The invention relates to a method and apparatus for providing a learning control system on a computer. In particular, the invention relates to an autonomous learner learning progress control system that measures and controls both relative and absolute learning progress.

Field of the invention:

Autonomous learning has created new opportunities, in particular by supporting the learning process through a computer. The control of the learning progress can be done either independently by the learner or by the computer system that supports the learning process.

The networking of computers used for learning support now allows to combine the benefits of autonomous learning with the benefits of teacher-based learning, without restricting the autonomous learner in his free design of the learning process. Nevertheless, individual and personal control can be realized in terms of relative and absolute learning progress.

For the method described here, it is advantageous if the computers used are networked with each other with a network.

Overview of the invention:

It is an object of the present invention to provide a method and apparatus that allow an autonomous learner to be controlled by an experienced teacher in terms of learning progress and learning objectives, but not restricted in his free design of the learning process, nor interactively with the teacher must claim.

In order to check whether a sub-goal or higher-level learning objective has been attained, the experienced teacher will use the process of measuring progress, and will agree on the other sub-goals as well as the speed and procedures to achieve these sub-goals with the results of the progress measurement.

Autonomous learning refers to a learning process in which the pupil freely chooses both the subgoals and the speed and procedure, and thus does not depend on the availability of a teacher in terms of time or space.

The invention has the following general characteristics.

The student has access to the performance control system. Typically, this will use a computer with network access. The performance control system consists of a central component that takes control and a decentralized component for interacting with the student.

The invention allows the decentralized component to be implemented on the basis of a standard web browser. For the central component, common server systems can be used. The network connection between the distributed component and the central component can be realized via local network, wide area networks or via public Internet connections.

Individual credentials for the learning control system are defined for the student, which ensure that the performance and progress measurement is clearly assigned to each student.

An administration system is used to set up and manage students and teachers.

The special feature of the invention is that, on the one hand, the knowledge and experience of an experienced teacher is used to control the learning progress, but the respective experienced teacher does not himself work with the device.

This is advantageous because it allows the performance of an experienced teacher to be used optimally.

In order to achieve this, both the student and an assistant work with the learning control system. The assistant has the task of providing the progress reports provided by the invention to the respective teachers per field of study and student, and to recording the new learning objectives defined by the experienced teacher per learning area and student in the learning control system.

The teacher now uses the progress report to examine the result obtained without interacting with the student and defines the new learning objective if the overall learning objective has not yet been reached.

The 2 shows the schematic structure of the learning control system. The user administration serves the collection and administration of all users of the system. Users are students, helpers, but also teachers. Students and assistants are assigned individual login IDs. Role management is used to assign a role to each user. Possible roles are student, teacher, assistant. Group administration is used to assign students to teachers. A teacher can be responsible for several groups. Site management is used to assign users to sites. At these locations the interactive part of the lesson takes place. Learning content management allows the student to enter and manage the learning content required to achieve the teacher's sub-goals. The autonomous learning system allows the student to learn the entered learning content. The learning progress management controls the autonomous learning system depending on the learning progress of the student. Reporting creates the progress reports.

3 shows an example of a progress report for a teacher with the ability to capture new learning objectives.
