film of approx. 70 mm deep drawing cannot be achieved. On the other hand, if the SV value is greater than 1000, the polyester is too viscous and can e.g. can no longer be extruded economically.
- a) The particles should have an average particle diameter d 50 of 1.5 to 5.0 microns. It has proven particularly expedient to use particles with ad 50 of 1.7 to 4.5 μm and particularly preferably of 2.0 to 4.0 μm.
- b) The particles should be present in the bottom film in a concentration of 0 to 0.1% by weight (1000 ppm). The concentration of the particles in the film is preferably 1.0 × 10 -5 to 0.075% by weight and particularly preferably 1.1 × 10 -5 to 0.05% by weight.
If particles with a diameter d 50 of less than 1.5 µm are used, there is no positive influence of the particles, for example on the winding of the film. In this case, the film tends to tear or tear when unwound, which is undesirable. Particles with a diameter d 50 of greater than 5.0 μm generally cause problems when the film is stretched, vacuoles are increasingly formed which negatively influence the cloudiness of the film. Contains the bottom film (A) particles in a concentration of more than 0.1% by weight, the haze of the film is no longer in the range according to the invention.
Übliche Antiblockmittel sind anorganische und/oder organische Partikel, wie beispielsweise Calciumcarbonat, amorphe Kieselsäure, Talk, Magnesiumcarbonat, Bariumcarbonat, Calciumsulfat, Bariumsulfat, Lithiumphosphat, Calciumphosphat, Magnesiumphosphat, Aluminiumoxid, Calcium-, Barium-, Zink- oder Mangan-Salze der in der Unterfolie (A) eingesetzten abgeleiteten Dicarbonsäuren, Titandioxid, Kaolin oder vernetzte Polystyrol- oder vernetzte Polymer-Partikel auf Basis von Acrylsäurederivaten.Common antiblocking agents are inorganic and / or organic particles, such as calcium carbonate, amorphous silica, talc, magnesium carbonate, barium carbonate, calcium sulfate, barium sulfate, lithium phosphate, calcium phosphate, magnesium phosphate, aluminum oxide, calcium, barium, zinc or manganese salts in the Sub-film (A) used derived dicarboxylic acids, titanium dioxide, kaolin or cross-linked polystyrene or cross-linked polymer particles based on acrylic acid derivatives.
Particles preferred according to the invention are synthetically produced, amorphous SiO 2 particles in colloidal form. The particles are perfectly integrated into the polymer matrix and only generate a few vacuoles.
Due to the process, the thermoformable film is exposed to little thermal stress over a large part of its surface. Only in the edge area of the pack and here in particular at the corners of the pack (sealing edge) does the film have a significantly increased thermal load. While the rest of the thermoformed film experiences temperatures well below 160 ° C due to the evaporating water, the corner area of the pack is exposed to the oven temperature for the entire cooking time.
In extreme cases, the film in the corner area is thermally stressed for more than 2 hours at a temperature of 220 ° C., at which elevated temperature oxygen can penetrate into the polymer.
As a result of this, it is quite possible that the package, and thus the film, in particular in the corners, begins to become brittle and tends to form splinters. This is extremely undesirable and must be avoided.
If increased thermal stability is required for this area of application, the film — preferably made of antimony-free polyester — preferably contains one or more radical scavengers. This radical scavenger (s) is preferably based on phenolic antioxidants.
It has surprisingly been found that the film, which contains one or more radical scavengers, has a significantly increased temperature resistance, so that packaging produced therefrom can remain in an oven at temperatures above 220 ° C. for more than one hour without becoming brittle.
In a preferred embodiment, the film according to the present invention contains 500-3000 ppm of a radical scavenger, the content preferably being between 600-2,500 ppm and particularly preferably between 700-2,000 ppm. Levels lower than 500 ppm tend to lead to failure in the oven (= splintering) and levels higher than 3000 ppm have no further improving effect on the film and therefore only reduce the economy and can lead to migration of the stabilizer from the film into a packaged food to lead. Levels above 3000 ppm also tend to lead to the formation of gels and an undesirable yellow tinge of the film.
Both a compound or a mixture of different radical scavengers can be used as the radical scavenger, it being preferred to use a compound as the radical scavenger. The radical scavenger (s) used are preferably selected from the group of the phenolic antioxidants.
Bevorzugte Radikalfänger sind pentaerythritol tetrakis [3-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-propionate] (CAS-Nr. 6683-19-8) und 1,3,5-Trimethyl-2,4,6-tris(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-benzol) (CAS-Nr. 1709-70-2), erhältlich unter dem Handelsnahmen Irganox 1010 und Irganox 1330 der Firma BASF.Preferred radical scavengers are pentaerythritol tetrakis [3- (3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl) propionate] (CAS No. 6683-19-8) and 1,3,5-trimethyl-2,4, 6-tris (3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl) benzene) (CAS No. 1709-70-2), available under the trade names Irganox 1010 and Irganox 1330 from BASF.
