Description
The invention relates to an optical system for calibrating a light source, for example a laser of high power, which is arranged in a satellite.
Light sources, for example a laser with a high power, are used for different purposes, for example for the transmission of data or for the measurement, for example of distances. Furthermore, such lasers are also used in material processing and in sensor technology. The above examples are not exhaustive. Such a light source should be calibrated from time to time to be effective. A calibration should be made especially if properties of the light source have been changed due to external influences. This applies, for example, to a laser located in a satellite. Such a laser experiences high forces during the transport of the satellite from the earth into the universe, so that it may well be possible that the positioning or orientation of the laser has been changed due to these acting forces.
The invention is therefore based on the object of specifying an optical system which is suitable for calibrating a light source, in particular a laser arranged in a satellite with high power, for example in the range of 5 watts to 15 watts.
This object is achieved with an optical system having the features of claim 1. Further features of the invention will become apparent from the other claims, the following description and / or the accompanying drawings.
According to the invention, an optical system for calibrating a light source has an optical axis and a light entrance side at which light of the light source enters the optical system. Furthermore, the optical system is provided with at least one first lens unit, at least one second lens unit, at least one third lens unit and at least one reflection element. Moreover, in the optical system according to the invention, at least one fourth lens unit and at least one diaphragm unit are further provided. Starting from the light entry side and facing away from the light entry side, the first lens unit, the second lens unit, the aperture unit, the third lens unit, the fourth lens unit and the reflection element are arranged. In other words, the individual units of the optical system according to the invention are arranged from the light entrance side in the following order: the first lens unit - the second lens unit - the aperture unit - the third lens unit - the fourth lens unit - the reflection element.
By a lens unit is meant above and below a lens unit which is composed of a single lens or which is composed of a plurality of lenses (or lens groups).
The aperture unit may be formed, for example, as a pinhole. Additionally or alternatively, it may be provided that the diaphragm unit is composed as a diaphragm system with at least one first diaphragm and at least one second diaphragm.
Considerations have shown that the aforementioned optical system is particularly well suited for calibrating a light source, in particular a high-power laser. The reflection element can - depending on the quality of the reflection element - have a reflection accuracy of one arc second. Furthermore, it is possible to determine the visual field of the optical system by means of the diaphragm unit, so that calibration of the light source can be carried out particularly well.
For calibration, light from the light source is introduced into the optical system through the light entrance side of the optical system and guided through the first lens unit, the second lens unit, the aperture unit, the third lens unit, the fourth lens unit, and the reflection element. The reflection element Reflects the incident light again, so that the reflected light passes through the optical system again, but in reverse order as the incident light of the light source. After leaving the optical system, the reflected light is then detected and evaluated by means of a detector.
The optical system according to the invention also has the advantage that it has a compact design and can be designed such that it is insensitive to forces acting on the optical system. Furthermore, the optical system can be composed of units which are insensitive to a temperature change. Accordingly, the optical system is preferably athermal, so insensitive to temperature formed. For example, the optical system is insensitive to a temperature change in a range of ± 25 ° C, starting from an initial temperature (for example, 0 ° C). However, it is explicitly pointed out that the invention is not limited to this temperature range. Rather, the invention can also be used in other temperature ranges.
Further, it is intended, for example, to use radiation-resistant glasses which can be used in the composition of the first lens unit, the second lens unit, the third lens unit and / or the fourth lens unit. A radiation-resistant glass is understood here as a glass whose material resistance is not damaged due to incident radiation and whose properties do not change or only slightly change due to incident radiation. The radiation-resistant glasses currently available on the market have been tested for resistance to incident electron radiation, proton radiation and gamma radiation at different radiation doses. These have all shown a sufficiently good durability. As an example, the glass BK7G18 is mentioned here.
In a first embodiment of the optical system according to the invention, the first lens unit, the second lens unit, the third lens unit and the fourth lens unit each consist of a single lens. This is particularly advantageous as it reduces the weight of the optical system compared to many other prior art optical systems which use multiple lenses for a single lens unit. As mentioned above, however, the individual lens units can also comprise a plurality of lenses, in particular compound lenses.
