Description
The invention relates to a device and a method for assessing the visual appearance of a coating surface such as in particular a painted sheet or plastic surface of a motor vehicle.
An important quality aspect of coating surfaces such as painted sheet or plastic surfaces of a motor vehicle is their visual appearance (appearance). Potential buyers of motor vehicles thereby subjectively evaluate the coating structure of the coating surface or the presence and the degree of manifestation of a visually perceivable waviness (orange peel structure), which may influence the purchase decision.
In the automotive industry, there is currently essentially the visual assessment of painted sheet and plastic surfaces (coating surfaces) as well as the metrological evaluation by means of e.g. Wave scan. In the second case, the surface structure of the respective coating surface is numerically validated. Depending on the result of both assessments, it is defined whether an adjustment of the parameters in the painting process and in the paint systems is necessary in order to improve or correct the quality of the paint application or the optimization of the appearance.
The structure measurement by means of a wave scanning device commonly used in automotive technology is realized by measuring and evaluating reflected wavelengths. From this, a value for the appearance is generated via mathematical formulas. However, these values do not always correspond to the actual appearance of the coating surface to be evaluated, because the measured values do not reflect the impression of the human eye. Thus, despite the measured values in the tolerance range, buyers can perceive the coating surface as not pleasing and therefore not in order due to the subjective perception of their eyes. That is, today's metrology is of limited use for properly evaluating the visual appearance of a coating surface.

It is an object of the invention to provide a device and a method which make it possible to evaluate the visual appearance of a coating surface in a manner better suited to the perception of the human eye.
This is achieved with a device according to
According to the invention, a device (evaluation device) for evaluating the visual appearance of a reflective coating surface comprises a light source, a projection pattern, an image acquisition unit and an evaluation device. The light source is set up, so that a beam path of this can be aligned with the coating surface. The projection pattern is arranged in the beam path of the light source, so that an image of the projection pattern can be projected onto the coating surface. The image acquisition unit is set up to capture the image of the projection pattern and to generate actual image data therefrom. The evaluation device is connected to the image acquisition unit for image data transmission. In the evaluation device ideal image data are stored, which in advance e.g. were generated by the image acquisition unit from a captured image of the projection pattern, which was projected onto an ideal surface predetermined with regard to the visual appearance. The evaluation device is set up to determine a degree of agreement of the actual image data with the ideal image data by comparing the actual image data with the ideal image data of the projection pattern and to output an evaluation result on the basis of the degree of agreement. The projection pattern is preferably formed by a grid, in particular a line grid.
With the evaluation device according to the invention, the coating structure or the image sharpness of the coating surface are measured by means of the reflected images of the projection pattern (comparison ideal reflection to real reflection). The actual image data reflects the reality and is compared with a unique reference in the form of the ideal image data. As an ideal structure or visual appearance of a coating surface, experience has shown that the human eye perceives an ideally reflecting surface without any imperfections, such as surface waviness (organ skin structure). Such an ideal surface may e.g. by special manufacturing processes with a so-called piano finish or e.g. also be provided with an ideal mirror surface without any imperfections.
With the evaluation device according to the invention, which compares the image sharpness of an ideal surface perceived by the human eye to the image sharpness of a coating surface to be evaluated and outputs the degree of matching as an evaluation result, a better visual perception of the coating surface is thus made possible for the perception of the human eye.
Preferably, an ideal mirror surface without any imperfections is used as the ideal surface, so that the ideal image data stored in the evaluation device was generated from an image of the projection pattern which was projected onto the ideal mirror surface as the ideal surface.
According to one embodiment of the invention, at least one lower limit value for the degree of agreement of the actual image data with the ideal image data is stored in the evaluation device. In this case, the evaluation device is set up to compare the determined degree of agreement with the lower limit value and to output a warning signal as part of the evaluation result if the determined degree of agreement is less than the lower limit value. Preferably, the determined degree of matching is a percentage value, the lower limit being at least about 60 percent.
The warning signal indicates to an evaluator operator that an error clearing process should be initiated immediately. Thus, each set quality standards for the visual appearance of the coating surface can be secured and rework can be avoided.
According to a further embodiment of the invention, a plurality of limit values for the degree of agreement of the actual image data with the ideal image data are stored in the evaluation device, which define at least two match ranges. In this case, the evaluation device is set up to assign the determined degree of agreement in terms of value to one of the matching ranges and to output as a component of the evaluation result an output signal that is individual for the respective matching range.
By providing a plurality of thresholds defining the at least two match ranges, it is possible to advantageously obtain e.g. an early warning will be realized. That is, it may e.g. If an upper limit value is undershot, it is signaled at an early stage that the coating surface just meets the quality requirements, ie should be intensively monitored and, if necessary, improved. If the lower limit value is undershot, it can then be signaled that the coating surface does not meet the quality requirements and therefore an error clearing process should be initiated immediately.
- Projecting a projection pattern onto an ideal surface predetermined with regard to the visual appearance and generating ideal image data from the projection of the projection pattern projected onto the ideal surface,
- Projecting the projection pattern onto the coating surface and generating the actual image data from the projection of the projection pattern projected onto the coating surface,
- Determining the degree of agreement of the actual image data with the ideal image data of the projection pattern by comparing the actual image data with the ideal image data, and
- - Output of the evaluation result on the basis of the degree of agreement.
Even with the evaluation method according to the invention, which compares the image sharpness of an ideally perceived by the human eye ideal surface with the image sharpness of a coating surface to be evaluated and outputs the degree of agreement as a result of evaluation, thus a perception of the human eye better imitated assessment of the visual appearance of the coating surface is made possible.
In the evaluation method, an ideal mirror surface is preferably used as the ideal surface for generating the ideal image data. As already mentioned above, experience has shown that an ideal reflecting surface, like an ideal mirror without any imperfections, is perceived by the human eye as the ideal structure or visual appearance of a coating surface. Thus, such an ideal mirror surface is particularly well suited as an ideal surface according to the invention.
According to an embodiment of the invention, in the evaluation method, a lower limit for the degree of agreement of the actual image data with the ideal image data is determined, the determined degree of agreement is compared with the lower limit value and a warning signal is output as a component of the evaluation result, if the determined degree of matching is less than the lower limit value is.
The warning signal indicates to a user of the evaluation procedure that an error clearing process should be initiated immediately. Thus, each set quality standards for the visual appearance of the coating surface can be secured and rework can be avoided.
According to another embodiment of the invention, in the evaluation method, a plurality of threshold values for the degree of coincidence of the actual image data with the ideal image data is determined to define at least two coincidence ranges; if an individual output signal is determined for each of the coincidence ranges, the determined coincidence degree is assigned to one of the coincidence ranges by value as a component of the evaluation result, the output signal of the respective match area output.
By determining a plurality of thresholds defining the at least two match ranges, it may be advantageous to use e.g. an early warning will be realized.
The invention expressly extends to such embodiments, which are not given by combinations of features of explicit back references of the claims, whereby the disclosed features of the invention - as far as is technically feasible - can be combined with each other.
