Technischer HintergrundTechnical background
Vehicle rear windows are often equipped with electrical appliances mounted on the glass, such as rear window heaters. To make electrical connections to the electrical equipment, a metallic coating is applied by default on a small area on the glass to obtain a metallized surface which is electrically connected to the electrical device, so that then an electrical connector of the electrical device to the metallized surface can be soldered.
In the prior art, the electrical connector is soldered to a leaded (Pb) solder on the metallized surface on the glass. However, the lead's environmental impact has reduced the use of lead and started to use lead-free solder in soldering applications. For example, in some industries, a conventional unleaded solder having a high tin (Sn) content of greater than 80% is used.
However, glass can break. Therefore, the conventional lead-free solder with a high tin content tends to cause cracks in the glass when soldering the electrical equipment on the glass. In addition, when brazing two materials (such as glass and copper) which differ fundamentally in their coefficient of thermal expansion, the solder is subjected to stress both during the cooling of the solder joint and during the subsequent temperature excursions. Therefore, on the one hand, the brazing composition suitable for brazing the electrical equipment on the glass must have a melting point (ie, liquidus temperature) low enough to prevent cracking of the automotive glass during the brazing operation, since a higher melting point and a correspondingly higher processing temperature have the adverse effects increase the uneven coefficient of thermal expansion, since a higher load on the solder during cooling acts. Consequently, the solder must continue to have good ductility. On the other hand, the melting point of the brazing composition must be high enough so that the braze does not start to melt during normal use of the motor vehicle, for example when the car is exposed to the sun or other extremely harsh environmental conditions with the windows closed.
Aus dem Stand der Technik ist bereits eine bleifreie Lotzusammensetzung mit einem Gewichtsanteil von 64,35 % - 65,65 % Indium (In), 29,7 % - 30,3 % Zinn (Sn), 4,05 % - 4,95 % Silber (Ag) und 0,25 % - 0,75 % Kupfer (Cu) (im Folgenden als „65 Indium-Lot“ bezeichnet) bekannt.A lead-free solder composition with a weight fraction of 64.35% - 65.65% indium (In), 29.7% - 30.3% tin (Sn), 4.05% - 4.95 is already known from the prior art % Silver (Ag) and 0.25% - 0.75% copper (Cu) (hereinafter referred to as "65 indium solder").
However, indium-containing solders have a much lower melting point than other solders. For example, the "65 indium solder" has a solidus temperature of 109 ° C against 160 ° C in the case of the lead-containing solder and a liquidus temperature of 127 ° C against 224 ° C in the case of the lead-containing solder. In general, a higher indium content in the solder is responsible for a lower solidus temperature. Some car manufacturers claim that the solder joint should be able to withstand elevated temperatures. Accordingly, a solder having indium content should have a solidus temperature of not less than 120 ° C and a good ductility in a temperature range of -40 ° C to 120 ° C, without any performance degradation.
Further, if a plurality of electrical connectors are close together, soldering of one electrical connector will affect the adjacent soldered electrical connector. Therefore, the solder must have high stability and ductility. Otherwise, it is likely to re-melt and break the adjacent electrical connector.
A solder flux is a necessary additive during soldering. For the above desired solder composition, a suitable soldering flux is needed so that the solder paste consisting of the solder composition and the soldering flux retains its tackiness during the long-term storage. The solder flux does not leave excess residue during soldering so that the soldered circuit board can be easily cleaned.
Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a solder paste consisting of a lead-free solder composition and a soldering flux, wherein the lead-free solder composition 0.02 to 6 wt .-% stibium, 0.03 to 3 wt .-% copper, 0.03 to 8% by weight of bismuth, 30 to 60% by weight of indium, 0.3 to 8% by weight of silver, 5 to 11% by weight of magnesium, 0.1 to 2% by weight of scandium, 0.1 to 1.5% by weight of tantalum and 10 to 45% by weight of tin and the soldering flux 25 to 32% by weight of rosin, 5 to 7% by weight of a mixture of pentanedioic acid and 2-fluorobenzoic acid as organic acid activator , 0.2 to 0.5% by weight of alkylphenol polyoxyethylene surfactant, 0.7 to 0.8% by weight of 1-octyl alcohol as a defoaming agent, 0.5 to 0.7% by weight of hydroquinone as a stabilizer and 20 to 32 wt .-% of a monoalkyl-propylene glycol-based solvent.
