Abstract
Description
Oligomeric silasesquioxanes can be used for the synthesis and modification of polymers can be used in a wide range of applications. The resulting polymers can for example in coatings and adhesives, in molded parts made of plastic, in fibers or Find packaging materials. Because the silasesquioxanes with regard to their structure can be manufactured in a wide range of variations Properties of those which can be produced from or modified with silasesquioxanes Polymers can be influenced over a wide range. Numerous thermal and mechanical Properties of polymers can be achieved through copolymerization, grafting, grafting or improve blending of silasesquioxanes, z. B. here the different moduli, the temperature stability, the adhesive properties to a variety of Materials to name the oxidation stability and the scratch and tear resistance.
Eur. J. 2000, 6, 25-32). Recently, metal-containing silasesquioxanes are also gaining in their potential Use as catalysts is becoming increasingly important (Chem. Eur. J. 2000, 6, 25-32).
hydrolisierbare Gruppe wie z. B. Cl, Alkoxid oder Siloxid darstellt (Top. Curr. Chem. 1982;
As Voronkov and Lavrent'yev describe, the synthesis of fully condensed oligomeric silasesquioxanes is usually carried out by hydrolytic condensation of trifunctional RSiY 3 precursors, where R is a hydrocarbon radical and Y is a hydrolyzable group such as e.g. B. Cl, alkoxide or siloxide (Top. Curr. Chem. 1982; 102, 199-236). The reaction rate, degree of oligomerization and yield therefore depend on the concentration of RSiY 3 monomer, the solvent, the substituents R and Y, the temperature, the amount of H 2 O added and the catalyst. The use of acidic and basic catalysts is described for hydrolytic condensation. In addition to KOH, Me 4 NOH, Et 4 NOH and trimethylbenzylammonium hydroxide are also used as bases. In general, however, very long reaction times and only extremely unsatisfactory yields are observed. Nevertheless, various fully condensed silasesquioxanes of the formula R 8 Si 8 O 12 and structure 1
with R = C 5 H 11 , C 6 H 11 , C 6 H 5 , etc. produced according to this methodology. However, the base-catalyzed synthesis of the compound (isobutyl) 8 Si 8 O 12 is not described.
Lichtenhan et al. also describe the base-catalyzed preparation of oligomeric silasesquioxanes (WO 01/10871). The synthesis of the compound (isobutyl) 8 Si 8 O 12 starting from (isobutyl) SiCl 3 is also described. However, this requires not only the use of toxic dichloromethane as a solvent in which the monomer is refluxed, but also the isolation of the polysilasesquioxane [(isobutyl) SiO 1.5 ] ∞ as an intermediate. Another disadvantage is the formation of HCl as a by-product of the hydrolytic condensation. The subsequent base-catalyzed conversion of the polysilasesquioxane resin, carried out in a separate reaction step, using benzyltrimethylammonium hydroxide then gives [(isobutyl) 8 Si 8 O 12 ] in a moderate yield of 30%. The yield can only be increased to 60% by repeating the laborious reaction procedure three times.
unsubstituierter Alkyl-, Cycloalkyl-, Alkenyl-, Cycloalkenyl-, Alkinyl-, Cycloalkinyl-, Aryl-,
The object of the invention was therefore to provide an efficient process for the preparation of completely condensed oligomeric silasesquioxanes of the formula R 1 a R 2 b R 3 c R 4 d R 5 e R 6 f R 7 g R 8 h Si 8 O 12 (R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 4 , R 5 , R 6 , R 7 , R 8 = substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkynyl, aryl, heteroaryl or hydrogen; a + b + c + d + e + f + g + h = 8) and structure 1
to provide with which it is possible to prepare silasesquioxanes of the formula R 1 a R 2 b R 3 c R 4 d R 5 e R 6 f R 7 g R 8 h Si 8 O 12 and structure 1 in short reaction times and high yields, if possible, to produce more than 90% directly, without having to go through the synthesis of the polymeric silasesquioxanes.
