Precise distance and speed measurements are of great importance in process monitoring as well as in production metrology. For distance measurement on moving technical surfaces tactile methods are still often used in which the surface shape on the mechanical deflection of a probe is determined, which is lightly pressed onto the surface during the movement of the test object. However, tactile methods generally have the disadvantage that delicate surfaces can be damaged by the touch of the probe. In addition, only relatively low object speeds are possible.
For this reason, optical measuring methods are increasingly being used in process monitoring and in production metrology. These are non-contact and are generally characterized by their high data rate.
Stand der TechnikState of the art
This is due to the fact that in these sensors, the distance measurement is converted into a location measurement on the surface of a photodetector. In triangulation, there is also the problem of shading, as for a high spatial resolution in the range of one micrometer, a large triangulation angle of about 40 ° is necessary [2, 5].
These problems can be avoided with run-time or two-wavelength interferometry. However, these methods have other disadvantages. In the case of a transit time method, a measurement with a time resolution of approximately 10 -14 seconds would be necessary (femtosecond laser technique) to achieve 1 μm spatial resolution [6]. This is technically complex and has low data rates. Two-wavelength interferometry has a limited range of uniqueness. Moreover, classical interferometry is problematic especially on rough surfaces, since statistical phase fluctuations occur due to the speckle effect.
Another technique is white-light interferometry (coherence radar), which is a kind of combination of conventional interferometry and time-of-flight measurement [6,7]. In this method, the measurement uncertainty is independent of the observation aperture and is approximately in the order of magnitude of the roughness of the surface [1, 6]. Also shading effects, as they occur in triangulation, can be minimized. Since in this measurement method but a mechanical movement z. B. a reference mirror is necessary, the achievable measurement rate is relatively low, which in turn makes it difficult in-process measurements, especially at high object speeds.
In terms of speed measurement, laser Doppler velocimetry (LDV) has been used in industrial applications for many years as a precise and robust measuring method. For example, the length of different, relatively long materials such. As cables, pipes, films, roofing felt, hot steel, plastic profiles, u. v. m. be determined by a continuous measurement of the feed rate of the material to be measured [8]. In the past, tactile, rolling-off methods were used in which the length was determined by rolling the material to be measured via a measuring wheel of known size. However, many types of measurement errors occurred, such. B. by extension of the material to be measured due to the pressing force of the measuring wheel or slip error due to insufficient frictional engagement between the measuring wheel and the material to be measured, which can be avoided in non-contact optical measurement (see the established length measurement, based on the integration of the speed of roofing felt with LDV sensors of the company Jenoptik). Therefore, with a laser Doppler velocimeter, a much higher measuring accuracy can be achieved even at high speeds.
All the above-mentioned optical sensors have in common that with a sensor in each case only a single parameter, eg. As location or speed, can be measured. However, the form of To determine rotating workpieces or components, both the distance (location) and the (angular) speed at the surface of the measurement object must be determined (see below). This is not possible with a single sensor so far.
Aufgabenstellung und LösungsprinzipTask and solution principle
It is an object of the invention to allow the determination of distance and speed with a single sensor.
The principle of the novel profile sensor is based on the method of laser Doppler velocimetry (LDV), in which an interference fringe system is generated at the intersection of two coherent laser beams, which represents the measurement volume. Now traverses a scattering object with the velocity U, the measurement volume perpendicular with respect to the interference fringes, the scattered light is modulated with a Doppler frequency f, which is proportional to the object speed. With the aid of the strip spacing d, the velocity of the scattering object can thus be calculated from the measured Doppler frequency of the scattered light according to the relationship: U = f · d. However, this initially gives a velocity distribution over the entire measurement volume.
Das Prinzip des neuartigen Laser-Doppler-Profilsensors basiert nun auf der Erzeugung zweier Interferenzstreifensysteme mit unterschiedlichem Gradienten des Streifenabstandes ∂di(z)/∂z, i = 1,2, innerhalb desselben Messvolumens [9, 10].The principle of the novel laser Doppler profile sensor is now based on the generation of two interference fringe systems with different gradients of the fringe spacing ∂d i (z) / ∂z, i = 1.2, within the same measuring volume [9, 10].
By using two different laser wavelengths (wavelength multiplexing) or frequencies (frequency multiplexing) or laser polarizations or laser pulse combs a separate signal evaluation for the two channels is ensured.
As an alternative to the described wavelength division multiplexing, a laser beam can also be split into 4 sub-beams with the aid of beam splitters and acousto-optic modulators (AOM) such that an electrical separation of the two channels is possible by mixing and filtering the detected scattered light signal due to the different difference frequencies between each two sub-beams is (frequency multiplexing).
The signal processing of the electrical output signals of the photodetectors is z. B. in the frequency domain, z. B. by the two continuous scattered light signals using a short-term FFT (sliding FFT, S-FFT) are transformed into time-dependent spectra. After removal of the DC pedestals with a high pass, the two Doppler frequencies f 1 and f 2 are determined by applying Gaussian functions to the spectra. Thus, the two Doppler frequencies f 1 and f 2 can be determined separately for the two channels.
Die momentane Position z des Streuteilchens innerhalb des Messvolumens erhält man aus dem Quotienten der beiden Dopplerfrequenzen: The instantaneous position z of the scattering particle within the measuring volume is obtained from the quotient of the two Doppler frequencies:
Thus, with this sensor, the time course of the position z (t) and the speed U (t) z. B. a rotating object to be measured simultaneously and with a single measurement.
This equation is valid under the assumption that the rotational frequency f R and the object radius R are uncorrelated. With the mean value <U> of the measured tangential velocity U (t), the mean object radius <R> can thus be calculated as
The instantaneous angular velocity ω (t) of the measurement object thus results where dr (t) = z (t) - <z> corresponds to the measured position minus its mean value. The current rotation angle φ (t) can be determined by temporal integration of the angular velocity according to determine. Thus, finally, the shape of the measurement object can be described by the following relationship:
A generalized representation is made possible with known methods of differential geometry.
Vorteile des neuen Messverfahrens:Advantages of the new measuring method:
With the laser Doppler profile sensor presented in this invention, it is possible for the first time to measure absolutely absolutely and in real time both distance and speed and thus the shape of rotating workpieces or components with a single sensor. The measurement process is also characterized by its fast, precise and non-contact operation and its reliable use even at high object speeds. Thus, form deviations or wear on rotating workpieces or components in the process can be determined. This sensor opens up new perspectives in process monitoring and in production metrology.
With regard to location measurement, the laser Doppler profile sensor combines the advantages of various conventional optical distance sensors. In contrast to methods such as focus-sensing, shearing interferometry or triangulation, the measuring accuracy of this sensor is influenced in a reduced manner by coherent noise (speckle noise) [4]. This results from the fact that in the laser Doppler profile sensor, the distance measurement is not transferred to a position measurement on the surface of a photodetector, but that is integrated at any time over the entire detector surface and thus over all detected speckles. As with the methods of multi-wavelength interferometry, the measurement uncertainty on rough surfaces could thus be as small as the roughness of the surface, regardless of the observation aperture. In addition, illumination and observation can be coaxial, since the direction of the scattered light detection in differential LDV systems in principle does not matter. Thus ablation effects, such as occur in triangulation, can be reduced. Further, because the novel laser Doppler profile sensor does not include any mechanical moving parts and because of the high bandwidth of the photodetectors used, in contrast to multi-wavelength interferometry, real-time measurements are possible even at very high object speeds.
