Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method and a device for the treatment of nitrogen-containing biomass, in particular biomass containing chicken excrement.
In current worldwide practice, ammonia emissions, for example from chicken feces containing uric acid, are suppressed as quickly as possible by drying the feces. The drying process begins immediately after the chicken droppings have been placed on a conveyor belt in the cages. The fresh chicken droppings are finally completely dried to reduce ammonia emission to almost zero. Ammonia is a toxic substance that can damage plant growth around laying hen or broiler stables.
Broilers and laying hens spend between 70 and 200 g of feces per day and animal. The nitrogen content in chicken manure of 3 to 6% in the dry matter is one of the highest of all feces. Chicken droppings emit a strong smell of ammonia. At least 50% of the total nitrogen content, up to 80% in many chicken gut samples, is present as uric acid, which makes the chicken feces a rich source of ammonia.
Previously known measures often aim to eliminate the emissions of ammonia. The effort involved is substantial and can ultimately only be successful if the chicken droppings are completely dried.

There are both national and European efforts to reduce nitrogen emissions from poultry farming. The fermentation of ammonia, d. H. the production of ammonia by microorganisms or enzymes can make a significant contribution to the reduction of emissions in animal husbandry, in particular poultry production.
A combination of the ammonia fermentation with the biogas fermentation would be advantageous in the utilization of nitrogen-containing biomass, in particular biomass containing chicken dung. The ammonia fermentation and the biogas fermentation differ in particular by the capabilities of the respective microorganisms. The microorganisms in the Ammoniakfermentation, which belong to a large percentage of the Firmicutes, can live on the degradation products of nitrogen exchange as the sole source of nitrogen and energy, so have a high nitrogen turnover. Firmicutes include aerobic bacteria and anaerobic to aerotolerant clostridia as well as mollicutes.
The microorganisms in the methane fermentation, which belong to the archaea, have acetic acid as the main source of methane formation and thus a high acid conversion. The methanogens are summarized in the classes Methanobacteria, Methanococci and Methanomicrobia.
In ammonia fermentation and biogas fermentation, the microorganisms are at the end of the respective degradation product chain and on the one hand deliver reduced nitrogen (NH 3 ) and, on the other hand, reduced carbon (CH 4 ). For energetic reasons, the reduction of nitrogen to NH 3 is better and occurs before carbon is reduced to CH 4 . Nitrogen is the better proton acceptor than carbon. Therefore, the ammonia producers can exist better in the digestion than the methanogenic microorganisms in the ammonia fermentation.
The microorganisms of ammonia fermentation and the microorganisms of biogas fermentation have different demands on the respective chemical environment. Thus, in the ammonia fermentation, a pH of 8 to 9 is preferred, ie at the pH optimum of the enzymes involved in the ammonia fermentation, while in the biogas fermentation a pH of 7 is preferred. The methanogenic microorganisms can not work properly at a high pH, while the microorganisms in the ammonia fermentation can not work properly at a low pH. The methanogenic microorganisms in the biogas fermentation are inhibited by a low concentration of ammonia, already from 2 g ammonia per liter, even if a certain habituation of the methanogenic microorganisms (up to about 5 g ammonia per liter) can occur.
At a high pH, the equilibrium shifts to volatile NH 3 , at a low pH to the undissociated salt ammonium bicarbonate (NH 4 HCO 3 ).
Under aerobic conditions, bacteria have a doubling time (generation time) of about 0.5 to 2 hours. This is usually associated with high metabolic rate, i. high specific enzyme activities. Under anaerobic conditions, bacteria, especially the methanogens, have a doubling time (generation time) of 2 to 3 weeks. This is usually associated with low metabolic rate, low levels of microorganisms, low enzyme concentration and ultimately low enzyme activities. The residence times in the aerobic ammonia fermentation are from a few hours to about 2 days, which is accompanied by a high enzyme concentration and high enzyme activities. The reaction space can be so dimensioned that the substrate only remains in the reaction space for a few hours to about 2 days.
