Description
The invention relates to a camera system for use in a vehicle.
Driver assistance systems in vehicles often use one or more cameras to detect the vehicle environment, for example, to detect a wide variety of objects in the vicinity of the vehicle. The cameras are usually arranged in the vehicle interior behind the windshield and look in the direction of travel through the disc. Both mono cameras and stereo cameras are known for detecting obstacles, lane markings, traffic signs, road users and other objects.
In addition, camera systems are already known from the prior art, in which in addition to a first camera or in addition to a first camera module, which may be both a mono and a stereo camera, another camera module in the same Installation space is arranged in the vehicle, eg in the installation space behind the windshield in the area of the roof node. The other camera module, which can also be both a mono and a stereo camera, is constructed as a self-sufficient system, i. there is an independent image acquisition and in particular an independent image processing, independent of the first camera module. The second camera module thus includes its own imaging system and its own image acquisition and image processing electronics. Such additionally arranged camera modules are often used to implement special detection functions, which in turn are required for the implementation of certain driver assistance functions. A well-known example is the arrangement of a night vision camera between the camera optics of a stereo camera.
A disadvantage of the known from the prior art camera systems, in which two self-sufficient camera modules are arranged in the same installation space in the vehicle, the fact that such systems require a lot of already limited installation space in the vehicle anyway. In particular, the installation space behind the windshield in the region of the roof node is claimed by more and more sensor systems, for example of other sensors for environment detection, antennas, etc. In addition, the arrangement of completely self-sufficient systems also causes corresponding additional costs for materials, manufacturing and assembly.
The invention has for its object to provide a camera system in which at least two camera modules, which are designed in particular for implementing different image acquisition functions are arranged in the same or in a common installation space in the vehicle, however, compared to those known from the prior art Systems, savings can be achieved, especially in terms of the required installation space and the costs incurred.
This object is achieved by a camera system with the features of claim 1. Advantageous embodiments and further developments are the subject of dependent claims, wherein combinations and developments of individual features are conceivable with each other.
An essential idea of the invention is to use common electronic devices for two camera modules, in particular common electronic image processing devices. Such a camera system can be designed, for example, such that each of the camera modules comprises at least one own imaging system and a separate image recording element, wherein the image recording elements can each be arranged on a separate printed circuit board. Furthermore, the image pickup elements or the printed circuit boards on which the image pickup elements are arranged can be connected via electrical connections to shared electronic devices, in particular to shared image processing devices. The camera modules of the camera system are preferably arranged in a common housing.
Significant benefits of sharing electronic devices for two or more Camera modules of a camera system consist of the fact that power supplies, computer or hardware resources as well as connections to driver assistance systems or to other vehicle-side systems need to be designed, produced and installed only once. The solution according to the invention thus achieves, in particular, savings in terms of costs and the required installation space.
The camera system according to the invention is preferably used for arrangement in a vehicle and for image acquisition for one or more driver assistance systems or for implementing one or more driver assistance functions. The camera system comprises at least a first and a second camera module. The first and second camera modules in turn each comprise at least one imaging system and at least one imaging element. For example, the imaging system may be an object, i. a system of multiple lenses or beamforming and beam steering elements, or a single lens. The image recording element is preferably a so-called image sensor or a so-called imager with a surface sensitive to electromagnetic radiation. For example, CMOS and CCD image sensors are known. The image pickup elements can each be arranged on a printed circuit board and electrically connected thereto.
The first and the second camera module of the camera system are used according to the invention for implementing at least two different image acquisition functions. The at least two image acquisition functions may differ on the one hand with regard to the type of image acquisition.
Abstandsregeltempomat, Abstandswarner, Abbiegeassistent, Stauassistent, Spurerkennungssysteme, Spurhalteassistent bzw. Spurhalteunterstützung, auch als LDW-Systeme bekannt (Lane departure warning), Spurwechselassistent, ISA (Intelligent Speed Adaption), Notbremsassistent bzw. ANB (Automatische Notbremsung), Notausweichassistent, Kurvenassistent, Reifendruckkontrollsystem, Fahrerzustandserkennung sowie Verkehrszeichen- und Ampelerkennung. Different types of image acquisition include, for example, night vision imaging, infrared imaging, color and black-and-white imaging, 2D and 3D imaging, and mono and stereo imaging. The at least two image acquisition functions may alternatively or additionally also differ with respect to the purpose of image acquisition. In this case, the image acquisition of the first and the second camera module can serve to implement different driver assistance functions or take place for different driver assistance systems. Examples of driver assistance functions include adaptive headlights, headlamps, night vision systems, cruise control, parking assistance, brake assist, ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control), distance warning, turn-off assistant, traffic jam assistant, lane detection systems, lane departure warning system Lane departure assistance, also known as LDW systems (lane departure warning), lane change assistant, ISA (intelligent speed adaptation), emergency brake assistant or ANB (emergency emergency braking), emergency evasion assistant, curve assistant, tire pressure monitoring system, driver status detection and traffic sign and traffic light recognition.
