Abstract

Such hard shell chairs have long been known, with a famous example being the so-called "Plastic Chair" by the designer Charles & Ray Eames. Such hard shell chairs have a seat and a backrest, which are each formed as a hard shell. Another famous example of a hard-shell chair is the "Series 7" chair by designer Fritz Hansen. These historic hard-shell chairs are also on display in the "Werner Löffler Collection", a private collection of historic seating.

A disadvantage of such hard shell chairs was previously the lack of adjustability, since the seat shape was fixed by the shell shape. Of particular importance here is the lack of height adjustment of the backrest.

The invention is therefore based on the object to provide a correspondingly improved hard shell chair.

This object is achieved by a hard shell chair according to the invention according to the main claim.

The hard shell chair according to the invention is distinguished over the prior art in that the backrest is height adjustable. With regard to the materials of the seat and the backrest exist within the scope of the invention, various possibilities. For example, the seat and / or the backrest can be made of laminated wood. Alternatively, however, there is the possibility that the seat and / or the backrest are made of plastic. In addition, material combinations are possible, such as a seat made of laminated wood and a backrest made of plastic.

In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the backrest includes a lower backrest portion and an upper backrest portion, with the lower backrest portion located in the lumbar region of the user while the upper backrest portion supports the user's back.

Here, the lower backrest part is preferably integrally formed on the seat. However, it is within the scope of the invention alternatively also the possibility that the lower back part forms a separate component which is mechanically connected only to the seat.

By contrast, the upper backrest part is preferably a separate component in addition to the lower backrest part. This means that the backrest is not in one piece, but consists of the upper backrest part and the lower backrest part. The upper backrest part is in this case preferably secured by a height adjustment mechanism on the lower backrest part. The height adjustment mechanism in this case allows a displacement of the upper backrest part relative to the lower backrest part.

With regard to the structural realization of the height adjustment mechanism exist within the scope of the invention, various possibilities. For example, the height adjustment mechanism may comprise a rail which is fastened to the front side of the lower backrest part, for example with a screw connection.