- 1) Due to the short aerobic conditions doubling time of about 1 hour to 2 days anaerobes with doubling times of about 2 to 4 weeks (equivalent residence time of 2 to 4 weeks or 14 to 30 days) will not be active because they flushed out become. For example, methanogens are completely inhibited by oxygen.
- 2) Another reason why methanogens are not activated in the aerobic ammonia fermentation is the absence of the monomeric substrate acetic acid. Polymeric organic substances such as proteins, starch, cellulose or hemicellulose are not hydrolyzed under the chosen conditions. Thus, there are no monomeric hydrolysis products from which acetic acid could be formed. Biogas is mainly made up of acetic acid.
- 3) One of the chosen conditions is the presence of the monomeric substances, uric acid and urea. These prevent via feedback mechanisms the formation of exoenzymes for the hydrolysis of polymeric substances. The addition of a low concentration of readily degradable material (carbohydrate) can reduce the stress caused by N-limitation.
- 4) The anaerobic hydrolysis of the polymeric ingredients to monomeric materials would be the slowest step in biogas fermentation and requires an optimal pH range of 6 to 6.5, while in ammonia fermentation the pH is greater than 8.
To give a more detailed insight into the course of ammonia fermentation, the degradation of uric acid and urea is briefly explained and compared below.
The uric acid degradation is catalyzed by uricase (uric acid oxidase). This uric acid is oxidized to allantoin. Subsequently, the degradation of allantoin to urea takes place.
Der Harnsäureabbau lässt sich am Beispiel des für Bakterien gültigen Reaktionsschemas darstellen: The uric acid degradation can be illustrated by the example of the reaction scheme valid for bacteria:
Each circle in the reaction scheme symbolizes the degradation to another substance, each catalysed by a specific enzyme, for example allantoicase (allantoin amidohydrolase, EC 3.5.2.5), allantoate amidohydrolase (EC 3.5.3), S - (-) ureidoglycine aminohydrolase (EC 3.5 .3.B1), oxamate ureidoglycolate dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.154), oxamate carbamoyltransferase (EC 2.1.3.5). One or more of the microorganisms have all the necessary enzymes to finally ferment and release ammonia from uric acid or allantoin.
The Michaelis constant (Km) with the unit of concentration indicates the affinity of the enzyme to the substrate. The smaller the value, the higher the affinity. For example, the Km constant of allantoicase should be below 1 (mM / L). Microorganisms which form substantially inferior enzymes, and in which this disadvantage can not be compensated by higher concentrations, are gradually replaced by other microorganisms which are timed in parallel from other sources, e.g. Soils are isolated.
The degradation of uric acid is oxygen-dependent and preferably proceeds aerobically. If this degradation pathway is to take place anaerobically, the microorganisms must find and use a source of oxygen at considerable expense.
The urea degradation can be represented by the following reaction scheme:
It can be seen from the reaction schemes that the ammonia fermentation of uric acid can comprise seven process steps, whereas urea only comprises one process step. Although the uricase with its kinetic values, such as Of course, the Michael constant and the turnover number, the "lead enzyme", which sets the degradation chain in motion, but the large number of other enzymes involved also requires a certain amount of time to carry out the reaction. Thus, the uric acid degradation proceeds much slower than the urea degradation.
It is an object of the invention to provide an improved process and apparatus for treating nitrogen-containing biomass, particularly biomass containing chicken dung. An object of a further development of the invention is to specify an improved process for producing biogas from nitrogen-containing biomass, in which the biomass is subjected to both an ammonia fermentation and a biogas fermentation and, in particular, an inhibition of the biogas fermentation by ammonia is reduced or completely eliminated.
In the method according to the invention for the treatment of nitrogen-containing biomass, in particular biomass containing chicken excrements, the biomass is subjected to an ammonia fermentation at a dry matter content of less than 70%, preferably less than 50%. During the ammonia fermentation, ammonia is removed from the biomass by means of a stripping gas and / or by precipitation, preferably as magnesium ammonium phosphate. By removing ammonia during ammonia fermentation, the equilibrium is shifted towards the production of ammonia. In this way, the biomass is depleted in nitrogen content.