Surprisingly, it was found that oligomeric silasesquioxanes of the formula R 1 a R 2 b R 3 c R 4 d R 5 e R 6 f R 7 g R 8 h Si 8 O 12 with R 1 R 2 R 3 are completely condensed with the procedure according to the invention R 4 R 5 R 6 R7, R 8 easier or differently substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkynyl, aryl, heteroaryl or hydrogen and a + b + c + d + e + f + g + h = 8 and structure 1 after short reaction times and in exceptionally high yield. A detour via the isolation of polysilasesquioxanes as reaction intermediates is not necessary according to the process of the invention, rather the monomeric compounds of the RSiX 3 type can be used directly as starting compounds, where R = substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, Alkynyl, cycloalkynyl, aryl, heteroaryl or hydrogen and X is a group capable of hydrolysis and / or condensation. The use of chlorinated solvents is also not necessary.
Alkyl-, Cycloalkyl-, Alkenyl-, Cycloalkenyl-, Alkinyl-, Cycloalkinyl-, Aryl-, Heteroarylreste

The present invention therefore relates to a process for the preparation of oligomeric, completely condensed silasesquioxanes of the formula R 1 a R 2 b R 3 c R 4 d R 5 e R 6 f R 7 g R 8 h Si 8 O 12 and structure 1
with R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 4 , R 5 , R 6 , R 7 , R 8 = identical or different, substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkynyl, Aryl, heteroaryl radicals or hydrogen and a + b + c + d + e + f + g + h = 8, which is characterized in that monomeric compounds of the type RSiX 3 as starting materials directly under base catalysis to oligomeric silasesquioxanes of the formula R 1 a R 2 b R 3 c R 4 d R 5 e R 6 f R 7 g R 8 h Si 8 O 12 are reacted, where R is a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkynyl - Aryl or heteroaryl or hydrogen and X can be a group capable of hydrolysis and / or condensation and the molar ratio of the sum of all educts of the type RSiX 3 to the base at the start of the reaction is from 500: 1 to 3: 1 ,
The present invention also relates to oligomeric silasesquioxanes according to a method according to at least one of claims 1 to 24 and the use these silasesquioxanes for the synthesis of incompletely condensed silasesquioxanes, of functionalized silasesquioxanes, of catalysts and their starting compounds and for the synthesis or modification of polymers.
The advantage of the present invention is that silasesquioxanes of the formula R 1 a R 2 b R 3 c R 4 d R 5 e R 6 f R 7 g R 8 h Si 8 O 12 and structure 1, which are not only used directly Applications for the synthesis and modification of polymers, but also serve as important starting materials for further derivatizations to functionalized, incompletely condensed silasesquioxanes and various secondary products thereof, which in turn serve as starting materials for catalysts and for the synthesis and modification of polymers, using a simple process in high yield can be made available. To date, compounds of structure 1 have only been accessible in poor yields after long reaction times, the synthesis sometimes requiring the detour via polysilasesquioxanes as isolated intermediates.
In particular, the provision of a particularly effective process for the preparation of [(isobutyl) 8 Si 8 O 12 ] is advantageous since the monomer precursor (isobutyl) SiX 3 (X = OMe, OEt, Cl) used as starting material is inexpensively available on an industrial scale is. In addition, compounds of the formula R 8 Si 8 O 12 are also of central importance in silasesquioxane chemistry because they are base-catalyzed to functionalized, incompletely condensed silasesquioxanes such as, for. B. R 7 Si 7 O 9 (OH) 3 2 or also R 8 Si 8 O 11 (OH) 2 3 and R 8 Si 8 O 10 (OH) 4 4 can be implemented (Chem. Commun. 1999, 2309- 10; Polym. Mater. Sci. Eng. 2000, 82, 301-2; WO 01/10871) and thus can serve as the parent compound for a large number of different incompletely condensed and functionalized silasesquioxanes, which in turn are used for catalysts and their starting compounds and for the Synthesis or modification of polymers can be used.

