Wegen der dabei bestehenden Verletzungsgefahr für das Tier erfordert dies die Tätigkeit eines staatlich geprüften Hufschmiedes. Alternativ sind – insbesondere bei Hufbelägen aus Kunststoffen – Möglichkeiten des Verklebens oder Verschweißens des Hufschutzes an der Hufunterseite bekannt (vgl. DE 196 30 660 ).