Additionally or alternatively, for the removal of ammonia by means of a stripping gas, ammonia can be removed by a chemical precipitation, preferably as magnesium ammonium phosphate (MAP). For this purpose, the respectively missing chemical component of the biomass can be added. Magnesium can be added as MgO and / or as MgCl 2 . It is also possible to provide Mg ions from a sacrificial electrode. The formed MAP crystals can be made very fine. The formed MAP crystals can grow on packing. The packing may be formed as a rotating packing. The fillers can be switched after stripping or parallel to the stripping. If MAP crystallization surface is offered on already formed crystals, the number of newly formed very fine crystals may decrease. This can facilitate a harvest of the crystals.
In preferred embodiments, the concentration, ie the number of methanogenic microorganisms of the biogas fermentation, if present, during the ammonia fermentation and the removal of ammonia from the biomass is in each case at most 10 4 , preferably at most 10 3 per g of biomass. Urea or uric acid-degrading microorganisms may be contained in the biomass in a total concentration of at least 10 6 , preferably at least 10 7 per g of biomass. Advantageously, the number of ammonia-producing microorganisms during the ammonia fermentation and the removal of ammonia is greater than the number of methanogenic microorganisms of biogas fermentation. Preferably, during the fermentation of ammonia, a biogas fermentation takes place, if at all, only to a small extent. Preferably, during an aerobic ammonia fermentation no, during an anaerobic ammonia fermentation, if at all, only to a small extent, a biogas fermentation take place. Contact with process waters of biogas plants can be excluded. This prevents inoculation with the unwanted anaerobic microbial flora of the biogas process.
The biomass can be added to enzymes, in particular urease and / or uricase. Uricase may preferably be added. Preferably, uric acid-containing biomass may be added. In particular, the enzymes may be involved in urea degradation or uric acid degradation. The enzymes can be used as organic material in high purity or as a largely purified material, ie, in technical purity present material. Preferably, the enzymes may be recovered from dead organic material, such as by drying and milling a mixture of microorganisms. Preferably, the enzymes can be obtained by an ultrasonic disruption of microorganisms. Digestion may increase the concentration of extracellular enzymes in the biomass. Intracellular enzyme concentrations of the enzymes may be between 10 and 80%, preferably between 5 and 50%, of the protein content. The enzyme protein content can be between 5 and 80% of the dry matter content. Of the intracellular enzyme content can be made accessible by process steps of disintegration between 20% and 80%, which then extracellular, ie in or on the ammonia fermentation biomass exposed, may be active.
However, the enzymes can also act in or be produced by living organisms. Thus, in the ammonia fermentation intracellular or extracellular enzymes of microorganisms can be used. Preferably, in the ammonia fermentation microorganisms can be used, which mainly form extracellular enzymes.
H. in any combination, biomass may be included or added from home.
The presence of two or more species of microorganisms has the advantage that the ammonia fermentation system can stabilize and transition to an equilibrium state in any of the possible modes of operation (discontinuous or continuous).
The biomass may be fed before or during the ammonia fermentation at least one substance which increases the formation and / or the activity of enzymes. Preferably, at least one substance can be added which increases uric acid formation and / or its activity. Alternatively or additionally, at least one substance which is necessary for other enzymes may be added in order to break down the compounds of the intermediate steps. Likewise, urease formation and / or activity can be increased.
In order to promote urease activity, at least one trace element, preferably nickel, can be added to the biomass. Nickel can be added, for example, as a salt in a molar ratio of urease: nickel of at most 1: 5, at least 1: 1, preferably 1: 2. The concentration of the added salts may be from 10 -3 to 10 -5 mol / l.
Uricin formation is generally induced by uric acid. The presence of uric acid alone may be sufficient for the formation of the enzyme. However, the biomass may be before or during the Ammonia fermentation at least one carbohydrate are added, which can serve to increase activity. Preferably, readily degradable carbohydrates may be added to the biomass, for example, glucose, fructose, sucrose. In this way, in particular with an N-limited growth, it is possible to promote uric acid formation with high enzyme activity. Most of the microorganisms mentioned above can live on uric acid as the sole source of carbon and nitrogen while producing uricase with good activity. To promote uric acid formation, a small amount of readily degradable carbohydrate can be added to the biomass.