The effectiveness of the radical scavenger can be seen directly on the packaging, e.g. after removing the packaging from the oven. The packaging is said to be good (= suitable for the application) if no chipping is found at any point on the film according to the present invention.
The lower film (A) can be constructed in one or more layers (ie at least two layers). To achieve the aforementioned properties, in particular the required good optical properties of the polyester film, a single-layer structure of the film has proven to be advantageous. However, a two- or three-layer structure of the lower film (A) from two layers A 'and A "or three layers A'A"A' or A'A "A '" has also proven to be suitable. The amount of particles in the base layer A "of, for example, a three-layer film should be set lower than in the two layers A '(and A'"), which are preferably kept the same or can also be different.
The particle concentration in layer (A ") should be chosen so that it has a positive effect on the haze and gloss of the film. In the case of a three-layer film of the type mentioned, the particle concentration in layer (A") is between 0 and 0 , 08% by weight, preferably between 0 and 0.05% by weight and in particular between 0 and 0.02% by weight. The particle diameter of the particles used is particularly preferred with ad 50 greater than 1.5 μm.
When choosing the particle concentration in the outer layers (A 'or A' ") and in the base layer (A"), care must be taken that the particle concentration in the entire film does not exceed the value according to the invention of 0.1% by weight.
The thickness of the two layers A '(or A' and A '") can be the same or different. Their thicknesses are generally between 0.2 and 5 µm. The bottom film (A) can also contain conventional additives such as stabilizers ( UV, hydrolysis), but especially heat stabilizers (eg Irganox 1010) or other fillers (eg color pigments), in the concentrations recommended by the manufacturer, which are expediently added to the polymer or polymer mixture before it is melted in the extruder.
The total thickness of the polyester film (A) according to the invention can vary within certain limits. It is 50 to 300 μm, preferably 51 to 300 μm and particularly preferably 52 to 300 μm. If the thickness of the film (A) is less than 50 µm, the mechanics and the barrier properties of the thermoformed film are insufficient. If, on the other hand, the thickness of the film (A) is greater than 300 μm, the thermoformability of the film deteriorates and the production of the film becomes uneconomical, both of which are undesirable.
Herstellung der Schichten (A'A"A'")), das biaxiale Strecken der Unterfolie (A), sowie das Thermofixieren und das Aufwickeln der gestreckten Unterfolie (A).The present invention also relates to a process for producing the thermoformable lower film (A). It includes the production of the lower film by extrusion (production of layer (A)) or coextrusion (eg production of the layers (A'A "A '")), the biaxial stretching of the lower film (A), and the heat setting and winding up of the stretched bottom film (A).
In the coextrusion process, after the respective melts have been extruded in separate extruders, they are shaped into flat melt films in a multi-layer nozzle and layered one above the other. The multilayer film is then pulled off and solidified with the aid of a cooling roller and, if appropriate, further rollers. For the mixing of the various components, it has proven to be advantageous if the extrusion of the polymers for the layer (A) or layers (A'A "A" ') is carried out with a twin-screw extruder with the possibility of degassing. This creates a film that is optically perfect, e.g. has no cloud structure or no stripes.
The film is biaxially stretched sequentially. In sequential stretching, stretching is preferably carried out first in the longitudinal direction and then in the transverse direction. Stretching in the longitudinal direction can e.g. with the help of two rollers rotating at different speeds according to the desired stretching ratio. An appropriate tenter frame is generally used for transverse stretching.
The temperatures at which the biaxial stretching is carried out can vary within certain ranges, they depend essentially on the desired properties, in particular the desired thermoforming properties of the film according to the invention. Surprisingly, it was found that in order to achieve the desired thermoformability, the film had to be stretched less than is customary in the prior art.
In order to achieve the desired thermoformability of the film, the stretching is carried out in the longitudinal direction under certain conditions. The temperature of the film during stretching is in a range from 70 to 100 ° C (the heating temperatures of the rolls are 60 to 110 ° C). The longitudinal stretching ratio is in the range from 2.2: 1 to 3.8: 1, preferably in the range from 2.3: 1 to 3.6: 1 and particularly preferably in the range from 2.4: 1 to 3.4: 1. If the film is stretched below 2.2: 1, the thickness profile is poor, for example, if the film is stretched above 3.8: 1, the thermoformability is no longer sufficient.
