Description
The invention relates to a multilayer laminate of a viewing material and at least two pressure-sensitive adhesive layers. The pressure-sensitive adhesive layers each comprise a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition.
Pressure-sensitive adhesives are used for the production of self-adhesive articles, such as labels, adhesive tapes or self-adhesive films. As a rule, the self-adhesive articles consist of several layers, in particular a viewing material, a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer and a removable release layer, which protects the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer until it is used.
A conventional pressure-sensitive adhesive label structure, also known as an adhesive bond, is provided with a viewing material, an adhesive layer which is permanently anchored to the viewing material, and an anti-adhesive layer facing the adhesive layer, which in turn is permanently anchored to a cover material.
Basically, it is known in the prior art, aufzubeschichten in such a high-speed coating devices corresponding pressure sensitive adhesives on a release or visual layer, this low-cost systems are often used. From an ecological point of view and also for safety aspects, aqueous systems, eg. As acrylate, preferably used. In this process, various methods are used in the production of pressure-sensitive adhesive labels, such as pressure chamber doctor blade or curtain coater. In most cases only a layer of a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition is coated in the form of a layer. The disadvantage here, however, in the use of the abovementioned acrylate dispersions, that due to their structure, only a limited mechanical, thermal and chemical resistance results.
Starting from the known prior art, it is an object of the invention to provide a multilayer laminate, wherein the laminate is to be used in particular for a pressure-sensitive adhesive label and can be equipped with a cover, in which a non-destructive detachment of the laminate even after a contact time t> 1 Hour from a pad is possible.
The object is achieved by a multilayer laminate having the features of
It is envisaged that the multilayer laminate consists of two pressure-sensitive adhesive layers and an intermediate layer arranged between the pressure-sensitive adhesive layers, wherein the intermediate layer comprises an interlayer composition with one or more binders and the pressure-sensitive adhesive layers each comprise a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition. The pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of the first pressure-sensitive adhesive layer disposed adjacent to the face sheet is a permanent pressure-sensitive adhesive composition and the second pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is adjacent to the intermediate layer and has a free side, the pressure-sensitive adhesive composition is removable.
In this case, a first pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is understood as meaning a layer which is arranged between the intermediate layer and the layer of visible material. A second pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is one which is arranged on the side of the intermediate layers facing away from the view material layer. If more than two pressure-sensitive adhesive layers are provided, these are referred to as further first or second pressure-sensitive adhesive layers.
The individual layers preferably have the same extent in the surface direction and cover each other over the entire surface.
A pressure-sensitive adhesive is a permanently adhesive at room temperature (21 ° C, 50% relative humidity).
Permanent pressure-sensitive adhesives usually have an adhesion which, at the use temperature (usually 21 ° C. and 50% relative humidity on the substrate to be bonded according to instructions, results in the pressure-sensitive laminate thus finished no longer having a short contact time (less than one hour) This may result in cracking or splitting of the layer of visible material, partial or total failure of the adhesion between the layer of visible material and the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer associated therewith, because the adhesion to the substrate to be adhered is greater than the adhesion to the visible layer, or failure of the inner layer Strength of the pressure-sensitive adhesive (cohesive failure).
Detachable pressure-sensitive adhesives have a lower adhesion, which even after prolonged contact time, d. H. greater than one hour (t> 1 h), a residue-free detachment allows. For this purpose, adhesion-reducing additives, such as plasticizers or wax, are often used.
The functionality of both permanent and removable pressure-sensitive adhesives, the term pressure-sensitive adhesive and pressure-sensitive adhesive composition being used interchangeably, is heavily dependent on how well the adhesion to the face material layer is pronounced. Ie. the adhesion to the visible material layer must be much higher than the adhesion to the adherent substrate to ensure the best possible functionality.
In order to improve the adhesion to the visible material layer, physical methods such as plasma discharge or the like and / or chemical pretreatment in the form of a primer are frequently used. Plasma discharges such. B. Koronavorbehandlung are only partially effective and usually show only on Polyolefinoberflächen an effect. On the other hand, primers are usually uneconomic, since they can be applied only with great effort, and can often not be used by the manufacturer of sheet material or coaters for every application, i. H. the appropriate vote of visual material storage and pressure-sensitive adhesive system to be adjusted. In addition, a variety of primers are also ecologically questionable.
In general, pressure-sensitive adhesives are considered peelable if their adhesion at a coating weight of 18 g / m 2 on a PET (30 μm thick) viewing material when adhered to steel or glass according to Finat Test Method No. 1 (FTM 1) at 23 ° C and 50% relative humidity does not exceed a liability of 7.5 N / 25 mm.
In this case, the multilayer laminate according to the invention contains at least two pressure-sensitive adhesive layers, each of the pressure-sensitive adhesive layers having a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition which contains at least one pressure-sensitive adhesive polymer. The terms pressure sensitive adhesives and pressure sensitive adhesive compositions have been used synonymously. A pressure sensitive adhesive is a permanently tacky adhesive at room temperature (21 ° C).