Preferably, not more than 5 moles of carbohydrate are fed per mole of uricase. It is particularly preferable to add 0.1 to 2 moles of carbohydrate per mole of uricase. After the ammonia removal has commenced, ammonia can be removed from the biomass continuously or with one or more interruptions, the respective interruption lasting at most 2 h, preferably 1 h. Particularly preferably, ammonia is removed continuously throughout the duration of the ammonia fermentation, whereby the depletion of the biomass in the nitrogen content is increased.
The ammonia fermentation can be carried out aerobically or anaerobically. In preferred embodiments, the ammonia fermentation may be carried out aerobically or semi-aerobically. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the ammonia fermentation can proceed from allantoin both under aerobic and under anaerobic conditions.
The biomass can be moistened during the ammonia fermentation and / or the stripping gas can be supplied with a moisture content of at least 60%, preferably at least 70%.
The ammonia fermentation may be carried out at a pH of at least 7, preferably at least 8. The ammonia fermentation may be carried out at a pH of at least 9, preferably at most 8.5. An addition of chemicals such as calcium sulfate or alkalis is not required.
Ammonia, which is removed during the ammonia fermentation, can be used as a starting material for a variety of different products, such as fertilizers, explosives, resins, detergents and hair dyes, and pharmaceuticals. Preferably, the removed ammonia may be used to make a nitrogenous fertilizer or a fluid containing at least 40 weight percent ammonia. The removed ammonia can be dissolved in a gas or liquid or further processed in the form of an ammoniated salt. Advantageously, the flexibility and economy of operation can be increased by the production of various fertilizers. By further processing the removed ammonia, the productivity of an operation can be increased compared to using conventional exhaust air purification equipment.
The ammonia fermentation may be formed as a submerged or emerse fermentation. The submerged ammonia fermentation can be carried out by means of suspended microorganisms and / or enzymes. The emerse ammonia fermentation can be carried out by means of microorganisms and / or enzymes fixed and / or immobilized on a support. Preferably, the ammonia fermentation may be formed as a combination of submerged and outer fermentation.
At a dry matter content of liquid biomass of less than 12%, in the ammonia fermentation with coupling of submerged and emersed fermentation, the submerged enzyme-containing biomass may be 0.1% to 30%, preferably 1 to 5%, of the dry matter. At a dry matter content between 20 and 60% in the solid biomass in the dry fermentation, the submerged enzyme-containing biomass may be 0.1% to 30%, preferably 1 to 3%, of the dry matter.
The combination of submersed and emersed fermentation is particularly advantageous for the degradation of uric acid containing fluids and sludges. By a combination of submerged and emersed fermentation, the slower decomposition of uric acid compared to urea degradation can be partially or completely compensated or compensated for by a higher concentration of enzymes. Alone the attention of the enrichment of submersed and in the biofilm carrier-fixed working microorganisms that form extracellular enzymes can significantly increase the conversion rates. It costs those microorganisms, which form only intracellular enzymes, time and energy to transport the respective substance into the cell, to convert it with the intracellular enzyme and then to dislodge it from the cell again. To increase the extracellular enzyme amount can also contribute to a continuous digestion of submersed growing microorganisms, during which intracellular enzymes can be released and act extracellularly. The extracellular enzyme amount in the biomass may be at least 0.1 g / l and at most 5 g / l.
