Description
The present invention relates to a method for sterile use of a surgical microscope using a drape. In addition, the invention relates to a drape and a surgical microscope system.
Drape is a sterile disposable sheath in surgery. The function of the Drapes is to separate non-sterile equipment from the sterile room. This avoids the risk that persons dressed in sterile clothes come into contact with non-sterile surfaces. For example, surgical microscopes are wrapped with a drape together with a part of the surgical microscope holding stand, on the other hand, the air is sucked from the space between the drape on the one hand and the surgical microscope and the part of the tripod so that it fits tightly to the surgical microscope and the part of the tripod clings. The sterile-dressed persons can use the surgical microscope without being contaminated with pathogens.
A drape is sterilized after production and packaged sterile. The type of packaging is designed so that a surgical microscope can be wrapped with the drape, without touching surfaces that are not sterile. Sterile use of the surgical microscope during surgery is guaranteed.
After a drape is removed from the surgical microscope, the drape should be discarded or recycled. Disposal or recycling of the drape is at the discretion of the physician, assistants, or personnel responsible for cleaning the surgical microscope. Due to a high workload of the medical staff or due to other circumstances, such as the lack of financial resources, situations may occur in which the disposal or recycling of the Drapes is not always made. If not disposed of properly, there is always a risk that the drape could be used again. This carries a high risk of transmission of pathogens.

It is an object of the present invention to provide an advantageous method for sterile use of a surgical microscope using a drape. Another object of the present invention is to provide a drape suitable for the application of the method and a surgical microscope system suitable for the use of the method.
The first object is achieved by a method according to claim 1, the second object is achieved by a drape according to claim 8 and the third object is achieved by a surgical microscope system according to claim 17. The dependent claims contain advantageous embodiments of the present invention.
According to the invention, a method for the sterile use of a surgical microscope using a drape is provided. In the method, a drape is provided with a readable and writable data memory associated therewith, on which data about the usage state of the drape is stored. The data storage can be arranged, for example, on the drape itself or on the packaging of the drape. He can also be a drape enclosed be an independent element. Furthermore, a surgical microscope system is provided that includes a surgical microscope, a communication unit, and a release unit. The communication unit is on the one hand designed to read out the data stored on the data memory of the Drapes data on the use state of the Drapes. On the other hand, it is designed to describe the data memory of the Drapes with data. The release unit is adapted to release the surgical microscope for use. The release occurs when the data read out about the usage state of the drape indicates that the drape is unused. Upon proper use of the drape, the communication unit reads out the data on the usage state of the drape from the data memory, and the operation microscope system is released for use when the data on the usage state of the drape indicates that the drape is unused. The data store of the Drapes will now be described with data indicating that the drape has been used.
A reuse of a used Drapes can be prevented. The first use of a drape on a surgical microscope system leads to a description of the data memory of the drape. The drape is now marked as used. A new readout of the data memory of the Drapes indicates from now on an already made use of. Because the information about the state of use of the drape is stored on the drape itself, another surgical microscope system can also recognize that the drape has already been used. If, as in the prior art, only an identification code of the drape were compared with stored identification codes of previously used drapes, only if the drape had previously been used on the same surgical microscope system would it be possible to recognize the drape as already used. On the other hand, if it has previously been used on another surgical microscope system, it can not be recognized from the comparison of the identification code of the drape with the identification codes stored in the current surgical microscope system that the drape has already been used. The present invention therefore reduces the risk of using a previously used drape as compared to the prior art.
According to one embodiment of the method according to the invention, the operating microscope system provided comprises a tripod. Reading and writing to the data memory is done while the surgical microscope and parts of the tripod are wrapped in drape.
According to one embodiment of the method according to the invention, the data on the state of use of the Drapes are stored encrypted in the data memory of the Drapes. The communication unit is then designed to decrypt the data read from the data memory of the drape. Furthermore, the communication unit is designed to encrypt the data to be written on the data memory of the drape. This can complicate a deliberate abuse.
According to one embodiment of the method according to the invention, the data on the state of use of the Drapes are read out of the data memory by means of short-range electromagnetic fields. Furthermore, the data to be written into the data memory are also written into the memory by means of short-range electromagnetic alternating fields. By using short-range electromagnetic alternating fields, a situation can be prevented in which the drape is not used as intended. Whether it is due to incorrect attachment of the drape to the surgical microscope system or only by "lying next to" the drape next to the surgical microscope system, in both cases operation of the surgical microscope system is prevented, since no data exchange can take place due to the distance between the data memory and the communication unit , In addition, interference with neighboring devices can be avoided.