Bildverarbeitungseinrichtungen. According to the invention, the first and the second camera module are connected via suitable devices, in particular via electrical connections, to a shared image processing electronics or to the same image processing devices. In this case, the image pickup elements of the first and second camera modules or the printed circuit boards on which the image pickup elements are arranged can be connected via electrical connections to the same image processing devices, i. for example, with the same circuit board on which image processing devices are arranged. In particular, the first and the second camera module do not include their own image processing electronics or image processing devices.
According to a preferred embodiment, the first camera module of the camera system according to the invention comprises two imaging systems and two image recording elements. The imaging systems, each with associated image recording element are preferably arranged such that the first camera module is designed as a stereo camera or for stereo imaging as an image detection function, i. for image acquisition according to the stereo principle described in the introduction.
When forming the first camera module of the camera system according to the invention as a stereo camera, the at least one imaging system of the second camera module with associated image recording element is preferably arranged between the two imaging systems of the first camera module. As a result, installation space can be saved, since the installation space, which would otherwise be lost due to the baseline of the stereo camera that is as large as possible, is advantageously exploited in order to convert the second camera module, i. the imaging system and the image pickup element of the second camera module to arrange.
According to a further preferred embodiment of the camera system according to the invention, the second camera module for image acquisition is designed with a lower image resolution than the first camera module. In this case, the first camera module can be configured, for example, with one or more image recording elements, by means of which a higher image resolution can be achieved during image acquisition, than with the one or more image recording elements, with which the second camera module is formed. The second camera module with respect to such a configuration Image resolution and / or sharpness simpler and thus designed to be cheaper than the first camera module.
According to a particular embodiment of the camera system according to the invention, the first camera module is designed as a black and white camera and the second camera module as a color camera. For this purpose, the second camera module may comprise one or more color-sensitive image sensors (color images) as image recording elements. Color-sensitive image sensors may also capture color information from an observed scene in addition to brightness information, for example by placing an appropriate color filter array (e.g., a Bayer pattern) over the sensitive pixels of the image sensor. With such a color-sensitive image sensor images of an observed scene in the entire visible color spectrum can be achieved. The first camera module, on the other hand, may be configured with one or more imaging elements which only sense the intensity of electromagnetic radiation, i. which exclusively capture brightness information from the observed scene, in particular in gray values including the extreme values black and white. The first and second camera modules differ in this case, at least in terms of color and black-and-white image capture, as image capture functions. It is conceivable, for example, an embodiment of the camera system according to the invention such that the second camera module in terms of resolution and sharpness of image capture is much simpler and cheaper designed than the first camera module, but with an image capture in color. The second camera module could thereby be advantageously used to provide additional color information for certain driver assistance functions for which only a low image resolution is required, while the first camera module permits high-resolution black-and-white image capture, in particular for driver assistance functions that include a correspondingly high resolution but not necessarily require color information.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the camera system according to the invention, the first and the second camera module are arranged in a common housing. The housing may also consist of a plurality of individual housing elements, which together form a closed housing, within which the first and the second camera module are arranged. Furthermore, the shared image processing electronics, in particular the image processing devices shared by the first and second camera modules, are preferably also arranged in the common housing.
According to a preferred embodiment of the camera system according to the invention, the first and the second camera module for image acquisition from one or more areas of the vehicle environment are formed. In this case, the imaging systems of the camera modules are preferably suitably aligned and in particular arranged correspondingly in a common housing.
According to a further preferred embodiment of the camera system according to the invention, the first camera module for image acquisition from a region of the vehicle environment and the second camera module for image acquisition from the interior of the vehicle is formed and arranged. In this case, the imaging systems of the camera modules are preferably suitably aligned and in particular arranged correspondingly in a common housing.
The camera system according to the invention is preferably arranged in the interior of a vehicle behind the windshield. The camera system preferably comprises a closed housing, which is arranged via suitable fastening devices in the upper part of the windshield in the region of the roof node. In this case, the imaging systems of the camera modules can both be arranged in the housing and aligned with their optical axes or with the detection direction such that they detect an area in front of the vehicle, i. the camera modules are aligned in the case viewed through the windshield through. The imaging systems of the camera modules can also be arranged in the housing such that they detect the interior of the vehicle.