Alkyl-, Cycloalkyl-, Alkenyl-, Cycloalkenyl-, Alkinyl-, Cycloalkinyl-, Aryl-, Heteroarylreste

The method according to the invention is described below by way of example, without any intention that the method should be restricted to this. The process according to the invention for the production of oligomeric, completely condensed silasesquioxanes of the formula R 1 a R 2 b R 3 c R 4 d R 5 e R 6 f R 7 g R 8 h Si 8 O 12 and structure 1
with R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 4 , R 5 , R 6 , R 7 , R 8 = identical or different, substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkynyl, Aryl, heteroaryl radicals or hydrogen and a + b + c + d + e + f + g + h = 8 are characterized in that monomeric compounds of the RSiX 3 type are used as starting materials directly under base catalysis to give oligomeric silasesquioxanes of the formula R 1 a R 2 b R 3 c R 4 d R 5 e R 6 f R 7 g R 8 h Si 8 O 12 are reacted, where R is a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkynyl - Aryl or heteroaryl or hydrogen and X can be a group capable of hydrolysis and / or condensation and the molar ratio of the sum of all educts of the type RSiX 3 to the base at the start of the reaction is from 500: 1 to 3: 1 , When using smaller proportions, the yield of fully condensed silasesquioxanes is reduced, while the yield of incompletely condensed silasesquioxanes increases.
The reaction is preferably carried out by adding the components to a reaction vessel. After adding the components but also while adding the components care should be taken to ensure that the components in the reaction mixture be mixed thoroughly. This can be done in a manner known to those skilled in the art, z. B. by stirring or by generating turbulent flows.
Preferred educts are monomeric compounds of the type RSiX 3 with X = OH, ONa, OK, OR ', OCOR', OSiR ' 3 , Cl, Br, I or NR' 2 , particularly preferably with X = OH, OR ', OCOR 'or Cl, where R' is an organic radical. Monomeric compounds of the type RSiX 3 with X = OR ', where R' is an organic radical, are very particularly preferably used as starting materials.
The use of bases as catalysts is necessary to control or accelerate the reaction. Compounds or ions selected from OH - , R'O - , R'COO - , R'NH - , R'CONR ' - , R' - CO 3 2- , PO 4 3- , SO 4 are preferred as basic catalysts 2- , NO 3 - , F - , NR ' 3 , R' 3 NO, where R 'represents an organic radical. At least one compound selected from KOH, NaOH, (C 2 H 5 ) 4 NOH, C 6 H 5 CH 2 (CH 3 ) 3 NOH, (CH 3 ) 4 NOH and (C 2 H 5 ) is particularly preferred as the basic catalyst ) 3 N inserted. The use of alkali metal hydroxides such as KOH is very particularly preferred. The list of these examples does not limit the invention in any way since any basic catalyst can be used.
The base-catalyzed reaction takes place in solution. A polar Solvent as well as a non-polar solvent can be used. As a solvent preferably halogen-free solvents selected from the group of alcohols, ketones, Aldehydes, ethers, acids, esters, anhydrides, alkanes, aromatics and nitriles or mixtures used this solvent. Alcohols, ethers, acetone, Acetonitrile, benzene or toluene are used as solvents. Is very particularly preferred Acetone, methanol or ethanol or a mixture of two or more of these Compounds used as solvents.
The concentration of the sum of all starting materials RSiX 3 in the reaction solution in the process according to the invention is preferably from 0.01 mol / l to 10 mol / l, preferably from 0.1 mol / l to 2 mol / l, particularly preferably from 0.2 up to 1 mol / l and very particularly preferably from 0.3 to 0.8 mol / l. A monomer concentration of 0.5 mol / l is very particularly preferred.
The decisive factor for the success of the process is the molar ratio of the sum of all starting materials RSiX 3 used to the base used. In the process according to the invention, this is from 500: 1 to 3: 1, preferably from 100: 1 to 5: 1, particularly preferably from 50: 1 to 10: 1. A molar ratio of 25: 1 is very particularly preferred. The use of higher Amounts of base do not lead to the fully condensed oligomeric silasesquioxanes of the formula R 1 a R 2 b R 3 c R 4 d R 5 e R 6 f R 7 g R 8 h Si 8 O 12 but to the formation of incompletely condensed oligomeric silasesquioxanes, such as this z. B. in WO 01/10871, page 26, lines 13 to 21 is described.
