In motor vehicles, fuel mixtures are increasingly being used which, in addition to the actual mineral oil fuels, contain an admixture of ethanol and / or other alcohols. For example, flex-fuel vehicles are known, which are operated with variable ethanol / gasoline mixtures. Usually, the parameters of the engine control of the motor vehicle are adapted to the composition of the fuel mixture. At the same time, different concepts can be identified worldwide. While in the US so far usually only necessary adjustments of the engine control are made to the fuel mixture to offer flex-fuel vehicles, in Europe are typically also sought efficiency and performance improvements. The latter presupposes in particular for determining optimum parameters of the engine control usually an accurate knowledge of the composition of the fuel mixture.
The determination of the ethanol and fuel mixture ratio is usually carried out either on the basis of existing measured variables by means of software in the control unit itself, or this mixing ratio can be detected with an ethanol sensor. Such ethanol sensors can be based on numerous different measurement principles. In particular, capacitance measurement methods based on permittivity and conductivity determination are used here. Usually, the permittivity of the fuel mixture is determined at frequencies up to about 1 MHz. A disadvantage of a pure Permittivitätsbestimmung (with temperature correction) at frequencies in the range of 1 MHz, however, is the fact that by means of these methods, in principle, only the exact determination of the composition of mixtures a maximum of two components is possible. Other components of the fuel mixture can not be detected by this method in the rule.
Darstellung der ErfindungPresentation of the invention
According to the invention, in a device for measuring dielectric properties of liquid media, which is operated within a frequency range between 1 GHz and 10 GHz, it is proposed to form a carrier substrate in multilayer construction, in particular as LTCC ceramic (Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic). At least partially a sensing element is integrated into the carrier substrate at its upper or lower side, which is preferably applied as a conductor track structure made of metallic material on a plan side of the LTCC carrier substrate. Preferably, the arrangement of the sensing element is designed as a conductor track structure as a GSG arrangement (ground signal ground arrangement). The carrier substrate, formed in LTCC technology serves as a carrier for an evaluation circuit and additionally provides a part of a coupling structure for coupling a magnetic field into the medium to be sensed. The coupling structure, preferably formed as a conductor track structure of metallic material, is planar, d. H. lies in one plane on one of the plan side of the carrier substrate formed in LTCC technology. In the field of printed conductor structure, which is used for coupling an electromagnetic field in the medium to be sensed, is found in a further advantageous embodiment of the invention underlying idea, a temperature sensor for detecting the temperature of the medium, so that a temperature compensation using the sensed by the temperature sensor input signal can be made.
The advantages of the inventively proposed device for measuring dielectric properties of liquid media are, on the one hand, that the carrier substrate of the device proposed according to the invention for measuring dielectric properties of liquid media can be fabricated as an LTCC component by resorting to controllable standard processes that are suitable for large-scale production, so that they can be externally provided otherwise Components can be omitted. The inventively proposed device is based on the use of proven components such as the LTCC carrier substrate. This has a compact design due to the multi-layer structure and is mechanically extremely robust. Another advantage of the proposed solution according to the invention is to be seen in the fact that a cost-effective production can be realized within a large-scale production process.
The inventively proposed device can be in a medium exposed, d. H. subdivide with this contacting area and another area not in contact with the medium. Preferably, the area of the evaluation circuit in which the evaluation circuit, d. H. The electronic components are applied to the carrier substrate and embedded in this, are formed media-tight and introduced, for example, in a housing or enclosed by a suitable protective compound such as a thermoset plastic. In contrast, the region of the carrier substrate on which, for example, the planar coupling structures formed are applied in the context of a printed conductor structure, are arranged and exposed directly to the medium. In order to avoid corrosion of the preferably made of metallic material, applied in GSG arrangement coupling structures, a passivation layer can be applied to this, which prevents corrosion of the metallic material produced conductor track structure.
For example, an electromagnetic field is coupled into the medium to be measured with planar coupling structures. For this purpose, a conductor track structure can be applied either on the underside or on the upper side of the LTCC carrier substrate in a planar design. An electrical contacting of the planarized conductor track structure, which represents the sensing element, can be realized, for example, by electrical leads embedded in the carrier substrate. The multilayer structure of the carrier substrate or the entire apparatus for measuring dielectric properties of liquid media is used for the realization of passive distribution networks such as directional couplers, filters and lines as well as possibly to be provided calibration elements. The electronic or the electrical component, which may be, for example, an ASIC and other components are applied in conventional technology so for example by bonding, gluing or soldering on the carrier substrate in LTCC technology.
It has proven useful, as corrosion protection of the metallic interconnect structure, which ultimately represents the sensing element, to apply this passivation layer. If the entire device is to have media contact, it must be ensured that this passivation layer surrounds the entire module, ie the entire carrier substrate. This is advantageous, for example, in the case where the device for measuring dielectric properties of liquid media is a module which, for example, dips into a fuel mixture and represents a high-frequency sensor operated in a broadband manner. Has only a part of According to the invention proposed device for measuring dielectric properties of liquid media, contact with just these, the remaining part of the proposed device according to the invention can be covered only by a conventional protective layer, for example, in the case that when installing the module in a corresponding housing only the Sensing area has media contact, ie the area in which the planar formed conductor track structures, which ultimately represent the sensing element, are located.
The carrier substrate is preferably an inorganic carrier substrate. This accommodates "buried" structures, which are electrical leads embedded in the material of the carrier substrate and sealed and insulated due to their embedded state. For example, the electronic device may be an ASIC that includes the active sensor circuit, a transmitter, a receiver, and signal processing. In addition, there are further modules for bus connection or power supply or data evaluation within an actively operated sensor circuit. The passivation layer is in particular a gel or a similar material. If the entire apparatus for measuring dielectric properties of liquid media is immersed in the medium, it must be ensured that this layer is, for example, fuel-resistant. In addition to the configuration of the sensing elements as a planar conductor track structures, there is also the possibility of using them as microstrip or coaxial arrangements.

The inventively proposed device for measuring dielectric properties of liquid media is used in particular for determining the composition of a fuel mixture. With the device proposed according to the invention, in particular an ethanol content or and / or a water content of the fuel mixture can be determined. Under the proposed by the invention Device in the medium coupled electromagnetic radiation is a radiation to understand the frequency range between 1 and 10 GHz. In particular, in the context of the present invention, frequency ranges between 0.3 and 20 GHz, preferably between 0.5 and 10 GHz and particularly preferably in the range between 0.5 and 6 GHz can be implemented. In particular, at least one of the following parameters can be detected by the device proposed according to the invention for measuring dielectric properties of liquid medium. A permittivity, in particular a complex permittivity. Further, a Permittivitätszahl, in particular a complex Permittivitätszahl, furthermore an absorption in particular a complex absorption and a transmission in particular a complex transmission. In the present context, complex quantities are to be understood as meaning a variable which contains an amplitude and a phase. The permittivity, which is often referred to by the letter ε, describes the permeability of materials for electric fields. It is a material property of the dielectrics or at least only weakly electrically conductive materials, which manifests itself in the application of electrical fields to these materials.
It represents the proportionality constant between the electrical flux density D and the electric field: D = ε · E. The permittivity number, often also referred to as ε r or else as relative permittivity, is the ratio of the permittivity ε to the electrical field constant ε 0 (permittivity of the vacuum):
ε r = ε / ε 0 . The permittivity number ε r thus characterizes the field weakening effects of the dielectric polarization within electrically insulating materials. In the context of the present invention, equivalent to the permittivity number ε, the so-called electrical susceptibility χ = ε-1. In the context of the present invention, there is no conceptual distinction between the susceptibility and the permittivity.