A further subject of the invention is a device with at least one container which contains suspended and / or fixed on a support and / or immobilized microorganisms and / or enzymes for ammonia fermentation. By a device with a container which contains both suspended and fixed on a support and / or immobilized microorganisms and / or enzymes for ammonia fermentation, a submerged and emerse ammonia fermentation can be performed at the same time. Of course, the container may comprise a plurality of carriers. Preferably, the carrier may be formed as a trickling filter, in particular as a disc. Alternatively, the carrier may be formed as a Festbettfüllkörper. One or more such discs may be mounted on a rotatable shaft and at least partially immersed in the biomass. The distance of the discs from each other may depend on the maximum fouling layer thickness of a biofilm and / or the accessibility of the stripping gas. Preferably, the biomass may contain suspended microorganisms and / or enzymes. On the support for fixing and / or immobilization of microorganisms and / or enzymes, a biofilm of microorganisms and / or enzymes may be formed.
Preferably, the carrier can be made of plastic or at least comprise a plastic. Plastics offer increased corrosion protection and are easily colonized by microorganisms. The specific surface area of the support may be between 100 and 700 m 2 per m 3 of light volume.
The serving as a reactor vessel in which the ammonia fermentation takes place, may be formed as a drum. Preferably, the drum is rotatably formed. By means of the drum stripping gas and substrate, such as chicken droppings, come into close contact. The drum can be used in discontinuous and continuous operation.
The ammonia fermentation can be carried out in one or more containers. The containers can be connected in parallel. In each of the containers, the reactions can proceed in the same way. The ammonia fermentation can thus be made quasi-continuous. A gas wash can be used evenly.
Alternatively, different parts of the ammonia fermentation can take place in the containers. In a first container, the enzymatic degradation of uric acid to allantoin done. In this case, no ammonia is released. In further containers, depending on the rate of degradation, from step to step individual steps of the total of 4 to 6 steps to complete degradation to NH 3 and CO 2 can take place successively or simultaneously. In this case, 4 moles of NH 3 can be formed per mole of uric acid. The ammonia from 4 to 5 process steps can be released to a part in each one of the containers.
The individual reaction steps of the ammonia fermentation can take place spatially and / or temporally separated. The spatial and / or temporal separation of the degradation steps may in principle make it possible to set optimal conditions for certain enzymes with regard to the temperature and / or the pH. Likewise, the Strippgaszuführung can be set separately for each reaction step. For example, the conversion of uric acid into allantoin by the enzyme uricase can be carried out in a first container while supplying a gas which merely serves for aeration. In particular, in a continuous process, the mentioned process steps can take place temporally and / or spatially one after the other. During the last stage of the process, fermentation of uric acid to NH 3 and CO 2 , other effluent containing only uric acid may also be added. The biomass can be fed before or during ammonia fermentation substances, which increases the formation and / or the activity of enzymes. In different containers different substances can be supplied. Examples of substances that increase the formation or activity of enzymes are listed above.
A further subject of the invention is a device for treating nitrogenous biomass, in which an ammonia fermentation below a space for keeping animals and / or next to a room for keeping animals is feasible. In particular, the room for keeping animals may be a stable. Preferably, a container can be arranged to save space under the space for keeping animals, which contains suspended and / or fixed on a support and / or immobilized microorganisms and / or enzymes for ammonia fermentation.
According to a preferred embodiment, the container may contain both suspended and immobilized on a carrier and / or immobilized microorganisms and / or enzymes for ammonia fermentation. Both the container and the carrier may be formed as a container or carrier of the subject invention described above. In a preferred embodiment, the device comprises a gas-permeable bottom which limits the space for keeping animals. Through such a bottom, stripping gas may be passed to the container with the microorganisms and / or enzymes suspended and / or immobilized on a carrier and / or immobilized. Stable air can preferably be used as stripping gas. As a result, ammonia emissions from the stable can be collected and the ammonia yield can be increased overall. Alternatively or additionally, stall air may also be used as a stripping gas for a container located adjacent to a space for keeping animals.
The biomass subjected to the ammonia fermentation may preferably contain chicken excrement and more preferably consist exclusively of chicken excrement. Of course, in addition to chicken excrement, the biomass may also contain other biogenic materials, such as sewage sludge, biowaste, manure or manure, especially from cattle and pig farming. Furthermore, the biomass Slaughterhouse waste or waste resulting from the processing of hides or shellfish. Domestic waste or industrial sludge may also be present in the biomass.