After the longitudinal stretching, the transverse stretching takes place in a corresponding tenter frame. The temperatures of the heating fields in the tenter frame are 70 to 120 ° C (film temperature: 60 to 110 ° C). The stretching in the transverse direction is in a temperature range of the film from 90 ° C (start of stretching) to 140 ° C (end of stretching) carried out. According to the invention, the transverse stretching ratio is in the range from 2.2: 1 to 3.8: 1, preferably in the range from 2.4: 1 to 3.7: 1 and particularly preferably in the range from 2.6: 1 to 3.6: 1. If the film is stretched below 2.2: 1, e.g. the thickness profile is poor, if the film is stretched above 3.8: 1, the thermoformability is no longer sufficient.
After the biaxial orientation, the film is heat set. Surprisingly, it was found that in order to achieve the above-mentioned, desired good thermoformability of the film, the thermosetting must be carried out under certain conditions according to the invention. According to the invention, the time for the heat setting is 5 to 25 s, preferably 6 to 22 s and particularly preferably 7 to 20 s. The temperature at which the heat setting is carried out is, according to the invention, in the range from 175 to 220 ° C., preferably in the range from 178 to 215 ° C. and particularly preferably in the range from 180 to 210 ° C.
After heat setting, the film is cooled and wound up in the usual way.
For the production of the lower film (A) according to the invention, it is important that the process conditions mentioned above are observed. If the above-mentioned process conditions according to the invention for longitudinal and transverse stretching and for fixing the lower film (A) are not observed, the properties of the film according to the invention with regard to the mechanical properties of the film, but in particular with regard to the desired thermoformability and puncture resistance, cannot be achieved, which is undesirable is.
To improve the windability of the transparent, low-filled film, in a preferred embodiment, at least one surface of the lower film (A) is coated inline or offline with a further layer (C), the poly (acrylic) and / or poly (metharyl acid alkyl ester) and / or poly (acrylic-comethacrylic acid alkyl ester) contains. It may also contain acrylic and / or methacrylic copolyesters which cause the polymers to crosslink. N-methylolacrylamide is preferably used for the preparation of the copolymers. Furthermore, other crosslinkers such as Melamine can be used. The coating is preferably applied inline.
The coating (C) according to the present invention is described in detail in EPA 0 144 948, to which reference is expressly made here.
The preferred acrylate coating is applied to the lower film (A) at least on one side and essentially serves to improve the winding, in particular to improve the unwinding of the film after storage (at elevated temperatures). The coating formulation can contain known additives such as. B. antistatic agents, wetting agents, surfactants, pH regulators, antioxidants, dyes, pigments, anti-blocking agents such as. B. colloidal SiO 2 etc. Usually it is appropriate to incorporate a surfactant to further increase the ability of the aqueous coating to wet the polyester carrier film and to stabilize the particles of copolymers of acrylic / methacrylic acid.
The lower film (A) is coated with the acrylic crosslinking layer (C) either inline, preferably between the first and second stretching steps, or offline after the biaxially oriented film has been produced.
Bei der offline Beschichtung erfolgt die Aufbringung der Schicht (C) vorzugsweise nach der Herstellung der Unterfolie (A).In the case of the inline coating which is preferably used, one or both surfaces of the lower film (A) are coated with a layer (C) before the transverse stretching. In the offline coating, the layer (C) is preferably applied after the production of the lower film (A).
The polyester film is coated with a functional coating such that the coating on the finished polyester film has a thickness of preferably 5 to 100 nm, particularly preferably 10 to 90 and very particularly preferably 15 to 80 nm. The application of layer (C) by means of the “reverse gravure-roll coating” method is particularly preferred, in which the coating can be applied extremely homogeneously in layer thicknesses of up to 200 nm. The coating is preferably applied as a solution, suspension or as a dispersion, particularly preferably as an aqueous solution, suspension or the dispersion.
The substances mentioned are applied as a dilute, aqueous solution or dispersion to one of the two film surfaces and then the solvent is evaporated. If the coating is applied inline before the transverse stretching, the temperature treatment in the transverse stretching and the subsequent heat fixation is sufficient to volatilize the solvent and to dry the coating.

Die Tabelle 1 fasst u.a. die wichtigsten erfindungsgemäßen Folieneigenschaften zusammen.
Tabelle 1
Oberfolie (B) = Siegelfähige PolyesterfolieTop film (B) = sealable polyester film
The package according to the present invention further contains an upper film (B) which is formed by a transparent, biaxially oriented, coextruded and sealable polyester film (B 'B ") or (B' B" B '").
Deckschicht (B')Top layer (B ')
The sealable top layer (B ') of the top film (B) comprises at least 90% by weight of a polyester according to the invention. The polyester according to the invention contains an amorphous polyester I in a proportion of 85 to 97% by weight and a partially crystalline polyester II in one Share of 3 to 15 wt .-%. Due to the high proportion of polyester I, which contains 15 to 40 mol% CHDM, the cover layer (B ') is essentially amorphous and is therefore well suited as a sealing layer for the intended application.
