Description
Insulators of overhead lines have the task to isolate the live conductors from the mast and to mechanically support the conductors. The materials used are the classic insulating materials glass and ceramic. In recent years, plastic insulators z. B. added silicone elastomers. The insulator includes the connecting elements to the conductor cable resp. to the power pole, as well as other metallic fittings in the form of coronary rings and spark gaps. The length of an insulator is determined by the voltage level and by the environmental influences. The higher the pollution, the higher the creepage distances of the insulator. Also weather influences such as ice and snow as well as the sea level are included in this consideration. During operation it is important that the isolator performs its mechanical and electrical task absolutely reliably. A failure usually not only results in a failure of the line, but also a risk from the crash of the conductor cable. An electrical failure is initiated either by external influences (pollution, ice, snow, foreign bodies, fouling) or by mechanical material defects (cracks, voids, defects) and / or by creeping electrical erosion phenomena (partial discharges, inhomogeneous field distribution, corona). While external influences can be recognized by the optical methods described in [0004], they fail in their internal influences. These are recognizable only by sensors that z. B. in the electromagnetic spectrum and also need to be brought in the immediate vicinity of the insulator to allow safe identification and analysis.
The following procedures are common: The insulators are inspected either from the ground, from the mast or from the air. The inspection of the ground takes place with the naked eye or with the aid of binoculars and telephoto lenses. In this case, there is the disadvantage that due to the large distance, no high resolution can be achieved. Due to the limited perspective from the ground, large areas of the insulator are not visible. In addition, only external, gross damage can be seen, such. B. destroyed caps or foreign bodies (branches).