By removing ammonia during ammonia fermentation, the equilibrium is shifted towards the production of ammonia. In this way, the depletion of the biomass in the nitrogen content can be increased. The removal of the ammonia preferably takes place by means of a stripping gas, in particular air and / or biogas and / or CO 2 or CO 2 -containing gas and / or combustion exhaust gas and / or stable air. Ammonia can then be separated from the stripping gas by a scrubber. Advantageously, exhaust gases from combined heat and power plants and / or exhaust gases, which are incurred in the treatment of biogas to natural gas quality, are used for stripping the ammonia. When biogas is used as the stripping gas, production of biogas during ammonia fermentation can be reduced or avoided by shifting the equilibrium to the educt side. Of course, a combination of the above-mentioned gases can be used as the stripping gas for ammonia.
With a dry matter content of the biomass greater than 15%, the ammonia fermentation can be carried out as dry fermentation. Advantageously, in the dry fermentation of chicken manure no microorganisms must be supplied from the outside. Preferably, the dry fermentation can be carried out on a conveyor belt. During dry fermentation, ammonia can be removed from the biomass by passing a stripping gas over and / or through the biomass. In this case, the biomass can be circulated, in particular continuously circulated, which in particular the mass transfer between microorganisms and biomass and stripping gas and biomass can be ensured.
The stripping gas may preferably be passed over the biomass at a rate of greater than 0.2 m / s and remove about 50% to 80% of the ammonia formed during the ammonia fermentation from the biomass. The dry fermentation can be carried out at a low negative pressure. The negative pressure may help to remove ammonia from the biomass by both vacuum distillation and stripping.
A slight drying of the biomass during the dry fermentation can be accepted. Preferably, however, the stripping gas is humidified to prevent drying out of the biomass during dry fermentation. For moistening the biomass can be advantageously used urine. In particular, the stripping gas has a moisture content of 60% to 100%. Alternatively, or in addition to wetting the stripping gas, the biomass itself may be humidified during the ammonia fermentation. By moistening the biomass and / or the stripping gas, an activity of the microorganisms can be maintained. Furthermore, ammonia can dissolve in the moisture and thus more efficiently be removed from equilibrium by stripping.
The ammonia fermentation can be configured as a wet fermentation. The dry matter content of the biomass can be below 15%, preferably 1 to 5%. The ammonia fermentation can be carried out by means of microorganisms and / or enzymes suspended in the biomass. The ammonia fermentation may alternatively or additionally be carried out by means of microorganisms and / or enzymes fixed and / or immobilized on a support. During this embodiment of the ammonia fermentation, ammonia may be removed from the biomass by passing a stripping gas through both the liquid biomass, in particular bubbling, and passing it through the high surface area support used for emersion fermentation. This carrier may contribute to its aeration and mechanical circulation when immersed in the liquid biomass.
Der weitere Erfindungsgegenstand lautet somit:A subject of the invention is furthermore a process for the treatment of nitrogen-containing biomass, in particular biomass containing chicken dung, having the feature a) of claim 1 and the further feature that the ammonia fermentation is effected by means of microorganisms and / or enzymes suspended and / or immobilized on a carrier is performed, d. H. a method in which this feature replaces the feature b) of claim 1. However, the further subject of the invention can advantageously be supplemented by feature b) of claim 1 of the present application. The further subject of the invention is thus:

- (a) the biomass is subjected to ammonia fermentation at a dry matter content of less than 70%, in particular a dry matter content of less than 50%;
- b) the ammonia fermentation is carried out by means of microorganisms and / or enzymes suspended and / or immobilized on a support and / or immobilized;

This further subject of the invention is further developed by each of the further features disclosed herein, individually and in any combination of features.