Dicarbonsäuren.0 to 10% by weight of the cover layer (B ') can be made up of further polyesters and / or substances. The monomer units of the other polyesters originate from other aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic diols or dicarboxylic acids.
Other aliphatic diols suitable for forming the other polyesters are, for example, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, aliphatic glycols of the general formula HO- (CH 2 ) n -OH, where n represents an integer from 3 to 6 (in particular propane-1,3-diol, Butane-1,4-diol, pentane-1,5-diol and hexane-1,6-diol) or branched aliphatic glycols with up to 6 carbon atoms. Suitable other aromatic diols correspond, for example, to the formula HO-C 6 H 4 -XC 6 H 4 -OH, where X is -CH 2 -, -C (CH 3 ) 2 -, -C (CF 3 ) 2 -, -O -, -S- or -SO 2 - stands.
Other aromatic dicarboxylic acids of the other polyesters are preferably benzenedicarboxylic acids, naphthalene dicarboxylic acids, for example naphthalene-1,4- or 1,6-dicarboxylic acid, biphenyl-x, x'-dicarboxylic acids, in particular biphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid, diphenylacetylene-x, x '-dicarboxylic acids, especially diphenylacetylene-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid, or stilbene-x, x'-dicarboxylic acids. Of the cycloaliphatic dicarboxylic acids, cyclohexanedicarboxylic acids, in particular cyclohexane-1,4-dicarboxylic acid, should be mentioned. Of the aliphatic dicarboxylic acids, the (C 3 to C 19 ) alkanedioic acids are particularly suitable, the alkane fraction being straight-chain or branched.
The proportion of polyester I in the polyester of the top layer (B ') according to the invention is 85 to 97% by weight. The proportion of polyester I is preferably 90 to 97% by weight and particularly preferably 92 to 97% by weight. If the proportion of polyester I in the top layer (B ') is less than 85% by weight, the sealing behavior of the film is impaired. If the proportion of polyester I in the top layer (B ') is more than 97% by weight, self-venting is impaired, which is undesirable. In addition, the manufacturability of the film is made more difficult, since the tendency of the film to stick to certain machine parts becomes particularly high.
Polyester I is essentially made up of copolyesters, which are predominantly composed of terephthalic acid units and of ethylene glycol and 1,4-bis-hydroxymethylcyclohexane (= 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol (CHDM)) units. The preferred copolyesters are those composed of ethylene terephthalate and 1,4-cyclohexanedimethylene terephthalate units. The proportion of ethylene terephthalate is 60 to 85 mol% and the corresponding proportion of cyclohexanedimethylene terephthalate is 15 to 40 mol%. Also preferred are copolyesters in which the proportion of ethylene terephthalate is 62 to 80 mol% and the corresponding proportion of cyclohexanedimethylene terephthalate is 20 to 38 mol%, and copolyesters in which the proportion of ethylene terephthalate is 65 to 80 mol% and are very preferred the corresponding proportion of cyclohexanedimethylene terephthalate is 20 to 35 mol%.
Polyester I can also contain 0 to 5 mol% of further monomer units, preferably cycloaliphatic diols, such as, for example, diethylene glycol or triethylene glycol, or generally aliphatic glycols of the general formula HO- (CH 2 ) n -OH, where n is an integer from 3 to 6.
The proportion of polyester II in the top layer (B ') is 3 to 15% by weight. In the preferred embodiment, the proportion of polyester II is 3 to 10% by weight and in the particularly preferred embodiment it is 3 to 8% by weight. If the proportion of polyester II in the top layer (B ') is less than 3% by weight, the self-venting of the film is impaired. Instead of a flat self-venting over certain areas of the packaging, small channels form over the length of the sealing seam, which impair self-venting, which is undesirable. On the other hand, if the proportion of polyester II is more than 15% by weight, the sealability of the top layer (B ') is deteriorated, which is also undesirable.
- 70 to 100 mol%, preferably 72 to 98 mol% and particularly preferably 74 to 95 mol% of ethylene terephthalate
- 0 to 30 mol%, preferably 2 to 28 mol% and particularly preferably 5 to 26 mol% of isophthalate
- • More than 50 mol%, preferably more than 65 mol% and particularly preferably more than 80 mol% of ethylene units.
Any remaining portions are derived from other aromatic dicarboxylic acids and other aliphatic diols, such as those e.g. for the base layer (B ") have been listed as major and minor carboxylic acids.
Particularly preferred copolyesters are those in which the proportion of terephthalate units is 74 to 88 mol%, the corresponding proportion of isophthalate units 12 to 26 mol% (the dicarboxylate proportions being 100 mol%) and the proportion Ethylene units is 100 mol%. I.e. it is polyethylene terephthalate isophthalate.
