Description
The invention relates to a method for operating an inverter of an electrical machine of a motor vehicle according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
Today, the importance of electromobility is constantly increasing. In order to bring electric mobility further forward, it is crucial that the range of motor vehicles driven at least partially by an electric machine be as large as possible. To achieve this, there are many different approaches. For example, you can increase the battery of a motor vehicle or reduce the weight of the motor vehicle. Furthermore, attempts can be made to minimize losses of electrical energy.
Inverters of electrical machines are known from the state of the art which have three semiconductor switches in a series of switching circuits and three further semiconductor switches in a second series of switching circuits in order to generate the AC voltage for operating the electrical machine from a DC voltage. In this case, the semiconductor switches of both switching rows are switched with the same frequency or clock frequency.
The object of the present invention is to provide a method for switching or operating an inverter of an electrical machine of a motor vehicle, in which the loss of electrical energy during operation is as low as possible.
This object is achieved by the method for operating an inverter with the features of claim 1. Advantageous embodiments with expedient developments of the invention are specified in the remaining claims.
The inventive method is used to operate an inverter of an electric machine of a motor vehicle, which is in particular a battery-powered electric vehicle, a so-called Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) or a vehicle with hybrid drive, a so-called Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV). In this case, the inverter has a first row of switches which has a first semiconductor switch connected to a first phase of the electrical machine, a second semiconductor switch connected to a second phase of the electrical machine and a third semiconductor switch connected to a third phase of the electrical machine. A second series of switching of the inverter comprises a fourth semiconductor switch connected to the first phase of the electric machine, a fifth semiconductor switch connected to the second phase of the electric machine and a sixth semiconductor switch connected to the third phase of the electric machine. In order to keep the loss of electrical energy or a switching loss as low as possible, at least two of the semiconductor switches of one of the rows of switches are switched to a first frequency, while at least one of the semiconductor switches of the other row of switches is switched at a different frequency from the first frequency.
The invention is based on the finding that the insulated gate bipolar transistors frequently used in semiconductor switches cause a large proportion of efficiency losses of the inverter. The inventive method, in particular, these switching losses can be reduced. Isolated gate bipolar transistors are referred to as IGBTs (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) for short. In current switching methods, all IGBTs within the inverter are operated at the same clock frequency. To operate solar inverters and welders, there is a method in which two semiconductor switches each clock with a fundamental wave of the alternating current to be generated in an H-bridge circuit, while the other two semiconductor switches clock with a constant high switching frequency to keep the current ripple low.
Advantageously, in the method according to the invention, the first frequency is smaller than the second frequency. For example, the first frequency corresponds to a fundamental electric wave of the alternating current of the electric machine and has an order of magnitude of less than one kilohertz. The second frequency corresponds to an order of magnitude of 10 kilohertz, for example. The semiconductor switches advantageously have a freewheeling diode and an insulated gate bipolar transistor. According to the invention, the three semiconductor switches of one of the switching rows can advantageously be switched to the first frequency, while the three semiconductor switches of the other row of switching circuits are switched to the second frequency. In this case, the method according to the invention is not limited to electrical machines of a motor vehicle, but can also be applied to inverters of electrical machines outside a motor vehicle.