The following explanations apply to the pressure-sensitive adhesive compositions of both layers, unless specific reference is made to one of the layers.
As a basis for the pressure-sensitive adhesive composition, free-radically polymerized polymers, polyesters or polyadducts come into consideration, particularly preferably polymers obtainable by emulsion polymerization.
Furthermore, synthetic and natural rubber systems can also be used. Furthermore, pressure-sensitive adhesive compositions whose properties are improved by photochemical crosslinking, for. B. by irradiation with electron radiation or UV light, can be adjusted, for. B. acResin ® BASF, Ludwigshafen, Germany company.
B. in Benedek, Feldstein:
The essential properties of a pressure-sensitive adhesive or a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition are the tackiness, ie the adhesion, and the internal strength, namely the cohesion of the same.
Hierzu werden u. a. The pressure-sensitive adhesive composition may consist solely of the one or more pressure-sensitive adhesive polymer (s) or further additives. These are usually used to set the desired processing and / or application properties. For this purpose u. a. Substances used to increase the adhesion, so-called tackifiers, or regulate, for. As plasticizer. Preferred tackifiers are natural or chemically modified rosin resins. Rosin resins consist predominantly of abietic acid or abietic acid derivatives. These can in their salt form, with z. B. mono- or polyvalent counterions (cations), or preferably in their esterified form, are present. Alcohols that can be used for esterification may be monovalent or polyvalent. Examples are methanol, ethanol, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, 1,2,3-propane triol, pentaerythritol. Other tackifiers can also be synthetic systems.
Other additives which may be added to the pressure-sensitive adhesive composition are e.g. As antioxidants, fillers, dyes, thickeners and leveling agents.
The pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of the first pressure-sensitive adhesive layer which is in contact with the visible material is, apart from water or other solvents, in particular more than 60% by weight, more preferably more than 70% by weight and more preferably more than 80% by weight of the pressure-sensitive adhesive polymer, which also includes mixtures of different pressure-sensitive adhesive polymers. The further, in particular the second pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is, apart from water or other solvents, in particular more than 40 wt .-%, particularly preferably more than 60 wt .-% and more preferably more than 70 wt .-% of the Pressure-sensitive adhesive polymer, which also mixtures of different pressure-sensitive adhesive polymers are to be understood. The pressure-sensitive adhesive polymers of the layers are preferably similar systems; however, they may differ in monomer composition or molecular weight or other parameters.
It is known to the person skilled in the art how the respectively desired pressure-sensitive adhesive properties can be adjusted. The use of crosslinked pressure-sensitive adhesive polymers increases the internal strength of the pressure-sensitive adhesive or adhesive composition, generally to the detriment of tackiness. Self-adhesive articles, which are coated with such pressure-sensitive adhesive compositions, are usually removable again without residue. Other pressure-sensitive adhesive compositions have a very high tack by the concomitant use of very polar monomers and optionally larger amounts of tackifier. Such finished articles can hardly be peeled off again without being damaged so that they can be termed permanent pressure-sensitive adhesive compositions. In addition, the use of crosslinked systems also changes the mechanical, thermal and chemical resistance of the pressure-sensitive adhesive composition.
The glass transition temperature of pressure-sensitive adhesive polymers which form part of the pressure-sensitive adhesive composition is preferably less than or equal to + 10 °, more preferably less than or equal to 0 ° C, more preferably less than or equal to -10 ° C, and most preferably less than or equal to -20 ° C. more preferably less than or equal to -30 ° C. The lower limit is -70 ° C for the glass transition temperature.
According to the invention, any pressure-sensitive adhesives can be combined with one another. That is, all pressure sensitive adhesive layers can be peelable or permanent pressure sensitive adhesive compositions. However, it is also possible to combine permanent pressure-sensitive adhesive layers with detachable ones.
In general, pressure-sensitive adhesives are considered to be peelable if their adhesion at a coating weight of 18 g / m on a PET viewing material (thickness 30 μm) when bonded with steel or glass according to FINAT test method no. 1 (FTM 1) at 23 ° C and 50 % RH does not exceed a liability of 7.5 N / 25mm. Permanent pressure-sensitive adhesives are thus those which have an adhesion greater than 7.5 N / 25 mm under these conditions. This definition is also used in the present invention.
The layer thickness of the pressure-sensitive adhesive layers may be from 1 to 100 .mu.m, preferably at least 3 .mu.m and more preferably at least 5 .mu.m, wherein the maximum layer thickness is preferably less than 60 .mu.m and more preferably less than 40 microns.
The intermediate layer according to the invention consists essentially of one or more binders.
The intermediate layer may likewise be a further permanent pressure-sensitive adhesive layer. In this case, what has been said above regarding the permanent adhesive layers applies.
If, on the other hand, an intermediate layer is used which has no or only very low pressure-sensitive adhesive properties, then the adhesion of the interlayer according to Finat Test Method 1 (FTM 1) is less than 50% and preferably less than 30% and preferably less than 20% of the adhesion of the functional adhesive layer the liner is in contact and can be glued with its other side to a substrate.