- • Mixing the two polyesters I and II leads to incompatibilities in the layer. This makes the surface of the top layer (B ') rougher and the self-venting is better.
- • In addition, practically speaking, the desired sealing properties can be set better with the mixture
- • The addition of particles is easier with polyester II than with polyester I.
In order to achieve the desired good self-venting, but in particular to achieve good extrudability of the copolyesters, it is favorable that the SV value of the amorphous polyester I is in a certain range. It has proven to be expedient if the SV value of the polyester I is in the range from 680 to 900, preferably in the range from 710 to 880 and particularly preferably in the range from 740 to 850. If the SV value is less than 680 or greater than 900, the raw material can e.g. can no longer be extruded economically.
To achieve good self-venting of the heat-sealable top layer (B '), good processability of the top film (B), but also to improve the peeling behavior of the top film (B) from the menu tray (made from bottom film (A) by thermoforming) after Cooking, it is advantageous according to the invention to further modify the heat-sealable cover layer (B ') with the aid of suitable antiblocking agents (= particles).
For good self-venting of the heat-sealable cover layer (B '), the diameter d 50 of the particles (= particles) must be in a range according to the invention. It has proven to be particularly advantageous to use particles with an average particle diameter d 50 of 1.5 to 5.0 μm, preferably 1.5 to 4.5 μm and particularly preferably 1.5 to 4.0 μm . When using particles with a diameter below 1.5 µm, there is no positive influence of the particles on the self-venting of the top layer (B '). In addition, after cooking, the film tends to tear or tear when pulled off the menu tray, which is undesirable. Particles with a diameter of more than 5.0 µm usually cause the film to become too cloudy and glossy, as well as filter problems.
In order to provide the desired good self-venting, good winding and good processability of the film, it has proven to be advantageous if the heat-sealable cover layer (B ') has particles in a concentration of more than 0.04% by weight, preferably of contains more than 0.05% by weight and particularly preferably more than 0.06% by weight. The maximum concentration of the particles is 0.35% by weight, preferably 0.30% by weight and particularly preferably 0.25% by weight. If the top layer (B ') contains particles in a concentration of less than 0.04% by weight, there is no longer a positive influence on self-venting. If the top layer (B ') contains particles in a concentration of more than 0.35% by weight, the film becomes too cloudy.
In a preferred embodiment, the particle diameter d 50 in the heat-sealable cover layer (B ') is greater than the thickness of this layer. It has proven to be advantageous according to the invention to maintain a particle diameter / layer thickness ratio of greater than 1.0, preferably greater than 1.1 and particularly preferably greater than 1.2. In these cases, the particles have a particularly positive influence on the self-venting and peeling behavior of the film from the menu tray after cooking.
Typical other particles that are used in the top layer (B ') are inorganic and / or organic particles, for example calcium carbonate, talc, magnesium carbonate, barium carbonate, calcium sulfate, barium sulfate, lithium phosphate, calcium phosphate, magnesium phosphate, aluminum oxide, LiF, calcium, barium -, Zinc or manganese salts of the dicarboxylic acids, titanium dioxide, kaolin or particulate polymers such as. B. cross-linked polystyrene or acrylate particles.
According to the invention, the heat-sealable cover layer (B ') has a thickness of 1.5 to 4 μm. If the thickness of the cover layer (B ') is less than 1.5 µm, the sealing of the top film (B) to the bottom film (A) is not sufficient. If the cover layer thickness is greater than 4 µm, the self-venting of the pack deteriorates, which is undesirable.
7 N/15 mm.The cover layer (B ') shows good sealing properties against itself (fin sealing, cover layer (B') against cover layer (B ')), but in particular against the bottom film (A). After sealing at 200 ° C (460 N, 2 s), the sealing seam strength of the cover layer (B ') against itself (fin sealing) and against the bottom film (A) is greater than 2 N / 15 mm and is max. 7 N / 15 mm.
Basisschicht (B")Base layer (B ")
- • more than 90 mol%, preferably more than 95 mol% terephthalate
- • more than 90 mol%, preferably more than 95 mol% of ethylene.
Other suitable aliphatic diols for forming the polyester are, for example, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, aliphatic glycols of the general formula HO- (CH 2 ) n -OH, where n represents an integer from 3 to 6 (in particular propane-1,3-diol, butane -1,4-diol, pentane-1,5-diol and hexane-1,6-diol) or branched aliphatic glycols with up to 6 carbon atoms. Suitable other aromatic diols correspond, for example, to the formula HO-C 6 H 4 -XC 6 H 4 -OH, where X is -CH 2 -, - C (CH 3 ) 2 -, -C (CF 3 ) 2 -, -O -, -S- or -SO 2 - stands.