The enzyme which is suspended or immobilized on a carrier and / or immobilized may in particular be urease or uricase. Optionally, other enzymes such as coenzymes may be suspended or fixed on a carrier and / or immobilized. Furthermore, cofactors or coferments can be fixed and / or immobilized on the support. In particular, the enzymes may be involved in urea degradation or uric acid degradation. The enzymes can be used as organic material in high purity or as a largely purified material, ie, in technical purity present material. The enzymes can be recovered from dead organic material, such as by drying and milling, a bacterial mixture. In particular, the enzymes can be obtained by mechanical disruption of a bacterial mixture. Particularly preferably, the enzymes can be obtained by ultrasonic disruption. In ammonia fermentation, however, the enzymes can also act in living organisms by fixing and / or immobilizing microorganisms on a support without being fixed to surfaces. Through the use of microorganisms and / or enzymes fixed and / or immobilized on a support, an ammonia yield can be achieved which exceeds the ammonia yield of a mere stripping.
The ammonia fermentation by means of microorganisms and / or enzymes immobilized on a support and / or immobilized can be carried out in particular in a stirred vessel. In preferred embodiments, the carrier can comprise inert material, in particular plastic or alginate, and / or be porous. The carrier can be formed by a stationary carrier, in particular a fixed bed. Furthermore, the carrier may be formed by the biomass itself. This applies in particular to an ammonia fermentation as dry fermentation. Alternatively or additionally, a carrier which is suspended in the biomass and separated from the biomass after the ammonia fermentation, in particular by means of gravity separation, can be used.
The fixation and / or immobilization of the microorganisms and / or enzymes can take place on inner and / or outer surfaces of the carrier. Before the wet fermentation, the biomass can be freed of suspended matter, in particular by means of a press screw separator. The ammonia fermentation can then be carried out on a biomass consisting essentially of urine. In this case, an ammonia fermentation by means of carrier-fixed and / or immobilized microorganisms is particularly advantageous when the carrier is suspended in the biomass.
The microorganisms and / or enzymes fixed and / or immobilized on a carrier can be separated after the ammonia fermentation, in particular by means of gravity separation, for example in a settler, and fed again to a nitrogen-containing biomass. The ammonia fermentation by means of microorganisms and / or enzymes fixed and / or immobilized on a carrier is particularly suitable for the ammonia fermentation of urine. The enzyme urease is particularly preferably used.
As described above, the ammonia fermentation may be formed as dry fermentation or wet fermentation. The ammonia fermentation can be carried out under mesophilic or thermophilic conditions. In particular, the ammonia fermentation at a temperature of 30 ° C to 75 ° C, preferably from 35 ° C to 60 ° C, are performed.
In a preferred embodiment, the biomass depleted in the nitrogen content by the ammonia fermentation can be subjected to a biogas fermentation in a subsequent step. The nitrogen-containing biomass can thus be depleted in a first step by a separate self-contained ammonia fermentation in the nitrogen content and subjected to a biogas fermentation in a second step. In this way, a generation of biogas from biomass with a high nitrogen content can be made possible. In particular, a generation of biogas from biomass can be made possible, which consists exclusively of chicken excrement.
The ammonia fermentation can be carried out as a first process step. The ammonia fermentation can form an independent process and can be the first step of all process steps. In this way, the ammonia fermentation can be an optimal pretreatment of the biomass for any subsequent process steps, be it in connection with a technologically and economically optimized biogas process, be it the further biomass management (BM), which involves greatly reduced or no longer existing ammonia emissions benefits. The BM can include all short- and medium-term movements, storage and storage in appropriate containers at the place of formation of the liquid and / or solid biomass and the transport to and on the place of use, the latter, for example, the application on the field as fertilizer.
By means of an ammonia fermentation upstream of the biogas fermentation, the disadvantages of a high ammonia content during the biogas fermentation can be eliminated. Preference is given to using those microorganisms which have a high enzyme concentration and enzyme activity with respect to the ammonia fermentation or which set such conditions in the process of the ammonia fermentation. The aerobic ammonia fermentation of urea or uric acid can be up to 50 times faster than the anaerobic fermentation in a biogas plant.
In preferred embodiments, the ammonia fermentation and biogas fermentation may be performed in separate steps, preferably in separate devices. Thus, the ammonia fermentation can be carried out directly on a conveyor belt or in a stirred vessel. The biogas fermentation can be carried out independently in a first or second stirred vessel.