According to one embodiment of the method according to the invention, the readout of the data memory of the Drapes by means of the communication unit is carried out continuously or periodically. Furthermore, the writing of the data memory can also take place continuously or periodically. Improper or unintentional removal of the drape from the surgical microscope system during the operation thus results in an interruption of the data transfer between the communication unit and the data memory. If a missing data transfer is detected, for example, a warning signal can be output. In addition, continuous or periodic writing to the data store provides the ability to log data about the operation.
The data read from the data memory of the drape from the communication unit contain, according to a further embodiment of the inventive method, at least one of the following data sets in addition to the data on the usage status: identification number of the drape, identification code of the chip, serial number, date of manufacture, expiry date, validity period and checksum Dates.
According to a further embodiment of the method according to the invention, the data to be written into the data memory contain at least one of the following data sets in addition to the data on the state of use: validity for use, date of use, name of the patient, duration of stay on the surgical microscope system, type of operation, name of the responsible person Doctor and checksum of the data. One of the above sentences is sufficient to mark the drape as used.
For use in the method of the invention, the present invention provides a drape for a surgical microscope system. The drape includes a readable and writable data memory associated therewith which stores data about the usage state of the drape. According to one embodiment of the drape according to the invention, the data memory of the drape is readable and writable by means of short-range electromagnetic alternating fields. In this case, in a further embodiment of the drape according to the invention, the data memory can be part of an RFID transponder. The drape according to the invention, together with a suitable surgical microscope system, as described below, makes it possible to carry out the method according to the invention described above.
The data memory or the RFID transponder can be arranged on the drape itself, in particular on that side of the drape which is directed in its intended use to the surgical microscope system. The sterility of the data memory or of the RFID transponder is no longer guaranteed in this situation because it touches the surface of the surgical microscope system. However, it is shielded by the drape itself from the sterile area of the room. Alternatively, the data memory or the RFID transponder can be arranged on that side of the drape which, in the intended use, faces away from the surgical microscope system and is sterilized during the sterilization of the drape and is not screened by the drape. As an alternative, the data memory or the RFID transponder can be arranged on the packaging of the drape, or it can be an independent element enclosed in the drape. This also prevents inadvertent reuse of the drape, since release only takes place when the packaging or the independent element with the data memory is in the vicinity of the communication unit and the data stored in it characterize the drape as being unused.
According to one embodiment of the drape according to the invention, at least one of the following data sets is stored on the data memory of the drape in addition to the data on the usage state: identification number of the drape, identification code of the chip, serial number, date of manufacture, expiry date, validity period or checksum of the data. At least one of these records is stored directly in the production of Drapes in the data storage of the Drapes. These data or data records stored in the data memory of the drape can be encrypted, as has already been described in the context of the method according to the invention.
For use in the method according to the invention, the present invention further provides a surgical microscope system. The operation microscope system includes a surgical microscope, a communication unit, and a release unit.
The communication unit and the release unit are connected to one another in terms of data technology. In this case, the communication unit is designed to read out and describe the data memory of the drape. The release unit in turn is designed to enable or disable the operation of the surgical microscope system on the basis of the data read from the data memory of the drape by the communication unit. According to one embodiment of the surgical microscope system according to the invention, the communication unit can be designed to read and write to the data memory of the drape by means of short-range electromagnetic alternating fields. In particular, it may be an RFID reader and writer. The surgical microscope system according to the invention, together with a drape according to the invention, makes it possible to carry out the method according to the invention described above.
The surgical microscope system may comprise a tripod according to another embodiment of the surgical microscope system. The communication unit is then arranged either on or in the surgical microscope or on or in the stand.
The surgical microscope system according to the invention comprises, according to a further embodiment, a data processing technology connected to the communication unit cryptography module. The cryptographic module decrypts the data read from the data memory of the drape. Furthermore, the cryptographic module encrypts the data to be written into the data memory of the drape.

The present invention has been described in detail by way of illustrative example of an embodiment. However, a person skilled in the art will recognize that deviations from the exemplary embodiment are possible. For example. Other or additional data may be written to the data store in addition to the usage date. In addition, the use of the drape may also be indicated by means other than writing the usage date to memory, for example by setting a value of use stored in memory from 0 to 1. In addition, instead of an RFID transponder and an RFID read and write unit, Bluetooth modules or other transmission paths that enable reading and writing of the data memory can be used. Furthermore, the data storage does not necessarily have to be arranged on the drape itself or on the packaging of the drape. It can also be present as an independent element that is attached to the drape. The invention should therefore not be limited to the embodiment, but only by the appended claims.