Other aromatic dicarboxylic acids are preferably benzenedicarboxylic acids, naphthalene dicarboxylic acids, for example naphthalene-1,4- or 1,6-dicarboxylic acids, biphenyl-x, x'-dicarboxylic acids, in particular biphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylic acids, diphenylacetylene-x, x'-dicarboxylic acids , in particular diphenylacetylene-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid, or stilbene-x, x'-dicarboxylic acids. Of the cycloaliphatic dicarboxylic acids are Cyclohexanedicarboxylic acids, in particular cyclohexane-1,4-dicarboxylic acid, to name a few. Of the aliphatic dicarboxylic acids, the (C 3 to C 19 ) alkanedioic acids are particularly suitable, the alkane fraction being straight-chain or branched.
The polyesters for the base layer (B ") can be produced, for example, by the transesterification process. The starting point is dicarboxylic acid esters and diols which are treated with the customary transesterification catalysts, such as zinc, calcium, lithium, magnesium and manganese salts, The intermediates are then polycondensed in the presence of generally customary polycondensation catalysts, such as antimony trioxide or titanium, aluminum or germanium salts, and can also be prepared by the direct esterification process in the presence of polycondensation catalysts, starting directly from the dicarboxylic acids and the diols out.
It has proven to be particularly advantageous if the intermediates are polycondensed in the presence of titanium dioxide or germanium compounds, or if the direct esterification processes are carried out in the presence of polycondensation catalysts such as titanium dioxide or germanium compounds. The biaxially oriented polyester film is therefore free of antimony. In the particularly preferred case, the aim is a biaxially oriented polyester film which contains no antimony and can therefore be used in packaging applications in which the film is in direct contact with food.
The base layer (B ") can additionally contain conventional additives such as stabilizers (UV, hydrolysis), but especially heat stabilizers (eg Irganox 1010) or other fillers (eg color pigments) in the concentrations recommended by the manufacturer. These additives are expediently added to the polymer or added to the polymer mixture before melting.
The base layer (B ") additionally contains regrind, which is added to the extrusion in an amount of up to 60% by weight during the production of the film without the physical, but in particular the optical properties of the film being negatively influenced.
As previously described for the bottom film, the top film is also exposed to an increased thermal load in the so-called cook-in process.
Due to the process, the film is exposed to little thermal stress over a large part of its surface.
As described for the film (A), the base layer (B ") preferably also contains one or more radical scavengers if increased thermal stability is required. The radical scavenger (s) are preferably based on phenolic antioxidants.
It was surprisingly found that the film, which contains one or more radical scavengers, has a significantly increased temperature resistance, so that packaging produced therefrom can remain in an oven at temperatures above 220 ° C. for more than one hour without becoming brittle.
In a preferred embodiment, the film according to the present invention contains 400-2000 ppm of a radical scavenger, the content preferably being between 500-2000 ppm and particularly preferably between 600-2000 ppm. Levels lower than 400 ppm tend to lead to failure in the oven (= splintering) and levels higher than 2000 ppm have no further improving effect on the film and therefore only reduce the economy and can lead to migration of the stabilizer from the film into a packaged food to lead. Levels above 2000 ppm also tend to lead to the formation of gels and an undesirable yellow tinge of the film.
Die Verpackung wird dabei als gut (= für die Anwendung geeignet) bezeichnet, wenn an keiner Stelle der Folie nach der vorliegenden Erfindung ein Absplittern festgestellt werdenThe effectiveness of the radical scavenger can be seen directly on the packaging, e.g. after removing the packaging from the oven. The packaging is said to be good (= suitable for the application) if no chipping is found at any point on the film according to the present invention
The sealable top film (B) according to the invention can be constructed in two or three layers. To achieve the aforementioned properties, in particular the very good optical properties of the polyester film required, a three-layer structure of the upper film (B) with a structure of layers B'B "B" 'has proven to be advantageous. The top film (B) according to the invention then comprises the base layer B ", the sealable cover layer B 'on one side of the base layer B" and the cover layer B' "on the other side of the base layer B".
The thickness of the cover layer B '"is generally between 0.5 and 3 μm and preferably consists of the polyester which is also used for the base layer layer (B"), it preferably being free of CHDM.
The total thickness of the polyester film (B) according to the invention can vary within certain limits. It is 20 to 125 µm, preferably 25 to 100 µm and particularly preferably 30 to 75 µm. If the thickness of the film (B) is less than 20 µm, the mechanics and the barrier properties of the film are insufficient. If, on the other hand, the thickness of the film (B) is greater than 125 μm, the sealability of the film deteriorates and the production of the film also becomes uneconomical, both of which are undesirable.