By ammonia fermentation, the nitrogen content of the biomass can be reduced to at least half to one quarter of the original nitrogen content. In this way, inhibition of the methanogenic microorganisms in the biogas fermentation can be reduced or avoided. In particular, an inhibition threshold concentration of 5 g of ammonia per liter in the biogas plant can be permanently undershot to no longer inhibiting values.
With the help of ammonia fermentation chicken excrements can be used as monosubstrate in biogas plants. High energy and drying costs for the drying of chicken excrement can be reduced or avoided. In particular, a poisoning of a biogas fermenter can be avoided by ammonia, which could have a failure of the biogas plant of several months result. The liquid digestate produced during the process can be used directly for the dilution of biomass. Due to the low nitrogen concentration, this eliminates a costly treatment of the digested substances by evaporation or with ultrafiltration or membrane processes such as reverse osmosis. Furthermore, due to the upstream ammonia fermentation, the fermenter space in biogas fermentation can be reduced by up to 50%. Advantageously, the storage space, which must be provided for a storage period of at least 180 days, can be reduced.
Preferably, no other fermentation process takes place during the ammonia fermentation. In particular, the ammonia fermentation has a duration of 10 minutes to 48 hours, preferably from one hour to five hours. The duration of the ammonia fermentation can be adjusted in particular so that a loss of organic to biodegradable mass is as low as possible.
In particular, not all ammoniacal nitrogen (GAS-N, in English TAN, Total Ammoniacal Nitrogen) is converted to ammonia during ammonia fermentation. In preferred embodiments, between 20 and 80% of the total ammoniacal nitrogen is converted to ammonia. Advantageously, a portion of the total ammoniacal nitrogen may be left in the substrate to adjust a particular carbon / nitrogen ratio. In particular, the ammonia fermentation can increase the carbon content compared to the nitrogen content. In this way, in particular, low-carbon urine can be depleted in the nitrogen content and then used for a biogas fermentation.
Another subject of the invention is a method for producing biogas from biomass, in which the biomass is heated by means of a warm biogas stream, in particular preheated. The process does not have to include ammonia fermentation, but can advantageously be supplemented by ammonia fermentation. This further subject of the invention is further developed by each of the further features disclosed herein, individually and in any combination of features.
At least part of the biogas produced in the biogas fermentation can be used to heat the biomass. The heating of the biomass can be carried out directly by means of flowing or circulating or overflowing the biomass with a warm biogas stream and / or indirectly, in particular by means of at least one heat exchanger for indirect heat exchange. Biogas from a fermenter is usually saturated with moisture. When warm biogas comes into contact with the colder biomass, for example as stripping gas for stripping ammonia, the condensation of water vapor releases energy. This energy can be used to heat the colder biomass.
Furthermore, can be dispensed with a dehumidification of the biogas by cooling, such as with a Kompressionskälteaggregat. Dehumidification of biogas by cooling is usually required to prevent condensation in pipelines. Furthermore, dehumidification by cooling may be necessary to provide a biogas for charging cogeneration plants, which has a reduced moisture content of 50 to 80%. The elimination of a compression refrigeration unit, the own power consumption of a biogas plant can be significantly reduced. In addition, an amount of heat available for sale of the biogas plant can be increased.
In a preferred embodiment, a warm, moisture-saturated biogas stream may be passed through a biomass in a gas-liquid heat exchanger. Advantageously, a gas-liquid heat exchanger is more efficient than a gas-gas heat exchanger. In this way, the biomass can be preheated for further processing. In particular, the cooled biogas stream can then be passed to a second heat exchanger.
The second heat exchanger may preferably be formed as an indirect gas-liquid heat exchanger. The second heat exchanger can heat the cooled biogas stream, which can then be further processed as a reheated biogas stream. In this case, the moisture content of the cooled biogas stream can be further reduced. As a heat source for heating the cooled biogas stream can be used warm ausgefaultes substrate. Alternatively, the return water of a combined heat and power plant can be used as a heat source for heating the cooled biogas stream.
