Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a device for energy storage for an electric traction vehicle, in particular a rail or road vehicle, according to the preamble of claim 1.
For the storage of electrical energy, double layer capacitors are being used in more and more applications. Electrochemical double-layer capacitors, also called supercapacitors and known for example under the brand names gold caps, supercaps, boostcaps, or ultracaps, are characterized by comparatively high capacities and efficiencies, highly dynamic reloading capacity and very high cycle strengths and lifetimes. In addition, they are deep discharge resistant and maintenance-free. Double-layer capacitors consist of two electrodes which are wetted with an electrolyte liquid, which form a dielectric of a few atomic layers and a large electrode surface. A single memory cell designed as a double-layer capacitor is often cylindrical and has connection poles on its end faces. The capacity of a single cell is, for example, at 50 F with a dielectric strength of about 2.7 V. The capacitance and the operating voltage can be increased by series and parallel connection of several memory cells to form a memory module.
The invention is therefore based on the object to provide an energy storage device of the type mentioned, which allows a reduced cost of the connection technology of the memory cells and alternative housing forms of the memory module.
The object is achieved by a generic energy storage device with the features specified in the characterizing part of claim 1. By virtue of the memory module having a plurality of memory cells arranged coaxially behind one another and connected in series electrically, a more effective utilization of volume is achieved than with a corresponding number of cylindrical memory cells arranged next to one another. The effort for the connection technology of adjacent memory cells is also lower than in the case of memory cells arranged next to one another, since the connection poles are directly opposite memory cells to be contacted in the case of a coaxial series arrangement. Finally, memory modules with columnar or flat housing shapes are possible with respect to the cuboid basic shape of memory cells arranged side by side in a pack in the arrangement of the memory cells according to the invention.
In an advantageous embodiment of the device according to the invention, the module housing is formed as an extruded part with integrated cooling system. Extrusion is a forming process, which is particularly suitable for the production of pipes with complicated profiles and difficult-to-form materials. Thus, for example tubular module housing with externally molded cooling fins, which can accommodate one or more rows of memory cells arranged one behind the other, are produced in a single process step. In addition to the high degree of deformation, extrusion is characterized above all by low tool costs, which is of particular interest for the production of relatively small lots. In this process, a heated to forming temperature compact is pressed with a punch through a die. The block is enclosed by a recipient - a very thick-walled tube. The outer shape of the pressed strand is determined by the die. Through differently shaped mandrels cavities can be generated. It is also possible to press two halves of a module housing strand and then connect the housing halves after being equipped with memory cells. In addition to the cooling fins which are oriented toward air cooling, cooling water channels for water cooling can also be provided in the extruded parts. A combination of air and water cooling results in a more efficient dissipation of heat generated during operation of the storage cells.
Preferably, the cooling system of the device according to the invention as a heat pipe with Capillary return of coolant formed to an evaporator. A heat pipe has a hermetically sealed volume, which is filled with a fluid working medium, for example water, to a small extent in the liquid state and for the most part in the vapor state. In the module housing are each a heat transfer surface for acting as a heat source evaporator and acting as a heat sink capacitor. Upon introduction of heat, the working medium begins to evaporate, whereby the pressure in the vapor space is locally increased above the fluid level, which leads to a low pressure gradient within the heat pipe. The resulting vapor flows in the direction of the condenser, where it condenses because of the lower temperature. The previously recorded latent heat is released again. The now liquid working medium returns through capillary back to the evaporator. Due to the low temperature difference between evaporator and condenser, a heat pipe has a very low thermal resistance.
In a preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention an electrical insulating material is arranged in a hollow cylindrical gap between memory cells and module housing, which is formed as an insulating film and / or insulating coating and / or insulating pad and / or insulating mat and / or Isoliergel and / or insulating liquid and / or insulating gas , In addition to the electrical insulation between the memory cells and the wall of the module housing, the insulating material must nevertheless allow a good thermal connection of the memory cells to the module housing so that the heat energy generated during operation in the memory cells can be dissipated in order to be able to ensure a sufficient efficiency of the energy storage device. Thus, an insulating film can be inserted into the cylindrical gap or an insulating coating can be applied to the inner wall of the module housing. Alternatively, a so-called Gap-pad can be inserted into the gap, which has good electrical insulation but low thermal resistance. The mentioned insulating materials can preferably be arranged in half-shells of the module housing, whereupon the memory cells are inserted. Finally, the half-shells are folded together and pressed by screws or by holding devices during welding or by clamping rings. The hollow cylindrical gap between memory cells and module housing can also be filled with an insulating liquid or an insulating gel, which also realizes a good heat connection of the memory cells to the module housing. Particularly suitable as insulating liquid MIDEL, an insulating and cooling liquid based on ester with high fire safety, high environmental friendliness and low maintenance. Furthermore, the hollow cylindrical gap can be generated by spacers between memory cells and module housing wall in the form of plastic webs, which is then filled with an insulating gas, such as air.
Preferably, the insulating liquid of the device according to the invention is designed as a setting potting. Advantageously, a gel, silicone, polyurethane or Harzverguss be provided here, which also realizes a good heat connection to the module housing and thus the cooling of the memory cells. The bonding insulating material is introduced at production of the energy storage device at reduced pressure in the module housing in order to achieve the most uniform distribution possible.
In an advantageous embodiment of the device according to the invention, a cylindrical connecting piece is arranged between each two adjacent memory cells, via which the memory cells are connected to one another. By way of these annular connecting pieces, two adjacent memory cells can each be welded together. Through the connecting pieces, the column or columns on mechanical storage cells arranged one behind the other receives a mechanical stability, which is then no longer to be provided completely by the module housing. The connectors also ensure a secure electrical contact between two adjacent memory cells via their terminal poles. If, for example, the connecting pieces flow through a cooling medium, they can additionally serve for the heat dissipation of the storage cells.
Preferably, a cylindrical connecting piece of a device according to the invention with the two connected memory cells encloses a cavity, which communicates with a pressure compensation reservoir. As a pressure compensation reservoir, for example, the hollow cylindrical gap between memory cells and module housing or a separate cavity can serve. The pressure compensation reservoir can be connected to the cavity via a membrane or via a pressure relief valve. The pressure compensation reservoir can also be designed as elastically compressible and filled with air or special gas pad.
In a preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention, the pressure compensation reservoir communicates with the hollow cylindrical gap and is designed to receive fluid insulating material. A pressure relief valve is adjusted so that it opens when creating an overpressure in the module housing - for example, by leakage of electrolyte liquid from a defective double-layer capacitor, thus insulating the pressure in the memory module insulating material from the hollow cylindrical gap in the Pressure compensation reservoir can penetrate. It can also be introduced a separate monitoring circuit for triggering the pressure relief valve directly with potting of the insulating material in the energy storage device.
In a further preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention, the electrolyte liquid emerging from a storage cell is miscible with the insulating material and can be set by it. In this way, in the event of a fault, electrolyte liquid emerging from the double-layer capacitor can be bound by the insulating material in the hollow-cylindrical gap. The insulating material may also be a phase change material. It could also be provided that this mixture reduces the insulating ability of the insulating material, which can then be used for fault detection.
