Abstract

Method for optical stimulation of the visual system for examination of the perimeter. For optical stimulation stepped light intensities are used, temporal variation of the spatial pattern used as a light stimulus is set in response to the visual system's response to the stimuli, i.e. a feedback mechanism, and signal processing methods are used to test and analyze the response to the stimuli. An Independent claim is made for a method for automatic functional control of the visual system.

Description

The invention relates to a method for optical Stimulation of the visual system with different Light intensities according to the requirements of static perimetry and adequate for objective evaluation stimulus-related electro- and / or magnetophysiological Sizes.

In the prior art, stimulation systems are objective Perimetry known, the binary controlled light stimulators use. For example, in perimetry briefly monofocal lighting marks defined Intensity used to ensure the functionality of the visual Check system.

In newer systems, multifocal (simultaneously on several Places) optical stimuli used, the chronological sequence in the rule of pseudo-random binary sequences - general as m-sequences, MLS (Maximum Length Sequence) or PRBS (Pseudo Random Binary Sequence) known - is controlled.

A disadvantage of the previous methods is that the - whether mono- or multifocal - generated optical stimuli during an examination a constant intensity level exhibit.

With such a stimulation mode there are only absolute scotomas (local total loss of visual function) and a low proportion of strong relative scotomas (local Partial failure of the visual function, lowered Sensitivity) can be reliably diagnosed.

For an objective answer to the question of perception of a light stimulus at a certain retinal location EEG of the examined analyzed and according to objective criteria the presence of a stimulus response is detected. With that lies an objective topological examination result for visual function - but only for one Intensity level of the light stimuli.

With the much more common relative scotomas it is necessary to use multiple logarithmically graded light levels locally occurring sensitivity losses topographically capture, as is common in static perimetry.

Using the previous stimulation methods the objectification of static perimetry unacceptable extension of the examination time to have.

The object of the invention is therefore a method specify with which it is possible in sensory physiological adequately one with respect to the passage of time and the used intensity level in the sense of signal theory to generate an optimized optical stimulus and based on a or several electro- and / or magnetophysiological variables the perceptual function regarding sensitivity to check topographically.

Erfindungsgemäß gelingt die Lösung dieser Aufgabe mit den kennzeichnenden Merkmalen des Patentanspruches 1.According to the invention this problem is solved with the characterizing features of claim 1.

Advantageous embodiments of the method according to the invention are specified in the subclaims.

It is advantageous in the method according to the invention that with him the sensitivity profile of the visual field - as in static perimetry - can be created. This was not the case with the previous methods. So that will for the first time a direct comparison of subjective and objective perimetric test results possible. Since the new procedure runs completely automatically, the Patient burden particularly low. An essential one Characteristic is still a significantly higher one functional diagnostic reliability resulting from the Elimination of patient and patient errors examining doctor results.

Die dazugehörige Zeichnung zeigt:The invention is described below with the aid of a drawing explained in more detail. The accompanying drawing shows:

Fig. 1 ein Blockschaltbild des Messplatzes zur Ermittlung des Empfindlichkeitsprofils des visuellen Systems Fig. 1 is a block diagram of the measuring station for determining the sensitivity profile of the visual system

The patient sits in front of a spherical projection surface - the perimeter 1 - in which light stimuli of adequate intensity are generated at defined points either by means of active light sources (LED - light-emitting diodes) or with a projection system with a calibrated light source. These light stimuli are controlled by a control computer 2 in such a way that the temporal intensity profile of the emitted light corresponds in its statistical moments to the predefined correlation function in accordance with the requirements of signal theory. The light intensity and the temporal course of the light stimuli produced by the light sources can be set to a sufficient width over the physiologically interesting range.

Such an optical stimulus causes changes - also called stimulus responses - in the EEG / MEG. These answers are recorded, amplified and digitized using suitable technology 3 , an ERG / EEG measurement system and an AD converter. The digitized stimulus responses are processed and evaluated in the control computer 2 .