The invention also relates to a process for producing the polyester film (B) according to the invention by the coextrusion process known from the literature.
In this process, the procedure is such that the melts corresponding to the individual layers (B'B and, if present, B '") of the top film (B) are coextruded through a flat die, the film thus obtained for solidification on one or more rollers is pulled off, the film is then stretched biaxially and the biaxially stretched film is heat-set.
The biaxial stretching is carried out sequentially. It is preferably stretched first in the longitudinal direction (i.e. in the machine direction) and then in the transverse direction (i.e. perpendicular to the machine direction). The stretching in the longitudinal direction can be carried out with the aid of several rolls running at different speeds in accordance with the desired stretching ratio. A corresponding tenter frame is generally used for transverse stretching.
First, as is customary in the coextrusion process, the polymers or the polymer mixtures for the individual layers are compressed and liquefied in the respective extruders, and the additives which may be provided as additives may already be contained in the polymer or in the polymer mixture. The melts are simultaneously pressed through a flat die (slot die), and the pressed multilayer melt is drawn off on one or more take-off rolls, the melt cooling and solidifying to form a pre-film.
Das Querstreckverhältnis liegt allgemein im Bereich von 3,0:1 bis 5,0:1, bevorzugt von 3,5:1 bis 4,5:1.The temperature at which the stretching is carried out can vary within a relatively wide range and depends on the desired properties of the film. In general, the longitudinal stretching is carried out at a temperature in the range from 80 to 130 ° C. and the transverse stretching at a temperature in the range from 90 to 150 ° C. The longitudinal stretching ratio is generally in the range from 2.5: 1 to 6: 1, preferably from 3.0: 1 to 5.5: 1. The transverse stretching ratio is generally in the range from 3.0: 1 to 5.0: 1, preferably from 3.5: 1 to 4.5: 1.
In the subsequent heat setting, the film is held at a temperature of approximately 160 to 240 ° C. for a period of approximately 0.1 to 15 s. The film is then wound up in the usual way.

The transparency of the sealable polyester film (B) is greater than 89. The transparency is preferably more than 90 and particularly preferably more than 90.5.
The gloss of the sealable polyester film (B) is greater than 130, in the preferred embodiment greater than 140 and in the particularly preferred embodiment greater than 150.
7 N/15 mm.The cover layer (B ') shows good sealing properties against itself, but in particular against the bottom film (A). At a sealing temperature of well below the melting point of the base layer (B "), the film adheres well to the materials mentioned. After sealing at 200 ° C. Die Tabelle 2 fasst u.a. die wichtigsten erfindungsgemäßen Folieneigenschaften zusammen.
Tabelle 2
Definitionen und VereinbarungenDefinitions and agreements
Heat-sealable (also heat-sealable) is understood to mean the property of a multilayer polyester film containing at least one base layer (B) and containing at least one heat-sealable cover layer (A). The heat-sealable top layer (A) is sealed by means of sealing jaws using heat (110 to 220 ° C) and pressure (1 to 6 bar) in a certain time (0.1 to 4 sec) with a substrate made of thermoplastic, e.g. Menu trays made of polyester or APET, connected without the base layer (B) itself becoming plastic. To achieve this, the polymer of the top layer (A) generally has a significantly lower melting point than the polymer of the base layer. If, for example, polyethylene terephthalate with a melting point of 254 ° C. is used as the polymer for the base layer, the melting point of the heat-sealable cover layer (A) is generally significantly less than 220 ° C. In the present case, the main polymer for the sealable top layer of the top film is almost 100% amorphous.
The following measurement methods were used in the context of the present invention to characterize the raw materials and the films.

Dichtedensity
Die Dichte der Folie wird nach ASTM-D 1505-68, Methode C, bestimmt. The density of the film is determined according to ASTM-D 1505-68, method C.
Trübung, Clarity und TransparenzTurbidity, clarity and transparency
The measurement on the polyester films is carried out on the Hazegard Hazemeter XL-211 from BYK Gardner. The Hölz turbidity was determined according to ASTM-D 1003-61, method A. Clarity is measured according to ASTM-D 1003 using Hazeguard, but now at the "clarity port" of the measuring device. The transparency is measured in accordance with ASTM-D 1033-61, method A. All measurements are carried out directly on the film after production.
Glanz 20°Gloss 20 °
The gloss is determined in accordance with DIN 67530. The reflector value is measured as an optical parameter for the surface of a film. Based on the standards ASTM-D 523-78 and ISO 2813, an angle of incidence of 20 ° is set. A light beam hits the level test surface and at the set angle of incidence is reflected or scattered by it. The light rays striking the photoelectronic receiver are displayed as a proportional electrical quantity. The measured value is dimensionless and must be specified with the angle of incidence.