The lead-free solder composition has a solidus temperature of not less than 120 ° C, has good ductility and stability, and is therefore suitable for soldering electrical connectors on the metallized surface on the glass. Furthermore, the soldering flux has a high wetting power for the lead-free solders. By the use of the soldering flux, the solder is uniformly distributed and the residues resulting from the welding are water-soluble, so that the printed circuit board has a high insulation resistance after the soldering flux has been removed with water.

As mentioned above, the lead-free solder composition in the solder paste of the present invention has a solidus temperature in the range of 120 ° C to 135 ° C and a liquidus temperature in the range of 130 ° C to 145 ° C. The solidus temperature is defined practically as the temperature at which an alloy begins to melt. Below the solidus temperature, the substance is completely solid, without melting phase. The liquidus temperature is the maximum temperature at which crystals (unmelted metal or alloy) can coexist with the melt. Above the liquidus temperature, the material is homogeneous, consisting only of melt. The processing temperature of the solder is higher than the liquidus temperature by a number of degrees determined by the soldering technique.
The solder composition according to the invention is lead-free and has a working temperature which is higher than that of other solders of the same type, which is usually 105 ° C. In addition, the solder composition according to the invention has much better ductility and stability compared to the lead-free solder composition of the prior art.
The combination of bismuth and copper with other elements improves the overall performance of the brazing composition, including an expected increase in the working temperature of the braze and an improvement in the mechanical properties of the braze under certain conditions.
In some embodiments, the lead-free solder composition may have a solidus temperature in the range of 120 ° C to 135 ° C.
In some embodiments, the lead-free solder composition may further have a liquidus temperature in the range of 130 ° C to 145 ° C.
In some embodiments, the lead-free solder composition may contain 3 to 4 wt% stibium.
In some embodiments, the lead-free solder composition may contain from 4 to 5 weight percent bismuth.
The lead-free solder composition of the present invention has a solidus temperature of not less than 120 ° C, has good ductility and stability, and thus is suitable for soldering electrical connectors on a metallized surface on the glass.
- √: Cracking on adjacent joint does NOT occur during soldering
- X: Cracking on adjacent solder joint occurs during soldering
As is apparent from the above table, cracking of the solder joint formed by the lead-free solder composition of the present invention can be avoided in the subsequent processes when scandium is contained in the solder composition in an amount of 0.1 to 2% by weight. However, when scandium is contained in the solder composition in an amount of less than 0.1% by weight or more than 2% by weight, the ability of the solder to prevent cracking is lowered. In addition, when tantalum is contained in the solder composition in an amount of 0.1 to 1.5% by weight, the solder joint formed by the lead-free solder composition of the present invention has good ductility. However, when tantalum is contained in the solder composition in an amount of less than 0.1% by weight or more than 1.5% by weight, the ductility performance of the solder is lowered.
HochtemperaturlagertestHigh-temperature storage test
The ductility performance of the solder paste described in the embodiments of the invention is tested by a high temperature storage test. In this test, the temperature of a climate chamber was kept constant at 120 ° C. An electrical connector and a metallized surface on which the electrical connector was soldered by means of the solder according to the invention were placed in the climatic chamber and a weight of 6 Newtons was hung on the electrical connector for 24 hours. At the end of the 24 hours, the electrical connector was pulled with a force of 50 N using a digital force gauge for 3 seconds (at room temperature). During the test, no separation of the electrical connector occurred in the form of cracking.