In a further embodiment of the invention, at least one quarter wave plate (that is to say a "λ / 4" plate) is arranged between the fourth lens unit and the reflection element. Furthermore, it is also preferably provided in this case to coat at least one reflection surface of the reflection element with a metal. This embodiment enables the polarization state (more specifically, the linear polarization) of the light incident on the optical system and the polarization state of the light reflected by the reflection element to be maintained (that is, the same).
Preferably, the optical system according to the invention, viewed from the first lens unit in the direction of the light entry side, has at least one filter element which serves as an entrance window of the optical system. The filter element has the task of absorbing energy. In some embodiments, it is desirable that the power of the incident light be reduced.
Furthermore, it is preferably provided that the reflection element is designed as a retroreflector. Particularly preferably, the reflection element is designed as an angle reflector. In this embodiment, the light incident in the optical system is reflected back from the reflection member substantially toward a light source from which the incident light originates.
Furthermore, it is provided that the optical system according to the invention is preferably formed afokal. In addition, the optical system according to the invention is particularly suitable for calibrating a light source which irradiates a light beam with a wavelength of 1064 nm into the optical system.
In a further embodiment of the optical system according to the invention, the first lens unit, the second lens unit, the third lens unit and the fourth lens unit are each provided with a first surface and each with a second surface. Considerations have shown that it is advantageous to form the first surface and / or the second surface of each of the aforementioned lens units spherical.
In the above table, the individual areas of the first lens unit, the second lens unit, the third lens unit and the fourth lens unit are mentioned, with their radii, curvature and opening diameter are indicated. Further, the material is called each lens. The refractive indices n e and the Abbe numbers ν e are also given.
In a further embodiment of the optical system according to the invention, a certain coefficient of expansion is provided in order to allow a particularly good calibration. Preferably, it is provided that the coefficient of expansion of the first lens unit, the second lens unit, the third lens unit and / or the fourth lens unit is selected such that it is within a range of -30.degree. C. to 70.degree. 5 × 10 -6 / K to 9.5 × 10 -6 / K, preferably 6.5 × 10 -6 / K to 9.0 × 10 -6 / K, especially 7.0 × 10 -6 / K to 8.5 × 10 -6 / K. The aforementioned limits of the ranges are included in the preferred ranges. The limits are also to be understood as approximate values. You can still vary something. An expansion coefficient of the aforementioned ranges enables the calibration of the light source not to be degraded by temperature effects.
In yet another embodiment, it is provided that the temperature coefficient dn / dT of the first lens unit, the second lens unit, the third lens unit and / or the fourth lens unit is selected to be in a range of 2.0 × 10 -6 / K is up to 2.7 × 10 -6 / K. Again, the aforementioned limits of the ranges are included in the preferred ranges. The limits are also to be understood as approximate values. You can still vary something.
In a further embodiment of the optical system according to the invention, the aperture unit is formed replaceable. In other words, it is possible to use different aperture units in the optical system. This ensures that, as needed, another field of view and thus a defined field boundary can be selected. Preferably, it is provided that the aperture unit has a diameter (ie an opening diameter) in the range of 0.1 mm to 1 mm, preferably in the range of 0.2 mm to 0.5 mm. Particularly advantageous is the use of a diaphragm unit with a diameter of 0.2 mm, with which a field of view in the range of 1 mrad can be achieved. The invention is not limited to the aforementioned field of view. Rather, particular embodiments of the optical system have a field of view which is in the range of 0.5 mrad to 8 mrad, preferably in the range of 1 mrad to 5 mrad. The replacement of the diaphragm unit can preferably take place without replacement of one or more of the first lens unit, the second lens unit, the third lens unit and the fourth lens unit. In a further embodiment, it is possible to use a diaphragm unit with adjustable diaphragm opening, so that replacement of the diaphragm unit for adjusting the diaphragm opening does not have to take place.
In a further embodiment of the optical system according to the invention, the first lens unit, the second lens unit, the third lens unit and / or the fourth lens unit are arranged adjustably along the optical axis. Furthermore, it is provided that the aperture unit is preferably arranged to be adjustable along the optical axis of the optical system, wherein the aperture unit is preferably designed to be rotatable and / or tiltable in addition to a plane which is arranged perpendicular to the optical axis. For example, the aperture unit is tilted by 1.5 ° to the aforementioned level.
