From Olofsson, H .; Almgren, M .; Hook, M .: Transmitter diversity with antenna hopping for wireless communication systems, Vehicular Technology Conference, 1997, IEEE 47th, p. 1743-1747, vol. 3.4; 4-seventh May 1997 antenna hopping in wireless communication systems is known. In this case, both reception antenna diversity and transmission antenna diversity can be used. Two or more antennas are in different positions or have different polarization. In a TDMA system, each frame is channel encoded and overlapping to carry discrete information packets in certain time slots. It is a transmit antenna diversity method used in which each antenna transmits the same radio signal, but delayed by z. B. a few microseconds. The time offset is necessary so that the radio signals do not cancel each other out by destructive interference at the receiver site. A receiver can recapture these time-shifted signals by means of an equalizer.

This wireless system eliminates the relatively high cost of wire / cable connections associated with planning, materials, installation, documentation, and maintenance compared to conventional wire / cable electrical power and communication solutions. There can be no failure due to cable breaks or bad, such as corroded contacts.

For the radio transmission preferably the TDMA technology (Time Division Multiple Access) is used, in which the information or signals from / to the actuators or sensors (node) are transmitted in the form of cyclic TDMA frames, each sensor / actuator a certain time slot is allocated within a frame. Due to different distances of the sensors or actuators from the base station and different position relative to the base station is in principle the danger Signal fading (channel fading) significantly reduces the signal transmission performance of the system both at the base station site and at the individual node site.
The invention has for its object to provide a method for operating a system with multiple nodes and a base station according to TDMA of the type mentioned, which improves the performance of the signal transmission.
This object is achieved in conjunction with the features of the preamble according to the invention by the features specified in the characterizing part of claim 1.
The advantages attainable with the invention are in particular that the proposed antenna diversity in a wireless communication system with bidirectional real-time communication between a base station and a plurality of nodes, the performance of the signal transmission of the system is improved by a suitable to be sent to the TDMA frames aligned antenna switching takes place on the part of the transmitter of the base station. Furthermore, there is a fixed predetermined and non-adaptive, adapted to the received TDMA frames transmitting antenna switching on the part of the receiver of the base station. This advantageously counteracts signal fading (channel fading). The same antennas can be used for both the transmitting side and the receiver side antenna switching in different time periods, depending on the sequences.
Further advantages will be apparent from the following description.
Advantageous embodiments of the invention are characterized in the subclaims.
Es zeigen:The invention will be explained below with reference to the embodiments illustrated in the drawings. Show it:

The sensors and / or actuators S.1... Sn each have a communication device which contains the required radio transmitter and / or radio receiver, in order thus to provide wireless communication between the base station BS and the sensors / actuators S.1 to enable. In a sensor, the processed sensor signal passes to a modulator / encoder with a downstream radio transmitter and antenna, where it is sent to the base station BS. In an actuator, the control signal sent by the base station BS passes through an antenna, a radio receiver and a demodulator / decoder to the drive unit.
The base station BS is expediently connected to a central computer (process computer, programmable logic controller) and has a communication device which receives sensor signals of the sensors and message signals relating to the current state of actuators (uplink, "upwards", from the sensors / actuators to the base station) , Outputs control signals for activating / deactivating the actuators and outputs signals for setting specific parameters of the actuators and sensors (downlink, "in the downward direction", from the base station to the sensors / actuators). The communication device of the base station BS has a plurality of antennas, to which a radio receiver and a radio transmitter are connected.
The signals of the radio receiver are fed to a demodulator / decoder and the radio transmitter is preceded by a modulator / encoder.
The digital communication technology used is based on TDMA. In order to differentiate the uplink signals and downlink signals, FDD (Frequency Division Duplexing) is used. While the downlink signals are being transmitted continuously by the base station, the nodes only send uplink signals to the base station when certain defined events occur, for example when a proximity switch detects the approach of an object.

According to a preferred embodiment, the uplink signal is received by the same N antennas A.1 ... AN, which also serve to transmit the downlink signal, but antenna switching takes place between the individual TDMA frames according to a downlink channel different and not overlapping sequence. This preferred embodiment allows separation of "transmitter antennas" and "receiver antennas" and does not require adaptive antenna diversity at the base station BS. On the one hand, this considerably facilitates the implementation, on the other hand it reliably ensures that the logical uplink channel is not significantly degraded due to fading between the transmitting antenna of a node and one of the receiving antennas of the base station.
With the aid of the method according to the invention, a high reliability in terms of message transmission is achieved by selecting the duration T FR of a TDMA frame taking into account the number N of antennas such that the product N · T FR is smaller than the highest permissible transmission delay with respect to the signal transmission between node and base station, wherein a suitable repetition of the messages to be transmitted takes place.
In the case of unsatisfactory signal transmission, the proposed method for antenna switching is advantageously suitable for a combination with automatic request for repeat (ARQ) methods in which, if necessary, d. H. in case of unsatisfactory signal transmission, individual TDMA frames repeated and thus transmitted several times. What is essential here is that the repeat request sent by the node is received by an antenna of the base station which was not involved in the previously defective signal transmission. Furthermore, it is essential that the antenna of the base station repeatedly transmitting the TDMA frame is not the antenna which has been involved in the previously defective signal transmission.
