Abstract

In a process to dispose of slaughterhouse waste material, the body parts are chopped and mixed with a quantity of suitable organic substances, such as sludge or slurry, and brought to an average dry matter content of 8-12 %. The animal residues are first chopped or minced and sterilized at 133 deg C prior to admixture of organic residues. The mixture is placed in a fermentation vat to generate biogas, e.g. methane for use as fuel in a district heating system or for conversion to electrical energy. The heat energy generated is used for sterilization, the heat treatment sterilization of the mixed wastes, composting and drying processes.
