Abstract
Description
The maintenance and administration of IT infrastructures is becoming more and more expensive. A number of methods have therefore been developed in recent years to do this Reduce costs. The largest cost block within IT administration are Personnel costs. The companies therefore strive to maintain maintenance personnel wherever possible centralize to save costs. This centralization goes with the effort of tools for remote administration and remote maintenance of computers. In addition to the possibility of performing maintenance work on running systems such as uploading To be able to carry out new software or new drivers remotely, that must be Maintenance personnel will be able to recover from serious system failures Detect remotely and restart a computer remotely.
An important function for restarting a system is the "wake on lan" functionality (patent US 6049885), which is implemented in FIG. 1 in the communication subsystem ( 1 ) of a computer system ( 2 ) to be administered remotely. The communication subsystem, typically a plug-in card for the peripheral bus of the computer, receives a minimal power supply via a special connector ( 3 ), which makes it possible to react to special events on the communication interface ( 4 ). Wake on LAN defines a data packet with a specific format that is recognized as such an event by a communication subsystem equipped with Wake on LAN. In response, a special signal is also applied to the connector ( 3 ), which controls the power supply of the computer system ( 2 ) in such a way that the computer is put from the sleep state into the operating mode. With a special data packet, sent via a communication network ( 5 ) to the communication subsystem (network adapter) ( 1 ) of the computer system to be administered ( 2 ), a computer can be switched on remotely. Wake on LAN is supported by almost all modern communication subsystems for PCs. For cost reasons, the Wake on LAN functionality is integrated in a VLSI chip together with the other necessary components of a network adapter. An example of such a VLSI chip is RTL 8139B from Realtec Inc. Taiwan.
Mögliche Lösungen zeigen Patent US 5410706 oder US 6065053.The invention described below defines a method by means of which a hard reset is performed on the computer to be administered. The running A hard reset is always necessary if the software of the administrative computer is supported so far that access via Software tools for remote administration and remote access are no longer possible, the computer is still switched on. A calculator that resides in one State, can only remotely with the current state of the art can be restarted at a comparatively high cost. Possible solutions show patent US 5410706 or US 6065053.
The invention uses the Wake on LAN functionality to get out with minimal costs perform a remote reset on the computer to be administered.
Fig. 2 zeigt die notwendige Anordnung. Fig. 2 shows the necessary arrangement. The sensor ( 20 ) determines whether the computer to be administered is switched on or off. The VSLI chip ( 10 ) for communication typical of Wake on LAN delivers a control pulse via the control signal ( 19 ) when a Wake on LAN packet is received. This control pulse, which in the current state of the art is fed directly to the Wake on LAN connector ( 15 ), is connected to a control component ( 11 ). Based on the sensor information on the control line ( 13 ), this control component decides whether the computer to be administered is switched on or off. If the computer is switched off, a start pulse ( 14 ) is initiated at the connector ( 15 ) as before. If the computer is switched on, a reset pulse ( 17 ) is generated as a function of internal control information and further external control signals ( 12 , 13 ), which is forwarded to the computer via the connector ( 16 ).
An external control signal is a switch ( 18 ) with which the reset functionality can be completely prevented for safety reasons. Furthermore, a control line bundle ( 12 ) makes it possible to access internal control states of the control component ( 11 ) from the computer to be administered and to take suitable measures to protect against misuse.
The device for remotely triggering a hard reset on a PC is based on the VLSI chip RTL 8139B from Realtec Inc. Taiwan. The control component ( 13 ) is implemented by a programmable logic circuit (e.g. iSP LSI 2036). The logic circuit consists of the registers (R1) and (R2), the counters ( 21 ) and ( 22 ), as well as the control inputs (E1), (E2), (E3) and the control outputs (A1) and (A2). There is also a clock signal (TT). (DR1) and (DR2) are introduced as intermediate control values.
Ist E1 inaktiv, wird bei Eintreffen des Signals E2 der Ausgang (A1) aktiviert (Wake on LAN Signal zum Netzteil des Rechners).(DR1) is always active when control input (E1) (from the sensor that detects the status of the computer) and (E2) (Wake on signal of the VLSI chip) are active. Is E1 Inactive, output (A1) is activated when signal E2 arrives (Wake on LAN Signal to the computer's power supply).
The clock signal always counts the counters (Z1) and (Z2) from a preset value to zero and stays at zero. If counter 1 = zero and the signal DR1 becomes active, then the counter is loaded to a preset value, otherwise the signal (DR2) active.
Signal) aktiv. Dieses Resetsignal bewirkt über einen Analog-Schalter (z. B. ADG
712BRU) das Auslösen eines Resetsignals. Ein Resetsignal wird also nur dann
ausgelöst, wenn
The control input (E2) (from the computer) sets the counter (Z2) to a preset value. If the counter Z2 = ZERO and the control signal (E3) (external switch) is active and the signal (DR2) is present, the output (A2) (reset signal) becomes active. This reset signal triggers a reset signal via an analog switch (e.g. ADG 712BRU). A reset signal is only triggered if
- - der externe Schalter den entfernten Reset-Mechanismus aktiviert hat- The external switch has activated the removed reset mechanism
Two Wake on LAN packets in a row within a defined period have been sent to the computer to be administered
No deactivation signal from to for a defined period of time beforehand administrating computer was initiated (timeout).
A software that works on the computer to be administered and the correct status of the computer determined, the reset option is as long periodically deactivate until a serious defect has occurred. The crash of this periodically deactivating software is itself a serious defect in it Sense.