In this case, the intermediate layer is a removable pressure-sensitive adhesive layer.
Incidentally, this releasable pressure-sensitive adhesive layer used as an interposer layer is formed according to the above-described releasable pressure-sensitive adhesive layers. In this way, the influence of the permanent pressure-sensitive adhesive layer disposed between the intermediate layer and the visible material on the functional second releasable pressure-sensitive adhesive layer can be effectively minimized. Furthermore, as an intermediate layer also a completely decoupling, d. H. even non-pressure-sensitive adhesive layer can be used. Suitable for this purpose are any binder systems which themselves are not pressure-sensitive and whose glass transition temperature Tg is not substantially below the service temperature. The glass transition temperature of the interlayer polymers is preferably 0 ° C to + 80 ° C, more preferably 10 to 70 ° C and more preferably 10 to 60 ° and more preferably 20 to 60 ° C. This information applies to non-adhesive interlayers. In the case of permanently or detachably adhering intermediate layers, the glass transition temperature has essentially no influence on the functionality.
The thickness of the intermediate layer may be 1 to 100 μm, in particular it is at least 3 μm and more preferably at least 5 μm and in general the thickness is not greater than 60 μm, particularly preferably not greater than 50 μm and particularly preferably not greater than 40 μm ,
The pressure-sensitive adhesive composition and interposer composition are preferably liquid at room temperature. It can be 100% systems, a solution in water or organic solvent, a dispersion or a plastisol. 100% systems are compositions which are liquid in the processing state and which react with one another without release of a component of the composition with an increase in viscosity and / or the elastic fraction.
In this case, one of the pressure-sensitive adhesive layers is particularly permanent, d. H. insoluble, anchored on a viewing material. The viewing material consists in particular of paper or foil and preferably has a thickness of less than 200 microns.
The multilayer laminate preferably contains further layers. In particular, the pressure-sensitive adhesive layers may be covered with an anti-adhesion layer or release layer in which a non-adherent, d. H. detachable side is directed toward the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer. The non-stick or release layer is in particular a siliconized paper or a siliconized film. The release or release layer should protect the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer until it is used. Immediately prior to use, the release or release liner is removed.
In addition, it can be provided that the free pressure-sensitive adhesive layer, which faces away from the visible material, is not covered, so that it is possible to dispense with an anti-adhesion layer, since the free adhesive-adhesive layer comes into contact with the visible material during rolling up and this then protects both pressure-sensitive adhesive layers.
The multilayer laminate has a thickness of 30 .mu.m-2 mm, preferably 50 .mu.m-500 .mu.m, and more preferably 60 .mu.m-250 .mu.m, but this includes all layers but without release layers, if provided.
The multilayered adhesive composite is obtainable by a coating process in which pressure-sensitive adhesives and the interlayer composition are present as an aqueous dispersion, solution or 100% liquid system and are coated. Preferably, the coating is applied to an anti-adhesion layer, e.g. As a siliconized paper or film and then drying the coating. The coating of the pressure-sensitive adhesive layers and the intermediate layer is preferably carried out in one operation. Subsequently, the lamination with the viewing material then takes place.
The multilayer laminate is preferably produced by a process in which the at least three flowable compositions (two pressure-sensitive adhesive compositions and one interposition composition) are continuously coated onto a web-shaped substrate, preferably a non-stick or release layer. The coating is carried out using a multiple cascade. The Coating speed is preferably 30 to 1500 m / min, more preferably 150 to 1200 m / min and most preferably 300 to 1200 m / min.
The pressure-sensitive adhesive composition and the interlayer composition are in different containers and are fed from these as a liquid film.
An essential feature of the multi-cascade nozzle is that a total film is formed from the individual films to be coated. In this overall film, the individual films are in the spatial arrangement desired later in the multilayer laminate. The total film is fed from the multiple cascade nozzle onto the moving web-shaped carrier.
Preferably, the process is a slide coating process. In slidecoating, the overall film slides over a surface, e.g. B. metal surface (sliding) and is then deposited on the substrate.
In contrast, in a slot coating process, the overall film is fed directly from a slot or die, i. H. without sliding, placed on the substrate.
It is furthermore preferably a curtain coating process. The curtain coating process deposits a free-falling film curtain on the substrate. In order for the film curtain to fall freely, the distance between the nozzle or other outlet opening and the moving substrate must be greater than the layer thickness to be coated.
Particularly preferred is a slide coating process in combination with a curtain coating process.
Alternatively, however, the coating of pressure-sensitive adhesive layers and intermediate layer may also be applied in several operations, e.g. be applied one after the other. However, the application in one operation is preferred.
The multilayer laminate is suitable as a self-adhesive article, in particular as a label or adhesive tape.
The invention allows the production of self-adhesive articles, in particular labels, but also adhesive tapes, and adhesive films, which have very good and constant adhesive properties. The multi-layer leads to an increase in the final adhesion for permanent pressure-sensitive adhesives and in removable pressure-sensitive adhesives to an improvement and long-term constant low adhesion values and thus permanent and residue-free removability.