The standard viscosity in dilute solution SV, based on DIN 53 728 part 3, was measured in an Ubbelohde viscometer at (25 ± 0.05) ° C. Dichloroacetic acid (DCE) was used as the solvent. The concentration of the dissolved polymer was 1 g polymer / 100 mL pure solvent. The polymer was dissolved at 60 ° C. for 1 hour. If the samples were not completely dissolved after this time, up to two dissolution attempts were carried out for 40 minutes each at 80 ° C. and the solutions were then centrifuged for 1 hour at a speed of 4100 min -1 .
Mittlerer Partikeldurchmessers d50 Average particle diameter d 50
The average diameter d 50 is determined using the Malvern Master Sizer 2000 on the particle to be used. For this purpose, the samples are placed in a cuvette with water and this is then placed in the measuring device. The dispersion is analyzed by laser and the particle size distribution is determined from the signal by comparison with a calibration curve. The particle size distribution is characterized by two parameters, the median value d 50 (= position measure for the mean value) and the scatter measure, the so-called SPAN98 (= measure for the scatter of the particle diameter). The measuring process is automatic and also includes the mathematical determination of the d 50 value. The d 50 value is defined by definition from the (relative) sum curve of the particle size distribution: the intersection of the 50% ordinate value with the sum curve provides the desired d 50 value on the abscissa axis.
Measurements on the film produced using these particles result in a 15-25% lower d 50 value than the particles used.
The puncture resistance (≈ puncture test) is measured according to EN 14477. In the packaging sector, exposure to hard, pointed or angular objects is an important factor. Knowing the puncture resistance is interesting if the films as packaging material such. B. for food or for sharp-edged parts. With the puncture test according to EN 14477, this behavior is measured in relation to a tip with a diameter of 0.8 mm. This attempt is also known as the Parking Pen Test / Parker Pen Exam.

Bestimmung der Barriereeigenschaften Determination of the barrier properties
The water vapor permeability (WVTR) was determined on foils of different thicknesses at 23 ° C and 85% r. F. measured according to ISO 15106-3. The oxygen barrier (OTR) was measured using an OXTRAN® 100 from Mocon Modern Controls (USA) in accordance with ISO 15105-2, Annex A, 23.0 ° C / 50% RH. The OTR was also measured on foils of different thicknesses.
Siegelnahtfestigkeit (DIN 55529)Seal seam strength (DIN 55529)
To determine the seal seam strength of the top film (B) against itself, two 15 mm wide film strips of the film according to the invention were placed on top of one another and at 200 ° C., a time of 3 s and a “sealing pressure” of 460 N (device: Brugger type NDS, one-sided heated sealing jaw) pressed together. In order to avoid sticking to the sealing jaw, a 12 μm thick crystalline polyester film was placed between the film according to the invention and the sealing jaw. The seal seam strength (maximum force) was determined at a pull-off angle of 90 ° (90 ° peel method) at a speed of 200 mm / min.
To determine the seal seam strength of the top film (B) compared to the bottom film (A), a 15 mm wide film strip with the amorphous side was placed on a strip of the same size on the bottom film (A). The seal seam strength (maximum force) was determined on the basis of the rigidity of the substrate at a pull-off angle of 180 °. One can speak of a seal if the measured force is> 1 N / 15 mm.
The invention is explained in more detail below with the aid of examples.

The thickness of the film was 96 µm. For this purpose, chips from the copolymer were fed to the extruder for the production of the bottom film. The copolymer was melted and homogenized in the extruder in accordance with the process conditions listed in the table below.
The mold was cooled and the thermoformed bottom sheet (A) was ejected from the mold. A portion of pork was placed in the cavity and the top sheet (B) was placed on top of the bottom sheet (A). The top film (B) was placed on the bottom film (A) in such a way that the heat-sealable surface (B ') of the top film (B) was in contact with the portion of meat and the bottom film (A). The heat sealing was carried out on the same machine at a temperature of 160 ° C. for 2 s at a pressure of 2 bar. The portion of meat weighed about 1000 g. The package was placed in a conventional oven and cooked at 220 ° C for 60 minutes. The desired self-venting was observed after about 10 minutes. At the end of the cooking cycle, the top film (B) was manually removed from the bottom film (A) of the packaging without tearing one of the two films. The meat had cooked and turned crispy brown.
Beispiel 2Example 2
Compared to Example 1, only the manufacturing process for the lower film (A) was modified. The convergence in fixation was now 1.75%, in example 1 it was 0%. The overall result was similar, the puncture resistance of the lower film (A) was slightly increased.
Vergleichsbeispiel 1Comparative Example 1
In comparison to Example 1, the proportion of isophthalate in the lower film (A) was reduced to 5.0 mol%; everything else left the same.