It may be advantageous to add water to the reaction mixture. In some cases, however, the traces of water in the solvent are sufficient or the reaction takes place without the presence of water at the start of the reaction. For the preparation of the completely condensed oligomeric silasesquioxanes of the formula R 1 a R 2 b R 3 c R 4 d R 5 e R 6 f R 7 g R 8 h Si 8 O 12 by the process according to the invention, a molar ratio of water to the sum of Educts RSiX 3 used from 1000: 1 to 0.1: 1, preferably from 100: 1 to 0.5: 1, particularly preferably from 50: 1 to 1: 1. A molar ratio of 10: 1 to 2: 1 is very particularly preferably selected.
The process according to the invention can be preferred at a temperature of -50 to 300 ° C. at a temperature of 0 to 200 ° C, particularly preferably at a temperature of 20 to 100 ° C are carried out. The reaction is very particularly preferred in one Carried out temperature which is below the boiling point of the reaction solution. The Changing the temperature during the reaction is conceivable. Lowering the temperature towards the end of the reaction in order to isolate the product as completely as possible be beneficial.
The process can be carried out continuously or in batch mode.
After the base-catalyzed reaction has ended, the target product R 1 a R 2 b R 3 c R 4 d R 5 e R 6 f R 7 g R 8 h Si 8 O 12 can be separated off from the reaction mixture in a manner known to the person skilled in the art , Preferably, the target product precipitates out of the reaction solution, the precipitation by suitable measures, such as. Die folgenden Beispiele sollen die Erfindung näher erläutern, ohne ihren Schutzumfang einzuschränken: The following examples are intended to explain the invention in greater detail, without its scope limit:
A solution of 6.4 g (0.11 mol) of KOH in 200 ml of H 2 O is added to a solution of 446 g (2.5 mol) of isobutyltrimethoxysilane (isobutyl) Si (OMe) 3 in 4300 ml of acetone with stirring. The reaction mixture is then stirred at 30 ° C. for 3 days: the precipitate formed is filtered off and dried at 70 ° C. in vacuo. The product (isobutyl) 8 Si 8 O 12 is obtained in a yield of 262 g (96%).
Reaktionsparameter: [Si] = 0.50 M, [OH-] = 0.02 M, [H2O] = 2.2 M.
Optionally, 10 g (isobutyl) 8 Si 8 O 12 can be added at the beginning of the reaction for better precipitation of the product.
Reaction parameters: [Si] = 0.50 M, [OH - ] = 0.02 M, [H 2 O] = 2.2 M.
Die Gesamtausbeute nach drei basenkatalysierten Umsetzungen ist typischerweise höher als 60%. 8.3 ml (0.05 mol) (isobutyl) SiCl 3 are added to a mixture of 200 ml CH 2 Cl 2 and 5 ml water with vigorous stirring. The mixture is then refluxed overnight. After the reaction mixture has cooled, the CH 2 Cl 2 phase is decanted off and dried over 5 g of CaCl 2 . After evaporation of the solvent, polymeric [(isobutyl) SiO 1.5 ] ∞ resin is obtained in quantitative yield. The 29 Si { 1 H} NMR spectrum of the resin shows a broad resonance characteristic of silasesquioxane resins and no sharp resonance assigned to the discrete polyhedral silasesquioxanes [(isobutyl) SiO 1.5 ] n with n = 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 can be. The base-catalyzed reaction of the polymeric [(isobutyl) SiO 1.5 ] ∞ resin was achieved by heating in 25 ml of methyl isobutyl ketone under reflux for 48 hours, with enough C 6 H 5 CH 2 N (CH 3 ) 3 OH being added to give a strongly basic Generate solution (about 2 ml of a 40% solution in methanol). After evaporation of the solvent (25 ° C, 0.01 Torr) a resin-like solid was obtained, which was mixed with 15 ml of acetone. After filtering, 1.64 g (30% yield) [(isobutyl) SiO 1.5 ] 8 are obtained as a white, microcrystalline solid. Evaporation of the acetone solution leads to further polymeric [(isobutyl) SiO 1.5 ] ∞ resin, which after base-catalyzed reaction gives further [(isobutyl) SiO 1.5 ] 8 . The overall yield after three base-catalyzed reactions is typically higher than 60%.
