Description
Technisches Gebiet Technical area
The invention relates to a method for operating a radar sensor, in particular for a motor vehicle.
Stand der Technik State of the art
In motor vehicles, more and more complex sensors are being used. Such sensors are used for example in driver assistance systems, for example, to reliably detect oncoming vehicles already at greater distances and to determine their position and direction of movement as accurately as possible.
In this case radar signals are transmitted by the radar sensor in a continuous sequence from a transmitting antenna. These emitted radar signals are reflected at objects and the reflected radar signals are received by the radar sensor via a receiving antenna and further processed in the radar sensor. The further processing includes, inter alia, a Fourier analysis for the transformation into the frequency space in order to determine therefrom the position, direction and speed of the object or of the objects. With the ever-increasing number of radar signals emitted, absolutely and per unit of time, in the further processing in the radar sensor the computational effort to be operated and the required storage capacity increases. It turns out that the associated storage capacity required and also the computing power with the increasing resolution of such sensors always increases, which drives up the costs and at the same time also leads to limits of technical feasibility. Therefore, the increase in the resolution of such sensors is not readily feasible without encountering the existing in particular in motor vehicle cost limits.

Therefore, it is the object of the present invention to provide a method for operating a radar sensor, which nevertheless allows a simple and cost-effective implementation with an improved resolution of the radar sensor.
The object of the present invention is achieved with the features of
An embodiment of the invention relates to a method for operating a radar sensor, by means of which radar signals are emitted by a transmitting antenna, which are reflected by objects, wherein the radar sensor receives the reflected radar signals by means of a receiving antenna and further processed in a control unit, wherein for processing one of the received radar signals the filter diagonalization method (FDM) is applied. The Filter Diagonalization (FDM) method allows improved resolution of objects from the received signals over the Fourier method, thereby providing improved resolution for a given signal overhead.
An embodiment of the invention further relates to a method for operating a radar sensor by means of which radar signals are emitted by a transmitting antenna, which are reflected by objects, the radar sensor receives the reflected radar signals by means of a receiving antenna and further processed in a control unit, wherein the emitted radar signals as predetermined Number of time-limited radar signal sequences are formed, wherein for processing one of the received radar signals, the Filterdiagonalisierungsverfahren (FDM), the MUSIC method or the ESPRIT method is applied. By reducing the emitted radar signals a fundamental reduction of the resolution is caused, which is at least partially canceled by the methods used, but the amount of data is significantly reduced, which saves space.
It is particularly advantageous if the emitted radar signals are transmitted as what are known as chirp signals, the frequency of the signal changing chronologically with a chirp signal, as it is reduced or increased.
It is also advantageous if the emitted radar signals have a predetermined limited time duration. In addition, the required storage space can be reduced compared to a continuous signal.
It is also advantageous if the emitted radar signals are formed as a block of a plurality of time-limited radar signals. This improves resolution while reducing memory requirements.
It is also advantageous if the emitted radar signals are formed from a plurality of blocks of a plurality of time-limited radar signals, wherein the blocks are offset in time from one another. This also improves resolution while reducing memory requirements.
It is particularly advantageous if there is a waiting time between two blocks in which no radar signals are transmitted. this leads to turn to a reduction of the required storage space.
It is also expedient if the emitted radar signals are transmitted by different transmitting antennas.
Furthermore, it is advantageous for the emitted radar signals to be transmitted by different transmitting antennas, with each transmitting antenna emitting a block of radar signals at the same time or with a time offset.
In order to reduce the required memory requirement, it is particularly advantageous if the number of emitted radar signals per block is set to 2, 4, 8, 12 or 16 or 2n signals with n = 0 or 1 to 20.
It is also advantageous if the time interval between the blocks is greater than the duration of a block.
Advantageous developments of the present invention are described in the subclaims and the following description of the figures.
