Description
Anwendungsgebiet aer ErfindungField of application of the invention
The invention is advantageously applicable to the periodic operation of discharge lamps, in particular high-pressure discharge lamps, the z. B. in the large-area lighting (halls, roads, etc.) can be used.
The periodic operation of discharge lamps is complicated by the occurrence of arc instabilities. They are expressed in deformations of the bow such as constrictions, undulations and deflections from the middle position, which can cause a very restless operation of the lamp and lead to the destruction of the lamp. Such instabilities are attributed to the formation of standing acoustic waves in the discharge vessel. They occur in low-pressure vapor discharge lamps as well as in high-pressure metal vapor discharge lamps such as high-pressure sodium vapor discharge lamps, mercury vapor discharge lamps and metal halide-type discharge lamps. Solutions are already known which are directed to suppressing these bow instabilities. These all result in a modulation of the inherently sinusoidal operating voltage.
Thus, the solution according to DE-PS 3122183 provides a method for Botrieb a high-pressure discharge lamp together with associated circuitry for the practice of this method, in which the phase of the periodic operating voltage constant sequence is constantly changing leaps and bounds. In extension of this method is provided according to DE-OS 3202499, that the operating voltage is also still wobbled simultaneously in their frequency. It has been found that by the only practically ineffective wobble of the frequency of the Botriebswechselspannung with simultaneous phase changes of the free range of acoustic instabilities frequency range compared to the stability range in the sole permanent phase change not only extended, but also freed from bogeninstabilen intermediate bands. The avoidance of the acoustic resonances is linked in these known solutions with the fact that the spectral decomposition of the operating voltage in addition to the fundamental frequency still has a broad band of higher frequencies. Arc instabilities require a certain threshold value (response time) for excitation. The additional vibrations disturb the adjustment of the acoustic resonance and thus prevent the occurrence of the bow instabilities. This view of the effect is also confirmed by various other publications (R. Schäfer, H. P. Stormberg, J. Appl. Phys. 53 [1982] 3476 and H. P. Stormberg, R. Schaefer, Lighting Research & Technology 15 [1983] 127). The same idea is based on the solution given in DE-PS 3111561. It provides for operation of the high-pressure discharge lamp, in which the operating alternating voltage essentially contains only the fundamental frequency and its third harmonic. The addition of a higher frequency prevents the formation of acoustic resonances and thus prevents arc instabilities. In addition, US Pat. No. 3,890,537 discloses avoiding acoustic resonances in pulsed-current mercury vapor discharge lamps by automatically sweeping the chopper frequency. However, as already noted in DE-PS 31 22138, Di-OS 3202499 and DE-PS 3111 561, there are resonant frequencies at which a wobble of Zerhackerfrecuenz fails. Especially with small high-pressure metal vapor discharge lamps, a sole wobble of the operating voltage has proved to be ineffective. Furthermore, according to DE-OS 2335589 known to modulate the high-frequency operating voltage with an additional frequency, this time jsdoch below the fundamental frequency (low-frequency modulation). The author, however, speaks only of a reduction of the resonances and himself admits that even a high degree of frequency modulation is not sufficient to completely suppress resonance effects. The obvious disadvantage of all mentioned solutions is the complicated and complex structure of the necessary electronic ballast technology. The proposed multi-unit circuits are relatively (yours and not suitable for miniaturization.
Narrowing the regions with arc instabilities by an optimal shape of the discharge vessel, the electrode configuration and the filling gas composition is known from the solutions according to US-PS 4170746 and DE-OS 2847840. As a result, in the frequency range from 20 kHz to 50 kHz, instability-free frequency bands of a width of 3 kHz to 5 kHz occur.
The two mentioned writings provide a very instructive study of the different types and the occurrence of bow instabilities 'Jiverse diagrams'), but appear as a solution very unsatisfactory because the bow instabilities are generally not eliminated (see also JM Davenport, RJ Petti, J. IES , April 1985, p. 633 ff.).
Ziel der ErfindungObject of the invention
The aim of the invention is to provide a method and a circuit arrangement for the economical operation of discharge lamps, which enable a stable lamp operation over a longer period of time.

Dieser technische Sachverhalt ist dadurch untersetzt, daß die entsprechenden GleichungenAs shown in FIG. 1, the high-pressure discharge lamp 1 is arranged in a resonant circuit, which consists of a current-limiting series inductor 2 with the inductance D, a further inductor 3 with the inductance L and a capacitor 4 with the capacitance C. The throttle 3 is connected in series «to the high-pressure discharge lamp 1 and the Kondenr ator 4 parallel to both. Parallel to the Kondenstor 4 of ί Chwingkreis is connected via the series reactor 2 with an AC voltage source 5. Thus, the high-pressure discharge lamp 1 is a member of a vibratory system, which differs from ordinary resonant circuits in that a non-linear, differentially negative resistance has been added by the lamp itself, which changes the behavior of this oscillatory system in principle. This technical situation is compounded by the fact that the corresponding equations

In addition, in Figures 3, 5 and 7, the frequency spectrum of the current is shown. Case 1 corresponds to the conventional operating behavior of the lamp: all oscillations occur mainly with the operator frequency (in the exemplary embodiment f = 200 Hz). The frequency spectrum of the current shown in FIG. 3 essentially has only this fundamental frequency. Case 2 and Case 3 demonstrate how the behavior of the lamp current changes significantly if the sizing of the elements is specified differently. In case 2 and in case 3, the vibrations take on a more complex appearance. The fundamental oscillation, which essentially takes place with the externally applied operator frequency f, is modulated by further oscillations. The development of the resulting "comb-shaped" curves over time is illustrated in Figures 4 and 6. The frequency spectrum of the current shows a marked excitation of frequencies above the operating frequency (in the example up to more than 1000 Hz), the intensity of which is in accordance with the intensity of the Stimulator frequency is comparable.
The invention is not bound to the circuit configuration chosen in the embodiment; This represents only one of the possible variants for a simple oscillatory circuit. Without departing from the spirit of the invention, other simple combinations of resistors, coils and capacitors, which form a vibratory circuit, are conceivable. The proposed method is also not bound to the frequency specifically selected in the exemplary embodiment and to the specific lamp parameters. A change in the frequency, the use of another type of lamp, etc. is to be answered by a correspondingly changed dimensioning of the resonant circuit parameters.
